I'm disappointed with this review. Clearly there seems to be some contradictions with the reviewer and a large number of commenters who have invested time into the game, especially pertaining to controls.

In addition, there is no information (or at least very little) in the reviews regarding graphics, sound/music, game presentation, game length or multiplayer/online. I didn't watch the video review, so I don't know if any of this was mentioned in there - but if it was, it should still be mentioned in the written review.

I don't want to sound overly negative, but If this is what Joystiq passes off as reviews, I might just stick to Joystiq for news updates and skip their reviews.

For me, the only appeal of this game is online play. If they had even just re-released Excite Truck with some decent online modes, I would've jumped at it. But the bots and mini-games really turn me off. In Excite Truck, as in Excite Bots, the terrain and tracks looked great- very realistic looking. Having goofy-looking robots throwing pies and flinging themselves off of rubber bands completely flies into the face of the rest of the game in my opinion.

In Excite Truck, I loved the rush of flying thru the air while trying to get the "perfect" run on a track. I think that addition of floating clown faces and bowling pins will be a little too jarring of a change for me.... might have to pass. :(

"But, like everything in this game, the more you partake in these, the easier they are to excel at, and the less fun they become."

Umm... isn't that the case in like every game EVER?

*This just in from Joystiq, you get better at a game the more you play it. News at 11.*

It seems to me that the reviewer missed the point of this game (and its predecessor). These games are not racing games per se. You fly past the other racers (at least in the opening levels, Super Excite makes the 50 point boost from 1st place less than a given) because they are not the opponent, the stage is. You "win" by getting a certain number of points per race, which you have to squeeze from each level doing jumps and tree runs and what not. The same applies for the pretty seamless online which it appears the reviewer missed.
