Well, it's been a long time coming, but Radical Games' open-world action title, Prototype, is almost ready to hit store shelves. While many of us chalked up the title's year-long delay to the grand game of musical chairs that occurred around the time of the Activision Blizzard merger (and the accompanying culling of a number of Sierra titles), we recently heard a different reason for the game's belatedness: It's super freaking big.
In a recent interview with VG247, Prototype executive producer Tim Bennison explained, "the original vision for the game was huge, perhaps a little too huge, so the extra time in development has let us realize that vision." Sure, Activision could have dropped the game in its original launch window last fall, but at what cost? The cancellation of the game's massive go-kart racing minigame? Or worse, the removal of the protagonist's smart-mouthed feline sidekick, Professor Whiskers?

Endgame was total shit. They made Whiskers "darker and edgier" for the X-treme crowd. His redesign was terrible too: what the hell does a cat professor need that many zippers for?

You should see the Wiimagioning of Whiskers. They're just a bunch of lame mini games where you clean his cat box and hock up hairballs.

A one year delay, a two year delay or a three year delay. It doesn't really matter to me. Prototype still looks REALLY generic. LOL. Sorry Radical Games, but you fail in my eyes. I wouldn't waste my money on your shitty looking game.

I just have to say that I am extremely excited about Prototype and that if they can execute on the vision, I feel that it could again revolutionize the gaming industry as we know it, the trouble is that it so hard for game so deliver on that promise. When it comes out, I will definitely be one of the first to review and I hope to have some news regarding both of these games myself very soon.

i think the delay might have helped them flesh out their version of nyc then infect it and change it over time. i'm not sure how soon i want it but i do because of it's to the hulk ultimate destruction game. it seems we'll get alot of games this summer.

I really want this game but I do not know what system I will buy it for. I have both the 360 and the PS3. When I first bought my xbox, I was only going to use it for exclusives and first person shooters. But since I like Live so much (I don't use it enough) I am kinda torn when it comes to games that appear on both systems. I love the ps3's power but I also love the the games that xbox has and the online.
I will say that other than uncharted, I play xbox exclusives alot more than the ps3 exclusives.
Advice?

I’m really glad that a new IP released in the summer has a chance to be a big hit. Maybe next year we can finally get some games that release before October.
