SCEA marketing whiz Peter Dille has pitched the company's new game plan, and Wii's the bait, according to a recent interview with Gamasutra. Opting for more concession speech than victory declaration, Dille offers a "hats off" to Nintendo and its Wii for "doing something that hasn't been done" by expanding and diversifying the demographic of game console owners. Dille proposes that if this new class of gamers gets "hooked," then PS3 is in position to fulfill the next logical acquisition in their newfound "gaming habit."
Dille suggests that the prospect of a "high-definition gaming experience" might drive a Wii family to invest in a PS3 as their living room "centerpiece," but doesn't specifically suggest why Sony's console might be favored over the other high-def game platform currently on the market. Still, Dille clearly understands the strength of the PlayStation brand, established by the ridiculously pervasive PS2 (which is still pervading in certain markets) and, likely, rightfully assumes that a significant chunk of Wii converts were once PS2 owners. Do you see the plan coming together now? "So we think that over time all those folks will migrate back to the PlayStation 3 -- when I say 'back,' that takes the view that they were PS2 gamers, went to the Wii, and then would come back."

One thing though... why are we all caring what system a soccer mum buys?
I don't actually want them on my lead platform, because the extra games they will encourage devalopers to make are not ones I want to play.
More to the point, PS3 has great games. Xbox has great games.
Sometimes the PS3 looks better, sometimes the Xbox looks better.
The PS3 has LBP. The 360 has Fable.
The PS3 has Killzone. The 360 has Fallout DLC.
Obvious answer here folks – get both.

That's why I never understand the whole bickering that's been happening on this site. There are great exclusives on both consoles so why not own both? Why should I be loyal to either Microsoft or Sony exclusively? They haven't done anything for me so who gives a crap?

I can see the reasoning behind this. Back in the day I would say I was a pretty hardcore gamer. I had a NES -> SNES -> Genesis -> TurboGrafx 16 -> N64 I got out of gaming during the PS2 years. I wanted to get back into it again, and the Wii interested me considering it is Nintendo and it was the first system I ever got. Well, I felt the Wii was missing something, I needed better games, so I went for the PS3. I didn't really consider the 360 due to its failure rate and I could see greater potential for the PS3 cuz of the more powerful hardware and blu ray. In the end, I did get a 360 for exclusives, but I still do most of my gaming on the PS3. Soo, I thank the Wii for feeding my need my need for better games, and going to a true next gen console.

Well, in my comparisons I didn't consider it because I was going for similar features, and (as I said with the games-point) you never really know what the situation is with your purchaser, everybody has different tastes and different needs.
In the case of my actual 360, my computer is a story above my entertainment room, not only would running that much cable around be a hazard to my dogs and unsightly, but needlessly complicated. So essentially it was either buy the wireless adapter or be in a state of almost constant worry that my English Bulldog would find it funny to chew through my cables.
The lack of wireless internet in-box was a major, perhaps gigantic, over-sight by MSoft on the 360. This isn't the original Xbox, MSoft had to have seen this coming in the infancy of the 360's development. A fact almost proven by the inclusion of it on both the PS3 and Wii in-box.

My gaming time line:
-NES
-Genesis/Turbo Grafx (still have fond memories of playing the frustratingly difficult Legendary Axe)
-Super Nintendo (after much pleading with my mother to buy this console even though I already had the Genesis...Turbo collecting dust at that point)
-N64 (this is where I officially entered my Nintendo 'fanboy' phase [perhaps it began in the SNES era-ending in the midst of the GC era]...debating with my PS centric brother over his 'wrong' choice in a console-at that point the PS1)
-Gamecube (perhaps my most disappointing console, given my age and stage in life at that point I nearly gave up gaming due to lack of interest)
-Wii/PS3 (I pretty much purchased the Wii because of the virtual console...and lucked out with the PS3, which was the catalyst for my reborn video game hobby, leading me to this...posting on a gamer website)

I got a $399 PS3 & put a $65 500gb Hard drive from Ebay into it :)
I figure every year I don't have to pay to play online I'm getting a little more ahead of Xbox360 ppl.
Bottom line I liked the PS1, & PS2, so I did have brand loyalty. Plus I'm a Microsoft hater. But, that aside I felt the Blu-ray tech & cell chip gave Sony the edge.
PAST: I used Atari2600, (console break)
