We hate to spoil your dependable Sunday evening treat, but we thought the pointy-haired RPG enthusiasts amongst you would want to hear a remarkable Squeenidos statistic -- in its launch week, the Blu-ray version of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete, which contains a demo for Final Fantasy XIII, sold 274,774 units in Japan. We can't wait to see how well Advent Children Totally Completer fares.
The demo-infused movie's strong opening did more than line the pockets of Square Enix -- it also bolstered PS3 sales in Sony's home territory, giving the system a week-over-week increase of around 42,000 units. We know one third-party developer that's back on Sony's Christmas card list.

You would be wrong on that so far, and comments like these have been largely wrong for a long time. They're getting pretty tired, and we'd all be better off if you had just congratulated SE and Sony for their success.

I'd probably want VS more as well if I could only see some gameplay of it. Movies are cool and all, but I'd like to see what I'm gonna be playing not just watching. Give us something to be excited for at E3 VsXIII team! All that leather and hairspray will only get you so far!

You are thinking of the FIRST DAY sales, which were around 174K or something like that. This is the full week's sales.

Been doing it for a while. I thin kit slipped last week though. which does mean the PS had been the best selling console in Japan the last few month's. until the PS3 overtook it. Sony had roughly 2/3r'ds of the sales last week in Japan. pretty impressive feat.

Does this mean a system bundle or just that the movie is bundled with the demo?

So then was this the movie+demo that sold so well, or the movie+demo+system that sold so well? It would be nice if they would shows sales of the movie/demo and the movie/demo/system separately.

Complete is the version on Blu-Ray i believe. there's like 3 of them though as some are more "complete" than others coming with the FFXIII demo and/or a PS3.

AC Complete is actually the director's cut. It's makes a WHOLE LOT more sense than the first iteration, which seemed to give very little information about seemingly important aspects of the movie, like: Who is Denzel, what really is Geostigma, etc. The dialogue/actual spoken words has been reworked a little to make more sense for an English audience as well. It's about 30 minutes longer than the original DVD
I will say that the new scenes that they added look REALLY good. However, a lot of the old scenes were not really RERENDERED per se. It's like the comparison between what ZSNES games look like on normal mode, and then AA'd with the 2x Super Eagle or HQX engine. It smooths out the jaggies, but doesn't actually offer any more DETAIL. Many of the scenes in FF7:ACC look like they were upscaled in the same way(or possible just rendered at higher resolution) without adding any new detail/polygons, with the exception of some mud and blood on their faces/body at certain scenes. It does look better than the DVD on all scenes, but only in the same way that the HQX renders of SNES games look better than the blocky versions. Don't underestimate it, it does look great, but not as great as all the new scenes. It's very obvious which scenes are new, even if you didn't watch the original movie. I still love it though.

Sony needs to pool all their resources into getting an FF7 remake for the PS3, stop working on other projects, just for now, focus everything on getting a FF7 remake on the PS3, it will be an instant blockbuster hit and propel the PS3 to the top of the charts for a while to come.
Or if MS can do it, then their system will enjoy a long stay of popularity in Japan.

They've got to realize that the FF7 train is going to run out soon. The people who played that game as young teenagers are getting close to 30 years old now and are possibly growing out of video games. It's obvious that there is still a demand for it, and if they were to release a remake of it, it would be the best selling game in Japan of this generation (excluding all the crap on the Wii/DSi). I mean, we're in a huge freaking recession, so why not focus your energies on the one IP that you have that will give you a license to print money? I seriously can't understand what they are waiting for!!!

FF7 is releasing in Japan as a PS1 classic if it hasn't already done so. I'm not sure it would make much sense to re-make for the Wii considering the purpose of these remakes is to do them in high definition.

It would be the worst thing S-E could do ever.
Die-hard fan's would complain because it SE would change something. With the chance to remake it they'd be so so tempted to tweak it, even if it's some dialouge or something. With the chance for 3D environment's instead of the poly's walking on a 2D painting, no random encounter's, you'd want to change it. And people will call fowl.
Their best bet is to just release the PS1 version on PS Store globally. it takes no developing, it'll be exactly the same game everyone remember's.
Think of the new Star Trek film. People will complain that the Kirk isn't Shatner's Kirk, the Enterprise look's different, the acting is different, and the Bridge n computer's are all different, but as pointed out if you want to see Shatner's Kirk, the old deck, redshirt's getting killed and KHANN!!!! then you watch the orignal movies.
Oh n FFVII isn't the greatest game in the world either. Good but not great. Personally I want a FFIX remake, but I like the original, and can still play it on the PS3, so I don't care that FFIXHD doesn't' exist.

Of all final fantasies, VII deserves the remake treatment the most. Why? Well, have you PLAYED it? FFVII was really a mishmash of various art styles and an inconsistant product. Not other Final Fantasy felt as disjointed as VII. So from that standpoint, I want to see a remake just to remove the blemish from the series.

You can remove the blemish of the series by simply burying it and forgetting it ever happened.
Crisis Core was a decent enough pseudo-remake that told all the important bits of the FF7 story and was pretty. Also the main character doesn't make you want to kill yourself or make a Linkin Park/FF7 AMV. Villain still sucks though.

I at least wanna check the demo. I've only bought FF7 and didn't even come close to finishing because I got stuck somewhere then ended up trading it in, waaaay down the line after realizing it was hidden under a thick, warm blanket of dust on my shelf. Lol....
I still wonder if Kutargari was the reason for Sony losing all of their usual suspects exclusives, including the FF series, and Sony canned him, with honor, of course. Or, maybe, it was just Sony realizing that they couldn't retain exclusives with such a progressive minded system in the PS3 which broke the bank in terms of the loses per consoles. Hmm.
Anyway, I wanna see what they do with the demo for the PS3 so I can decide if I will get if for my PS3.

My two house mate's are getting PS3's to play this game ( and a few other's, ie GOW 3 n Uncharted 1+2)
They know it'll come out on their 360's, but they also know it's had 5 year's of development for PS3, and it'll have a 6 month port to 360. and one of em's played SE games on a 360, and though I have pointed out it's a different engine, Last Remnant was a bit too glitchy for his taste's.

The thing is that it's still an exclusive in the Japan. Everyone in Japan who wants to play Final Fantasy will have to do so on their PS3. It's likely the 360 version will sell more in North America because of the difference in install base.

@Tektro:
Sony had nothing to do with letting Mircosoft getting FF13 it was all Square, it was a good and bad business move at the same time, on one hand Square it guaranteed to make more money from the NA install base from both PS3 and 360.
On the other hand they delayed a game that was 95% done on the PS3 just because Square (or Mircosoft) wanted a simultaneous release on both consoles. But i think people who have both consoles will get it on the PS3 ( as stated above, a longer dev time for PS3) and the others will get it from the one console they own(like me, PS3).
