Blizzcon 08 beta codes now being accepted

Alas, the email doesn't mention what the beta will actually be for, nor does it say when the beta will occur. If we had to guess -- and we do -- it's probably for StarCraft II or Diablo III, both of which have betas planned. StarCraft 2 seems the likelier choice, given that plans for a 2009 beta were revealed earlier this year.

maybe next year ... I doubt they'd go anything but closed beta this year... and even then it will probably be november/december

who cares about beta codes? if you wanna play starcraft ii right now, just boot up the first starcraft videogame for the pc. starcraft ii is pretty much going to be starcraft, but just with newer high-res graphics this time around. the same can be said about diablo iii. diablo ii equals diablo iii.

I love the "Every game sequel is just more of the last game" argument you guys keep pulling out. Yeah a lot of IPs don't stray from the original, but even blizzard is up for change. Warcraft 3 was nothing at all like Warcraft aside from a few units having the same name, and you know what happened? People hated it. I mean War 3 does have a good following, but everyone I know the plays SC just hated it. Innovation works if you are Shiggy Miyamoto, but Blizzard doesn't have the magical Shiggy-wand of awesomeness. Instead they refine what they are good at and every time they refine something it just gets that much more awesome.

The Canadian Store future shop already has Starcraft 2 Listed. For release on October 31st.

This been up for a couple weeks now, actually. Well... maybe longer, actually. I didn't check the site too frequently after Blizzcon, but just a couple weeks ago I did and it was up. I dunno if it was up earlier then that, though. Like I said, didn't check often.

Uh, there's nothing mysterious about the Blizzcon '08 codes. Blizzard announced at the con they are for the upcoming SC2 beta, and it was also stated in con the program guide. Did the staff on Joystiq totally miss that?

The card even says "StarCraft II Beta Key" on it when you scratch it off. I played it at Blizzcon though, so I pawned my card on Ebay, made back what the ticket cost me and then some!

Looking at my card, it just says "Beta Key," and doesn't specify the game. We all know it's SC2, but it's not actually written on the card.
