I was really disappointed when I found that. I'm even debating on cancelling my Uncharted 2 preorder until I get some sort of confirmation that the single player quality isn't taking a hit on this.

Not surprised, with the fiasco of Killzone 2 sales, Sony needs money, and people luv uncharted like the girl next door.

Dude, I wouldn't even worry.

Remember, this game will have been in the making for 2 years AFTER all the hardcore game engine work was completed and the first game shipped. They've had plenty of time to work on SP (which most likely was planned out before hand anyhow)

And we don't even know the full details yet. For all we know they could've brought a team of Sony guys from anywhere to just work solely on MP while Naughty Gods worked on the SP.

Are you fucking kidding me zune? How someone can say a million in a month is bad is beyond me. Some of your (gamers') expectations and reactions to sales numbers are just insane.

tmac, your reaction is a bit over the top too. Just play the damn game and find out if it's good. Canceling a preorder just because they decide to put in multiplayer? That's borderline anti-FFXIII-guy-from-YouTube.

Levi, Gears of war 2 sold more than that in its first few weeks. I saw Kz2 ads every day. It is by far the most hyped game of the PS3. To be outsold by and RTS (halo wars) is downright sad. It only sold 600,000 thousand in the U.S. where the FPS is king. Kz2 sales=epic fail. Most other games that is really well. KZ2, those sales suck.

@ iluvmyzune

"It is by far the most hyped game of the PS3. To be outsold by and RTS (halo wars) is downright sad."

An RTS with the name "Halo" slapped on. Oh, but we all know Halo 2 and 3 wasn't hyped AT ALL right? Do you know how many people bought that game just because of the Halo tag? I'm guessing the majority of them.

You're a blatant fanboy, nobody cares what you have to say, Killzone 2 has sold over 600k by the way.

Oh, c'mon. I don't understand why gamers have to point out the number of fucking sales a game had and throw figures as if they work for Sony or some shit, like who the fuck cares?!

Anyways, I think the multi-player would be great if it was just like GTA IV where there would be nothing to gain by leveling up, as opposed to COD4/WaW where you really need to level up to gain extra guns and etc.
TLDR; a general, pick it up deathmatch along with a few more game types where ranks just dont exist, because I honestly don't see Uncharted having a fully fledged multi-player mode. Until then, it's all speculation.

It'll have had 2 years of dev time once it comes out, building up from an already existing engine. With Uncharted 1, a very large portion of their time was doing the basic technical stuff - something they didn't have to do this time around.

I have no doubt that'll the single player will be every bit as good as Uncharted 1's.

Slap the name "Halo" on a product, and i can guarantee the sales will go up. Halo wars was okay, definitely not the best RTS game.

i don't mind them making multiplayer as long as they dont take resources away from the Single Player. Some games that have multiplayer in it have another team working on that part of it. Just wait till the game comes out, and then decide on that... Canceling your order because you heard multiplayer was in it is ridiculous.

Just to tag on to the whole KZ2 sales argument:

Fine, Halo Wars outsold it. Fine, it's an established franchise, and Fine, a million in 6 months isn't bad for KZ2.

But let's not compare it to Halo Wars?

Let's go back to 2006. Gears of War [[the original]]. The game was an original IP from Epic/Microsoft, and the 360's install base was comparable to what the PS3's is now.

Gears sold a million in 2 weeks, 2 million in 6 and 3 million in 10.

So why isn't KZ2 selling?
It's not that it's not a good game, i've played it and it's fantastic...as were LittleBigPlanet, Resistance 2 and R&C Future. But all of those games had craptastic sales.

Why?

Because sony blows at marketing.

So, to clear: Sales don't mean a thing regarding quality of the game: hell, Chinatown wars sold 88k and Madworld sold 60k and those were amazing games.. but if your game isn't marketed, it's not going to sell.

MS/Sony fanboys, stfu.

game sales are affirmation, obviously game sales should mean little to us but it does gauge how successful the console is doing. if sales arent good neither is the outlook. as for killzone 2 i really expected it to sell a hell of alot better than it actually did. 5 years development with an unlimited budget tons of magazine coverage and several tv commercials, im dumb founded that it hasnt even sold half as many copies compared to Resident evil 5.

You guys are too hard on Zune. While a million in a month is still nothing to scoff at I certainly thought it would do much better... It was definitely the most hyped PS3 game ever. It just shows that a large percentage of PS3 owners are people who don't really game and bought it for Blu-ray and movie downloads. I still love KZ2 and just played it the other day again. But still 1 mill for a very highly hyped game is an underachievement IMO, especially since the game is actually good.

As for not buying this game because it now has MP, is BS. Im sure Naughty Dog would not let us down. The SP will still be great and im going to enjoy it along with MP.

Taking resources away from sp to mp turns this from a day 1 buy to a rental at best, and before idiots say it has no effect, even game devs like 2k boston admit it strains the sp team.

Right, and remember before Prototype got delayed it was looking really rough...then they delayed it and took out the multiplayer, and now it looks really good. It's no secret tacking on multiplayer strains the dev team.

Right.. and you don't think with the core engine in place, that more time is freed up for the developers? I know they optimized the engine so it supposedly looks even better, but they coded the graphics and game engine from scratch the first time around. I would put money on the idea that not having to code an impressive graphics engine from the ground up would free up enough time to tack on multiplayer.

If anything, the multiplayer won't be very expansive, because the single player is what made the first so popular.

whatever marty, I think the point is that no one's seen uncharted 2 multiplayer and it could absolutely be the greatest game ever, it might also suck. But no one's seen it.

call it like it is sure , after you've played it, but making a statement like "it's tacked on" before anyone's even seen or played it is just negative, judgmental and premature.

Don't be an idiot.

I really enjoyed the first Uncharted...

I'm not a fan of multiplayer games... to be honest, I prefer single player experiences... I just hope that they don't make the single player mode very short, like most games with a multiplayer component, which seems to be a huge selling point with new games these days.

*coughkillzone2*

I beat KZ2 in under 7 hours the first play through. On medium. Beat it quicker the second time through on Hard. While the multiplayer is extensive, I almost wish they would start splitting these games up. Make SP a full release, and make MP a full release. Maybe the prices could change to $40 and $40, with a package (tee hee) deal of $60 for both.

It'll never happen though. The closest we've gotten and probably will ever get is MGO, and maybe if they ever come out with a single player Warhawk. That would rock..

Come on now, everyone else thought the same thing when they read the headline - why vote the guy down?

We're not stupid here - companies don't include beta for highly anticipated games with other games just for the charity of it - they do it to increase sales of what can sometimes be an otherwise questionable product.

No need to get defensive about it.

This is Naughty Dog Ink. we're talking about, not some broke ass bankrupt dev studio - They're owned by SONY, I think they can afford to hire a few more staff to take care of the MP.

Anways, bringing MP to this game will be interesting. Something like treasure hunting mode could be fun, as well as a possibility of co-op.
