Madden 10 cover to curse two athletes: Larry Fitzgerald and Troy Polamalu
EA continues reinventing the Madden cover. This year's cover features not one, but two players, in a stylized cover that's reminiscent of Street Fighter IV. The Cardinals' wide receiver, Larry Fitzgerald, and the Steelers' safety, Troy Polamalu, will share the spotlight on EA Sports' annual NFL game when it goes on sale on August 14th. The two teams should be familiar to anyone who watched last year's Super Bowl -- y'know, people that play Madden.
In addition to debuting the cover athlete, EA Sports released more screenshots, which you can peruse in our gallery.

No need to say thank you.
It's all in a day's work.
jeff @ Apr 24th 2009 10:56AM
C'mon man, the guys a million years old. Madden cover had nothing to do with it.
Never should have gotten rid of Chad (although me and my phins sure appreciated it)
iluvmyzune @ Apr 24th 2009 11:53AM
Personally, I think Randy Moss is much better than larry fitzgerald. Randy Moss is more of a FREAK than Lebron James
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Apr 24th 2009 1:08PM
They should have put Madden on this years cover in celebration of his retirement.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ Apr 24th 2009 3:22PM
@ iluvmyzune
ur crazy! Fitzgerald is more of a freak than Moss. ok Moss has great speed and hands but Fitz has great speed, hands, and a completely domininating size. there is nobody in the league to match up with the guy. Fitzgerald is like mixing Randy Moss with the Hulk, completely unstoppable.
@ CTC
i second that. the guys been the name of the franchise for how many years? they should have put him on the cover like on the old ones. maybe they put him on the collector's edition or sumtin.

when will they cut the year number at the end of Sports game. Madden 10 sounds kinda lame, and next year Madden 11 doesn't get any better
Peter Moore @ Apr 24th 2009 10:36AM
Actually, it's 1 better.
InFaMoUs1- @ Apr 24th 2009 10:40AM
they need to stop making Madden games every year then. there is definitely not $60 worth of NEW content on each game every year. I've bought only one Madden game which was 06' for the PS2 and found it to be good, tried a few after through demos or playing at a friends and I couldn't really tell the difference other than a few controls changed and graphics.
BlackwtrMerc @ Apr 24th 2009 10:41AM
You may be Peter Moore, but that's still a lame response.
And I agree, "Madden 10" does sound pretty lame.
doc j @ Apr 24th 2009 10:39AM
Huh. My two favorite currently-active players.
Still probably won't buy the game, unless they suddenly take a cue from the NFL 2K series and make playing the game fun. Novel idea.
Vcize @ Apr 24th 2009 11:43AM
Have you played the NFL 2K series lately? Even ignoring the lack of an NFL license, their most recent game blew chunks.
I'm not sure why everyone still holds such a special place in their heart for the 2k games like we're still back in 2005, other than NBA 2k they've fallen behind EA in every sport.
doc j @ Apr 24th 2009 11:56AM
No, I stopped playing the 2k series when they lost the NFL license - like the majority of sane gamers did.
Madden is better at the Franchise mode, always has been, but when it came to fun gameplay I didn't think Madden 09 was even close ESPN NFL 2K5 (and, yes, I played it).
I'm not suggesting people start playing the All-Pro series. That's ludicrous.
Michelobius @ Apr 24th 2009 1:28PM
We cling to the 2K series because NFL 2K5 was THE GREATEST FOOTBALL SIMULATION OF ALL TIME. And still is. I always found the Madden character models to look chunky, and their animation to look stale. The screenies for Madden 10 look finally realistic, but those are screenshots, which are not to be trusted.
Rhinosaur @ Apr 24th 2009 10:40AM
I remember the first "screenshots" of the initial next-gen Madden.
Actual gameplay was nowhere close.
Permission to be skeptical?
BRich @ Apr 24th 2009 10:40AM
Definitely the best Madden cover ever
butaneko @ Apr 24th 2009 10:41AM
Next year's cover? A baby. Will he be the NFL's next big thing?
rollntider @ Apr 24th 2009 10:44AM
Fitzgerald and Shaun Alexander have been on both the college and pro versions.... thats awesome.
jeff @ Apr 24th 2009 10:53AM
They have a trailer on gametrailers.
Unfortunatly they are doing site maintenance right now.
Fallon said he would have them on tonight though.
jeff @ Apr 24th 2009 11:43AM
They are all fixed now, heres the trailer.

krippledkalvin @ Apr 24th 2009 4:36PM
I like it how half the changes from the first batch of screenshots aren't in that trailer and how it looks very much like 09...
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 24th 2009 10:55AM
Props, EA. Thats one nice and stylish looking cover.

madden 10 'long hair edition'
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 24th 2009 11:47AM
I'll only buy this if we're allowed to rip those stupid dreads out. Everytime I see those clowns running on the field with that stuff flapping around I'm always waiting for someone to yank them on the ground by the hair.
j.howlett @ Apr 24th 2009 12:54PM
it's happened
Michelobius @ Apr 24th 2009 1:39PM
All the off-field problems in sports, not to mention financial woes of an overindulgent sport in a rough economy, and you're worried about the players with hair coming out of their helmet? The No Fun League doesn't exactly allow for much expression, and Fitzgerald + Polamolu are some of the more stand up characters in the league, hardly deserving of being called "clowns". Have a little respect, and look at the big picture.
Alex @ Apr 24th 2009 11:01AM
No! Not my Steelers :(
Mitsuo @ Apr 24th 2009 12:35PM
Correction. NO NOT MY POLAMALU! Q_Q
I.AM.IRON.MAN @ Apr 24th 2009 11:08AM
Did the madden curse take effect for the guy on the 09 cover?
Paul @ Apr 24th 2009 11:27AM
well it was brett favre who had the jets playing great but then they choked down the stretch and missed the playoffs if i recall correctly. and now he is retired so i suppose...
RiccochetJ @ Apr 24th 2009 11:53AM
Actually he decided to finally retire in large part because of an injury to his trowing arm that he incurred during the season. Just google his reason for retiring...
Dan Davis @ Apr 28th 2009 2:44AM
@RiccochetJ:
"Just google his reason for retiring..."
That may be the most unintentionally funny thing I've ever heard. How many freakin times did this assclown retire???
BTW - I Googled "Brett Favre + retirement" and got 301,000 hits.
verymetal @ Apr 24th 2009 11:11AM
Hurryup offense on every down is for sissies and spineless cowards, who do not know the true sport of Football.
Deezul @ Apr 24th 2009 11:15AM
Because dragging your ass and Delay of Game penalties are what its about.
Mr Khan @ Apr 24th 2009 11:39AM
No, what's for sissies are these idiotic pass interference rules. The days when receivers would get brutalized with honor were much better than now when they cry to the refs for protection from the scary men
Hate those rules...
Dirty @ Apr 24th 2009 11:50AM
Sounds like someone is an eagles fan.
malexandria @ Apr 24th 2009 12:16PM
That's why I gave up on Madden years ago. It became too complicated and next to impossible to have decent match online because of aholes who always used hurry up offense, never gave me a chance to properly set my offense, then the constant blitzes, just became an exercise in frustration.
LilTmac2003 @ Apr 24th 2009 1:11PM
I agree.
It's very hard to find an actual good player to play online. Whether it's going for it on every down, hail mary for every pass, QB run with Vince Young or McNabb.
In '05, they had this option 'Fair Play' I believe, where you had to punt on 4th down if you're out of FG range, you can't onside kick every damn kickoff.
I have no clue why they took it off. BTW, I liked Madden '09. It's not my favorite of the series, but better than '08.
Sean @ Apr 24th 2009 11:35AM
I wish they just call it Madden NFL 2010 n not Madden 10 it sounds so retarded. I hope next year EA gets a clue n named it Madden NFL 2011 or 2k11
Lakkus @ Apr 24th 2009 11:48AM
Madden 2k11? no
Joe Cart @ Apr 27th 2009 2:19AM
