We're of two minds about the intro sequence to the 360, PS3 and PC version of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, available after the break. On the one hand, it is a definite mistake to be interested in licensed movie games based on how closely they resemble the movies, rather than on their own merits as games.
But on the other hand, wow, that is totally Ghostbusters. From the awkward mundanity of the self-produced advertising, to the Gozer/Shandor references, to the off-screen museum scare, this intro just gets it right. There's something weird, and it does look good. Good thing the game itself looks like a winner as well.
This is actually another thing that makes it totally accurate - note that the monitor is 4:3 aspect ratio. Therefore, just as in the panned & scanned versions of the movie, Winston is just out of sight on either the left or right of the frame!
It's 1991 in the game, Winston has been in the team for 7 years or something. Also, that's not the same commercial as the first movie, but it's very similar.
Anyway, I know Ernie Hudson is on the game, so I'm psyched for the return of the original crew. Can't wait.
Touche'. 1991 is the first date I ever remembered writing down, and ghostbusters is just super engrained into my early childhood, I never made the connection of the movies actual release date. But you are right. I don't know where he is.
I think the reason this game will do well is because it was created with the mindset that it's a game first and not just some extra product made to capitalize on a movie that's just about to release. Considering that the movies this game is based on came out 20 years ago it's nice to see that the developer took great care in paying homage to the source material!
See, this purchase has absolutely nothing to do with gameplay for me. I am getting it solely because the cast and writers returned to create it. I'm willing to endure any amount of terrible or un-interesting gameplay to see what they are calling "Ghostbusters 3." I have never said that about any video game, before ever. And hopefully never will have to say again.

I remember the first time I saw the library ghost come flying at you in the movie theater, so much larger than life. Such a great flick!
That was one of my most memorable movie theater moments!
Gremlins: Keeping my feet off the ground so no gremlins grabbed me. Rocky III: Punching the back of the seat in front of me and getting punished for yelling, "that was fucking awesome!" Christmas vacation: Funny movie and my first time feeling a tit. (seventh grade)
I love Ghostbusters and can't wait to play this game, but that clip was pretty terrible. The pacing was way too fast. Didn't establish any feeling of tension or creepiness at all.
Also, who wants to see the Ecto-1 carefully back into a garage? We want to see that sucker come barreling in; if not headfirst into the garage let's at least see it pull off a wreckless handbrake spin.
I think I've just been convinced to buy the 360 version, and maybe just rent the Wii version when I want to have fun with multiplayer, and/or buy it some time down the line when I can get it cheaper.
This video got me pumped! I literally started clapping once the theme song kicked in (I was already stoked that they were using snippets from the Elmer Bernstein score)
