After revealing that the PC version of Battlefield 1943 would release over two months after the XBLA release, DICE is attempting to cool the heads of angry PC fans on the EA forums. Producer Gordon Van Dyke explains that Battlefield 1943 will be the first PC game to use DICE's Frostbite Engine, which was already used to create the console exclusive Battlefield: Bad Company.
Van Dyke states that the PC's open nature requires more features and support and adds that the game "can't just be thrown out there using copy/paste." DICE was aware that there might be backlash from PC gamers, but Van Dyke notes, "We feel once you play the first Frostbite PC game ever from DICE you'll see why we put this extra time and care in on the development making all right again in the universe."
We'll find out in September.

I'm not sure why you're looking forward to heroes more then this, I beta tested Heroes and it's not really all that exciting sadly, It's not a terrible game but if you are a fan of the Battlefield series it shares little in common with it's big brothers.
This game on the other hand looks epic even if it just has limited levels, It chose some of my favorites from the original. Now when are we going to get Bocage and Operation Market Garden :P

Heroes is woefully inadequate, and the tanks are dumbed down to let all of the rocket wussies have the advantage. This will only lead to kiddies being interested in staying for long, as the balancing is a major issue with testers. The folks developing it are not listening.

Sure, they're "polishing" it... aaaand like every other publisher, the want to stagger the release of console-to-PC ports so that the majority of the sales can be done without fear of piracy cutting into potential sales. It's fast becoming a normal procedure.

This is an online-only game. It won't be pirated much.

I'm excited to play a game like this with the XBL community of friends I have. Back in the day (Oh no, here it comes) We would load up BF1942 and the Desert Combat mod and play 20-32 people. It was a lot of fun, but the servers just aren't as full as they used to be. I never got bored of the game, but apparently everyone else did, i'll be buying it for xbl, due to the giant community of gamers.

Has any from EA lately been bug free? BF2 is still not smoothly optimized and I doubt this will be too. And is there going to be like 3 different version of battlefield coming out as well... If only they could just focus on BF3 and making it awesome, then I could care less about the rest.

Sorry, pal, but fat chance of that happening. BF2142 is still buggy as hell and they just released a patch for that.

These "excuses" are unnecessary, in fact they are kind of insulting. They want to polish and add more features, just for us PC owners? Please. It's to maximize profits, why not just say that.
Also, it seems some developers are under the impression there are two distinct groups of gamers out there, PC gamers and Console gamers. It's like DICE is assuming that anyone who's a PC gamer can't possibly have played Bad Company before, and anyone who has played Bad Company can't possibly be a PC gamer. Hello? Gamers are gamers! Sure we might have a preferred platform, but that doesn't mean we stick to one platform exclusively, ignorant to the others.
Finally, Heroes is fun for a few days, but right now it kind of sucks. It's running rampant with hackers, lag is kinda horrible (get used to "There is a problem with your connection" messages), matchmaking is non-existent, and the game itself is very shallow once you get past the abilities. When it's released it'll also be full of advertising, which won't make things any better.
And that's all I have to say about that.

Unfortunately you just described a lot of people who do exactly that. =/
I'm kind of irked that this is coming out so much later for the PC, but hey at least they're making the effort to do it. Although, I'd much rather have Battlefield 3.

Collymilad,
It's funny that you should mention that considering most of Joystiq's threads are filled with the bitching, crying, and whining of console kiddies such as yourself. I know I'm getting tired of opening an article and seeing a thread full of nothing but: how a game failed because it didn't sell 6,000,000 copies on its first weekend, who's getting shafted in terms of exclusive DLC, who's getting the short end of the stick when it comes to a delay, and how horrible it is that a game has lost exclusivity. With the amount of bitching coming for your camps, one wonders if you have any time left to actually play videogames.

Also, unless you're a thick moron, you can see what the guy is trying to say.
He's basically saying that it is easier to get on consoles because the engine has already been used for one game, yet it's the first time the engine will be used on PC. So of course it's going to take more time to implement it to even the SAME standard.

Well Battlefield fans should be enthusiastic about this announcement!
Why?
I assume (and I really do assume), that by developing the Frostbite engine for the PC; we can expect Battlefield 3 to use it. Maybe I'm stupid and 102472947 years behind some people who already knew this but I thought I'd point it out.
Battlefield 3 would be awesome using the Frostbite engine, but hopefully it'll feel like a true PC shooter.

DC .8?
When the hell did they ever say they were releasing any sort of SDK for this? This is a half assed PC port of a game meant for consoles. NO MODS. NO CUSTOM MAPS.
What you see is WHAT YOU GET.
Forget this shit, just go buy a copy of Battlefield 1942, download the 30+gigs worth of modifications that exist for it, and you'll be all set.

I was really excited to Beta test this when it was first offered, but the reason why it is not out after nearly a year of testing is all too evident.....it does not has substance. It is also obvious that you will be playing with 9-12 year olds who do not expect any realism, or balancing of any kind, and who like to spend money on window dressing for their characters. I expected more of the TF2 experience, but saw none of that. There is nothing like being killed by a rocket after hitting him with a tank repeatedly, and not doing enough damage to finish him off. Other weapon issues remain, and low level players will get over-whelmed by cheaters and higher level players fairly quickly, and leave the game in droves.
