Japanese hardware sales, April 13 - April 19: Complete edition

As most of you have probably already heard, the tides of this week's Japanese Hardware Sales war were violently shifted by a mere bonus feature emblazoned onto a certain Blu-ray disc. Okay, fine -- the Blu-ray disc in question was the highly anticipated Advent Children Complete, and the feature was an even highlier anticipated demo for Final Fantasy XIII, but still. If the insightful director's commentary on Weekend at Bernie's II caused a spike in Xbox 360 sales, you'd find that a tad curious, no?

Though the console sales figures are continuing to drop at a slow but steady pace, this demo-fueled PS3 upswing gives us some hope. Can you imagine what those figures are going to look like when the full version of FFXIII hits Japanese store shelves? We're not certain our trusty TI-89 can calculate percentage change when a number jumps from 30,000 to a hundred-million bajillion.

PS3 is King this week, you don't say.

People wait 2+ years for specific games before they buy a console? You don't say.

Not surprised at the spike, they do love their final fantasy over there. Just imagine how crazy it will be when the remake of 7 eventually comes out.

I'm pretty sure the FF7 remake is never going to happen. It was always a rumor, it was never on the cards as being taken seriously.

It'll happen the minute one of the series fails to pull in expected revenue. I mean, Dirge of Cerberus? They clearly aren't being serious yet.

wow...i wonder what will happen when the game (ff13)does finally come out? at least SE wasn't stupid enough to keep it a timed exclusive on the 360 like everything esle they drop. that would be a disaster.

HD is defined by 720p or HIGHER, dumbass Plumbercrakerboi.

480p was known for a short period as ED enhanced Definition.

720p or 1080i is known as HD HIGH definition.

1080p is known as FULL HD.

Class dismissed.

I have all 3 consoles and a DS and I think they're all great, I don't know why everyone is PMSing all over the place because I said Nintendo has HD capabilities. I didn't say they were higher quality or even equal capabilities, either.

I don't know a lot on the subject but I've never heard 480p referred to as high definition.

It's all good. I didn't know you had already replied until I had already posted my previous comment.

The Wii is capable of HD and i stand by that myself. Its a common known fact the Gamecube and Xbox 1 had fairly equivalent power, with the Xbox 1 only just nudging ahead. Yes the GC clock speeds were lower, but the architecture and ram was MUCH faster, giving them some games that looked better than any Xbox games. The only thing that let the GC down was lack of storage on the GC disks, meaning games were often compressed and ugly. Since the Xbox 1 had some 720p games, and the GC was nearly as powerful, AND the Wii is about double the power of the GC, then technically, there is every reason the Wii could do 720p. Its unlikely they will, i don't blame them really, it's not meant as a HD console, but it CAN do 720p, which (thanks to Kenny Powers) IS a HD resolution.

I think if anything, these charts show very clearly that it isn't the system's quality and features that sells, but the content. Each system gets huge spikes in sales depending on certain releases. If this exact release was on the 360, or even the Wii (obviously avoiding the lack of realism here), we would see those systems get spikes in sales instead.

But hey, whatever. Success for any business is pretty much good right now :P

Content? Is it a reaally long demo?

I suppose a similar thing happened with the Halo 3 beta, but in any case this is only franchise power, this can't be more than a speck on the ps3's current library in terms of quality content.
