When our fake plastic instruments kick the bucket, we toss them out the window onto a steadily increasing pile on the West Lawn. After that, we call the company responsible for said peripherals and start negotiating just how high the review score of its next game needs to be for it to ship us a brand-spanking new set. (The packing material? $100 bills.)
But if you're in the general populace rather than a key influencer, you may have use of the thorough Guitar Hero World Tour repair guide. In an interview with Ars Technica, the guide's author, Josh Straub, said that he believed instrument failure was almost guaranteed with high use, so even if you haven't had problems, you might want to make a bookmark for yourself. You know, just in case.

Working at a retailer, I can tell you firsthand how many people have had broken Guitar Hero: World Tour drums and guitars. There was a lot of broken stuff from Rock Band 1 as well, but little to none from Rock Band 2.
However, the difference is that Rock Band's instruments actually have a return policy. If it's within a certain time, Harmonix will cover shipping and get you a new instrument for free. Red Octane forces you to pay for shipping, which is pretty lame since they were the ones who made the product that was defective.
Still, it's nice to see someone putting out a way to fix some of this stuff. The only problem is that I suspect that a lot of this will void the warranty.

Why would you want a warranty when you fix it yourself?

I get extremely mad when trying to fix something voids the warranty!
I understand it, but seriously can't we get some credit for effort? (And I'm talking all things here, not just Guitar Hero instruments).

"When our fake plastic instruments kick the bucket, we toss them out the window..."What the hell? ....You guys must love wasting money. Every time my RB instruments broke, I just fixed them in whatever way I could think of. I'm still using my release-day RB set. It's probably sturdier now with all the reinforcements than it was brand new.

How about making them to last. There problem solve. Stop the through away generation. If it isn't new and shinny it's crap.

Agreed. We should be encouraged to fix something instead of adding waste. A scratched up, but fixed and working, guitar works never-the-less. And if you can't fix it, then mod it up into something new.

Hm, I do need to fix my strum bar, but medium repair skill is way above me it seems (I'd have to get the equipment shipped as well). Oh well, I'm used to not being able to downstrum anyway. Even so, the guides look very thorough, so kudos to Josh.

I'm glad I have Rockband (they have way better songs anyway) plus you CAN'T BEAT the BEATLES.
