@ Night Elve

That's no reason to not include it. A game can have a great single-player experience, and simply allow for coop play if people want to play that way. There's a lot of people who prefer coop to single-player, and it's difficult to balance a game to cater to both.

"I disagree. In a story driven game like Uncharted, how do you integrate another co-op character without affecting the story constructed for single player? I don't want them bending the narrative to accomodate a play mode, "

That's my whole point...you don't. Did you even read my post?

Have everything EXACTLY the same as in single player. Cut-scenes featuring just Nathan, dialog featuring just Nathan, etc. Only when you actually start running through the level, there are two of you instead of one and a few extra enemies spawn. Hell, the 2nd player can just be another copy of Nathan wearing red instead of blue for all I care. I know it's not realistic, but I'm well aware that I'm playing a videogame here and not actually out running through the jungles (or through the streets this time I suppose), and that way people like yourself and Naughty Dog still get the exact same single player experience you always wanted.

My whole point is, I don't see why a game has to be built around co-op to have co-op. If a game like Gears or Army of Two wants to build it around co-op then fine, but other games can build it around single player and then just let us throw an extra no name character and a few more enemy spawns in there during the actual fighting sequences if we want it.

Heck, Halo 3 did it to an extent. The game is exactly the same whether you play with 2, 3, or 4 players. If you play 2 player co-op then there are 2 of you running around. If you play 3 or 4 player co-op then there are 3 or 4 of you running around, but the cutscenes, story, etc are all exactly the same as if you were playing with only 2 people. Why can't we extend that down to 1 person?

Hyams does make a valid point though that it might be tricky to just let you throw in extra people in a game that involves platforming in that it might make easy solutions to otherwise complex puzzles, but Uncharted was always more action than puzzles anyway. Plus, this extends out well beyond Uncharted.

My experience with the LBP level creator contradicts all this, though.

I play tested my level time and time again - really, I must have played it close to 50 times, by the time I was done - to look out for any bugs. I was convinced I'd made it full-proof, until I sat down to play it co-op with my brother, and suddenly loads of problems I hadn't been able to account for showed up, some of them irreversible.

My point is: you can't just shove a second character into a game, as it can create unforseen complications.

Nah, I dont think it would work for the full story. There are sections that are designed to be cinematic especially when it comes to platforming. For example, when Drake was scaling the castle in the first one, there were a bunch of cracks that crumbled when you grabbed on to them after 15 secs. Imagine if there was a second player behind you. He'd just fall to his death. If they simply extended the time so they dont crumble as fast, then you would lose your sense of urgency.

The difference with the Uncharted to other co-op games is that the single player was designed specifically for 1 person in mind. If you had two (or 3) people then the gameplay elements would have to be tweaked a lot which would diminish the overall quality imo.

Maybe, maybe not. Character models from the first game can also be used in the multiplayer, so this doesn't really confirm anything.

"Plunder" sounds like it takes a lot from "Kill the man with the ball" (Smear the Queer with a more PC name) in Marathon. It was very much a blast.

There were no teams in Marathon, you just vied for individual wins through holding the ball for the longest total time. You could throw the ball but there was no one to throw it to for a pass the ball brigade, you just would throw it so you could shoot again, then hope to pick it up yourself later.

Since the graphics are teh sex doing split-screen would've required a downgrade in graphics, that's probably the reason they didn't include it

They could've just gone the Gears of War route. (Downgrading the graphics only during splitscreen play.)

I LOVE co-op gaming! Split screen, online or LAN... just tell me where and when and I am in!

This piques my interest quite a bit. I messed around with the first one at a buddies house and enjoyed the heck out of it. I think if the price drops on a PS3 then it might be time for me to dive in.

Finally, my IKEA TV stand won't have an empty spot anymore. Should I put the cable box/dvr in between the elite 360 and PS3 just to separate them or go console/console/ DVR?

put the 360 in its own cubby so it doesnt overheat from being too close to two other machines, unless ur ikea thing is open air shelf like, then put it how it looks sexiest to you. id personally put the 360 in the closet though cuz after you see what the ps3 can do, n you dont have it die every 3-6 months, ur not gonna want to go back. it happened to me.
