During an appearance at an Apple Store in Ginza, Tokyo, Metal Gear maven Hideo Kojima was questioned by a concerned, rabid fan as to just how long he planned to remain in the industry. Kojima proudly displayed a mock resume, which contained the answer to the aforementioned question: "I'd like to continue being on the scene making games until I die." The MGS fans within us certainly hope his life will be as long as his cutscenes, relatively speaking.
He went on to explain that the only thing that could lure him away from the world of game development is, of course, space travel. Oh, aeronautical exploration! Does your temptation know no bounds?

I want more everything. He can start with ZOE3, move onto Boktai/Lunar Knights, wow us all with episodic Policenauts / Snatcher-esque games, and round it off with MGS 5.
Rinse, Repeat.

I remember however, in an EDGE interview, his anxiety about getting other (non-MGS) work done quickly, like a fear of being 'over the hill'. While he says he'll make games until death, I wonder what his thoughts are about older game designers, or being one himself.
Are there many 60+ game producers/directors?

That's all part and parcel with it being a maturing art medium. We don't have many but I know Will Wright is approaching 50. And we're seeing a side of him we never saw before. As the old guard gets older, expect their perspective to change what the medium is capable of just as the new blood will give us fresh perspectives.

Just no more MGS, please, Mr. Kojima UNLESS u either learn how to tell a story or get someone else who is a bit more professional than u at that. MGS4, while a fun ride and technical masterpiece, had such a long winded, ridiculously corny, over the top and non-sensical (is that a word?) storyline made me want to yak several times over. And I've been riding with u sense the very first MG and have noticed a lot of this over the series.
Other than that, I welcome u staying alive to cookup some other marvelous ish.

Welcome to Metal Gear. I guess you didn't play the other 3 games. This was fanservice, a wrap-up of the entire Snake saga. Once you understand that, you may appreciate the depth of the story, as ridiculous and corny as it seems, it's impressive how it ties up every loose end.

I've always said that Kojima-san has some amazing IDEAS for storytelling, leitmotifs and the like, but he either needs to let Tomokazu Fukushima have total control of the dialog and pacing, limiting Kojima to the camera (where he has a genuinely brilliant cinematic eye) or get someone else to do the English translation.

It's official, they're forcing the poor man to make games. Didn't he say in the past several times he wanted to stop? Maybe that was just MGS?
Whatever, it's more fun to think they're forcing him to make awesome. I'm thinking they've threatened his family...

Good for him - I hope I can find a job someday that I'd want to do until the day I die. I'm not a believer in retirement at all - the idea simply means you do something you don't care for for 30-40 years, and then spend your twilight years doing what you actually want to do... life's too short for that.

If that's how he wrapped up MGS4, I'm concerned about what he thinks is good storytelling. I'm hoping he tackles some new IPs not weighed down by years of loose ends that we never meant to be clumsily tied together.

Konami will just upload his consciousness into an A.I. program which will then take over the company, producing MGS games every three years till eternity.

Gavin be careful the internet is full of Kojima cultists who walk around preaching that his shit doesn't stink and claim his pores produce lactation from Unicorns.
These people feel that Kojima's brand of storytelling full of melodrama and overwrought "love scenes" rival the works of Dostoyevsky and Bertolt Brecht.
Choose your words wisely.

I KNOW! Fanboyism is partially the reason why I HATE HIM SO MUCH! If he were just a worthless no-name idiot that no one cared about, I wouldn't care. He isn't -- I hear how great he and his games are, incessantly, from the babbling masses around me and it drives me to mental sickness :P

I like Kojima's work and consider his stories to be masterpieces IN RELATION TO GAMES. Of course no game (yet) has had a story on par with Dostoyevsky or dialogue on par with Chekhov. Saying that Cult-jima considers his works masterpieces of fiction, not just games, would be stupid. In time games will become a truly breathtaking platform for storytelling, but nobody, not even Kojima, knows how to do it yet.

Popfrogs - Read thoroughly before responding to someone - "And I've been riding with u sense the very first MG and have noticed a lot of this over the series." Guess u didn't see that part of what I originally wrote. I love half cocked responses, just love em. Keep em coming, frog.
Noah - You're a bit on what I was saying so we pretty much agree. In truth, I think I dealt with a lot of the MG series story because I started off with the first MG as a youngster and a long the way, I grew up and matured, experiencing great story and such from either reading, movies or what have u. Once a person heightens it's level of intelligence, some things that may have appealed as a kid growing up, no longer do. I think MGS 2 is where I really grew to see how horrible of a story teller Kojima is. I think there are a couple reasons why - Japanese story telling is a bit convoluted, to begin with. It's in their culture and one can see the difference between American story telling and theirs in their movies. Too many layers that take it in different places. Then there is Kojima's love of American cinema. He thinks it's cool to reference American cinema and I think it comes off real weak.
Also, MGS 2 is where the actual voice acting and more cinema kicked in due to the power of the PS2. Turned my stomach since...
