Sorry, WiiWare fans -- it looks like Capcom's recently down-counted brawler Marvel vs. Capcom 2 isn't coming to your beloved download platform. Responding to a forum post inquiring as to why the fighter was deftly dodging the Wii, Capcom corporate head Christian Svensson said, "This is a downloadable play, not a retail play. We don't actually have any retail rights on this project. And there's no way to get anywhere near the WiiWare file size limit here."
In other words, Capcom doesn't have the right to sell the game at retail outlets (Marvel is probably holding some rights there), nor is the game tiny enough to fit on the WiiWare service. Perhaps Marvel or Capcom, sure. But both of them? In one download? Now you're just being ridiculous.

I mean, there was an implicit file size limit, and I guess, even with the SD card option you are limited by what you can load into RAM, but can this game really be that much bigger than some of the things already on the service?
I'm guessing it has more to do with that rumor about what nintendo changes developers to put a game on the service than anything else...

Nintendo should've planned ahead. Its really unfair that I wont be able to download this game, and I'm not going to go out n buy a PS360.
Bummer
At least we have some good games to look forward to like The Conduit

I'm sure that as a flaming Nintendo troll, others have told you to lighten up as well, although I doubt anyone has expected you to actually do so. And now you're cheering a 'small victory' together with the lamest twat that comments on the entire site? C'mmmmooonnnnn, you're better than that. How dareth, you stoopeth, so loweth. Seriously, you're such a consistent Nintendo troll you sometimes sound like as big of a broken record as fanboy Foetoid does when he's singing it's praises. Scary thought, eh?
It's a friggin old ass game that isn't coming out on the Wii, wow, who gives a shit. I haven't ever played the game, as I'm sure a significant amount of people haven't either. There's a raging population of fans of this game on gaming blogs, shocker, it doesn't have any bearing on anything and shouldn't be taken as a serious indication of anything beyond "old ass game x is coming out on console x & y" When it comes down to it, it's likely a tiny minority of console owners that actually give two shits about this. I seriously doubt the brass at the big 3 really even give a shit either.
Everyone had already counted the Celts out and expected the Bulls to roll 'em since KG is out, but it's been a much better series than people were anticipating. End of game 5 was fantastic, Pierce has got ice in his vains. Must say it's been awhile since I've seen Brad Miller take the court... Been a fan of Hinrich's, who knows why, since college.

Nice to know that you're basically invalidating any opinion you've held about this topic.
"as I'm sure a significant amount of people haven't either."
Quite, quite wrong. Not only is it still popular in the tourney scene, home console scene, and pirating scene (played via PSP), but there are even tons of casual gamers that pop their coins in and play it at the arcade in Chinatown in NYC.

I never argued that the game wasn't popular with some people. The tourney scene, the piracy scene, and your arcade in Chinatown, are all great examples of my point as to how this is only really big with a very small percentage of gamers.
It's popular on the home console scene? Really? Anybody that actually has a console they're playing the game on currently? Another example of a tiny percentage of gamers. People excited about it being on PSN or XBLA? Pretty much the same story.
Look, I never implied this wasn't a good game, or that there aren't plenty of people really excited for it. But this isn't a huge announcement console making or breaking announcement, by any means.

Well, I suggest you and "significant amount of people" at least try it in the old arcades. It's fun. Otherwise, uh, since you don't even read as if you were interested in the game, what's all this yammering for? I personally wouldn't go to Cooking Mama posts to express how little I care that I don't have it available on Xbox? And I can't see any reason for one who doesn't care for such a game to write here about it, except maybe you care a little bit about it. NOT that I would judge you, of course.

I'm guessing someone at Capcom is getting a call early tomorrow, saying that Nintendo is willing to put up larger titles now that they have SD card support. If it's under 250 or so MB, they can still keep it playable, although it'll be a tight fit. They'll probably have to suggest that buyers get SD cards, so they can move their other titles off and have room.
I'd also like to see a slight increase like that for another reason: Dreamcast VC. Chu Chu Rocket, Jet Grind Radio, Seaman, Lack of Love, Ikaruga, and Rez should all be able to fit in to about 500MB.

Actually, CJLopez, that's probably true. The Wii loads Wii/Gamecube games as native, but it could be made to load dreamcast disks inside an emulator (whether built into the disk channel or as a separate channel) just as homebrew can run CD/DVDs.
While they're at it, toss in Sega Saturn and Sega CD support. Maybe even toss in 3DO, which is the only other disk based console I can think of, besides the obviously-not-going-to-happen PS1
Dammit, now there's another thing I want in a firmware update that I'm probably not getting. Alas. Being able to get rid of my Dreamcast without losing Shenmue would be magical, though.

You pretty much answered your question. Angry, bitter nintendo fanboys. You gotta look at it from their perspective though, they rarely ever get a game worth playing and they've been kicked around and spat on by Nintendo for 3 years now. Most people would be angry and bitter after taking abuse that long.

Protodude - See, the use of such agitating tactics usually grabs hold of people, such as yourself, who take such things as an inanimate object like the Wii soo personal that sometimes, it's just fun to eff with u because u actually gather up enough emotion to actually respond! If u think I'm not intelligent enough to post a better comment, it's because of your tender love for that inanimate object created by Nintendo has caused u to get all riled up since I said that the "Wii SUCKS!!"....And the sarcasm? Great touch. I like sarcasm, just like u! Hey, we were separated at birth, don'tcha think? I'ma go call mama. Brb...

Since Nintendo has but in a fix for the storage for the WII, I still don't get why they cannot increase the max sizes of WiiWare games.
I know the WIIWare will never be able to have very large downloads due the internals of the WII but 50meg is a joke, I cannot think of a XBLA game that would fit under 50meg.

Are you crazy? 150mb? the dreamcast iso is about 800 or so megabytes I haven't checked the PS2 iso.
Now if you're talking about a rip of the game, the lowest I've seen DC rips get down to is about 400mb, stripping out all the audio and cut scenes(anything that isn't core to game such as menus etc.).
So I dunno what the hell you talkin bout, 150mb they must have taken out all but 1 or 2 characters(as each of the 56 characters have about 300+ sprite frames each).
to put it into perspective, downloading a zip file of one SF3 sprites for elena is about 100 and something megabytes.

So, if you rip the DC iso is 800mb right?
Try to compress it to zip or rar and see whats the final size of the image.
Then look on google about cd isos and their real size. Better yet, Look for the ripped demo of Monster Hunter Tri. It is 480mb to download, once is uncompressed it goes up to 4.0gb.
Just as a note, the iso size of a disc is not always the real size of the content

The Dreamcast version of the game is about 164MB if you compress the ISO. It could be possible to squeeze it even further beyond that... but I still don't see a WiiWare version happening.
Even if Nintendo claims they impose no file size limits for WiiWare, they clearly have to. The system only has 512MB flash memory built-in, and a good chunk of that is taken up by system updates.
I like the Wii, but there are a lot of half-baked ideas put into it. Built-in flash is a good idea, but 512MB is incredibly tiny, and shows their lack of foresight. I think if they included at least 2GB of built-in memory, we wouldn't have this problem here. 2GB would be plenty enough for just about everyone's needs.
The SD Menu is a good idea... except the fact it doesn't actually boot the games from the SD card. It writes it to internal memory, plays it, then deletes it once you're done. That's going to severely shorten the internal memory's lifespan. I can't comment on if running the games from the SD card would be viable, due to card read/write speeds. Even Class 6 SDHCs are probably slower than internal memory.

No Marvel vs. Capcom 2 on the Wii? All right... I can live with that.
Especially if it means they'll work on developing Street Fighter IV for the Wii.
... please?
Heh, what am I talking about? I'm still working on Super Mario Galaxy. I don't really have time for more games.
Still, it'd be fun to have that option....

There's more to the story than what has been stated. "My Life As King" was over the "suggested" 40MB WiiWare limit.
I think it was Iwata who said that 40MB was just a suggested limit for dev's to follow.
