I'm so glad they're using optional filters instead of ugly redrawn sprites!

You're right, but it's probably for the better that they don't bother with an HD remix. Remember how long SSFIITHDR took? Didn't it come out the same week as SFIV in Europe, despite being not much more than a cosmetic facelift? That's an embarassment for the developers and an agonizing wait for the fans. And in the end, the sputtery original number of animation frames marginalized the redrawn HD sprites anyway. I think Capcom and fans alike will agree that not bothering with too many upgrades is the best solution, granted that Capcom spend plenty of time optimizing the netcode for such a fast-paced game.

@heypaul

This is especially true in light of the fact that MvC2has 56 characters and, thus, an unbelievably number of sprites that would have to be redrawn. If they HD Remix'd this, it would take 4 years to come out.

i was kinda baffled why the ps3 version is getting a demo but the xbox isnt then i realized something.

xbox marketplace doesnt have demos for xbla games only trials which can be upgraded to the full version. A demo wont come out on marketplace until the full version is out. but capcom can be very persuasive so it may come out regardless of the rules. (aka bionic commando size upgrade)

I agree. The smooth one looks horrible. It makes me feel like I need to rub my eyes. Much prefer the classic option.

It's not limited to these type of games either. A lot of games go crazy with anti-aliasing these days (especially on 360 it seems), and it bugs me to no end.

Games aren't made by one guy in a basement drawing all the sprites. Hell, even if they are, like Braid, they're still not that insane to do.

Smooth is way too blurry, but Crisp has potential. I'll need to see it in motion to decide whether to go with it or Classic.

Hey Capcom I presume you will likely charge about 15 ~ 20 Dlls for this game, what about redrawing all the sprites as you did with the gorgeous SF HD :)

That's would make me a happy panda!

can you wait another 2 years? I say just go 3d with it. Tatsunoko V Capcom was pretty fast paced. With some improvements, a MvC2 with 3d chars (or a 3 if it's coming) could be just as fast and look just as nice while being less taxing on the art department and dev time/costs.

@ NoughtSoClever: If it was 3d, then it wouldn't be marvel vs. capcom 2. Maybe for #3...

Capcom doesn't own the rights to produce anymore, so they can't redraw sprites, plus if they had rights and they did redraw sprites it would take a long time, considering there are 50+ characters. and many specails (much more sprites per character than sfIIthdr

I think capcom should pair with other companies and make a custom fighter like mUGEN with online capabilities and PS3/XBOX support, now that would be sweet, and extreme wishful thinking

While I love the look of SSF2THD Im actually glad Udon is not doing the graphics cause it took them what, 2 YEARS to redraw 17 characters? Dont know how long it would take them to do 56 characters in MvC2...

I figured they'd do something like that. There's not a whole lot more they can do with old, low-res sprites. I think it looks fine, but it'd be even better if they could add a scanline filter, as well.

Shouldn't they be offering bicubic filtering as an option?

They probably should use a pop count block filter as an option too. Just grab it out of SCUMMVM.

BARZARKAR BOORAAJ

Screw this, though. I don't care about production time, I'm either buying it as MVC2HD or I'm not. No point in getting a game I owned for the Xbox without a proper graphics upgrade, except maybe for the customizable soundtrack which was, in the original, utterly abysmal.

I bet you're the kind of person that walks into a store, grabs a sales clerk, and proceeds to walk him around the store pointing out everything you're not going to buy and why. No one cares that you don't care.

Offtopic, though, maybe they should add Apocalypse, Onslaught, Mecha Gouki and Norimaro.
