Poor Games For Windows Live. The branding and service have been so neglected that it actually gives us a little spring in our step to see someone embracing it, like the way we like to hear about Brad Pitt buying mosquito nets for poor countries.
Its latest benefactor is Street Fighter IV on the PC, which will use the service to provide multiplayer and Achievements when it arrives on home computers this summer. Out of curiosity, have any of you been waiting for a PC release to polish up your Tiger Uppercut?

I really dont see this selling all that well.
Fighting games+PC+months after the console release doesn't sound like its going to have a real community if it even has one at all

I dont discount the fighting game community with GGPO and MAME and all that
however, I dont see a whole lot of interest from those same fans buying a PC fighting game that most people (who wanted to play it) dont already have for a home console

Didn't know PC had achievements.I don't understand thought why it takes longer for the PC to receive these games;shouldn't it launch with the console versions.

Resident Evil 5 will also be coming to the PC, dunno why that also didn't launch the same time as the console versions. I guess they needed more time for optimizations and getting it to work with all the PC hardware out there vs. one standardized console platform.

I don't own any console (besides Playstation and GBA ;)) but I do have arcade stick and love fighting games. I think this will sell relatively well thanks to retro gaming community based around emulation scene as these people are likely to have right controllers.

It is interesting that Capcom is porting this to the PC, fighting games are the last thing you expect to see on the platform and their not much fun to play on a desk unless you have your PC hooked up to your TV.
Hopefully with Games for Windows LIVE, we can also play against Xbox 360 owners as well, there are only a couple of games with cross-multiplayer currently, I know of Lost Planet and Shadowrun : (

Awww man...the last GFWL game that I tried to play was Shadowrun and damn live wouldn't let it install at all. I kept trying and nothing. I hope this isn't the same way as I really wanted to get this....

I initially had the same problems with Dawn of War II; no matter what, GFWL absolutely refused to work and I was relegated to staring at the start menu. At first, I was beyond pissed; I didn't pay $50 for a game I can't resell only to have what should be an optional program prevent me from playing it. After doing a little research, I found out that GFWL needs a couple of ports open in order to connect to the internet (and subsequently be able to run) and that, by default, most firewalls have them blocked. After 30 seconds of work, my problem was solved completely.

So Capcom says we can't have fighting games on the Wii because the controller's no good for it, but all you mouse and keyboard junkies get SFIV? Thanks. Thanks a bunch Capcom.
“(On Street Fighter IV for Wii) In theory, with reasonable downgrades in visual quality including resolution reduction, yes [game could be possible on Wii]. I will still raise the question: what’s the input mechanism for a Wiimote + nunchuck (which is what 100% of the installed base has) on a Street Fighter title?” - Christian Svensson, Corporate Officer/VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development

The MAME community is somewhat large and consequently, there are far more arcade controllers options available for PC's than there are for consoles, actually.

The arcade machine which runs SFVI is basically a PC so porting it to that platform is not a great risk, because it's running there already (you just have to add more compatibility)
A potential Wii-version would have to be coded from the get-go. You can't even take your existing models, because the wii couldn't handle them...
BTW - a real high-quality keyboard like those from cherry with gold cross point contacts is VERY accurate. In fighing games my keyboard is superior to my gamepad (Dual Shock 3 with costum drivers) when I play beat'em'ups on emulators.

Therefore making a PC port is sensible and economically proven, and a Wii port is unjustified and illogical. The controllers commonly available to PC gamers are applicable to fighting games where those available to Wii gamers are not, and the market for fighting games and the financial case for porting is established on the PC where on the Wii ports/re-releases and fighting games have resulted in failure.

Sven confirmed over at Capcom Unity that there is no cross platform play.
To which I say, oh well... Still picking this up. Online, achievements, and DLC for the PC version NEEDS to supported and encouraged so those who do embrace it can DO IT RIGHT. I expect Capcom to do it right.
As for the article, just remember that the GFWL community has a game event night several nights a week, so when SF IV PC hits, you can join up and get pounded on by the ever growing forum community.
GFWL - There must be mosquito netting costumes for Chun Li and Cammy now.

You have to download some drivers/software for it from microsoft's website, but it should work fine.

My roommate have been waiting for this since we started building our arcade machine last summer. Of course, we've been practicing on a console, but nothing tops old-school play-while-standing-up fun.

I plan on picking this up for PC because I have a MAME control panel that should work well with it. I've had mixed results with GFWL in the past, but at least I'll be able to get some cheevies.

Except for when a large number of customers during beta were unable to play the game thanks to GFWL.

Being an avid Street Fighter fan since the ssf2t days of the snes, and owning both a 360 and a modern PC, I've delayed my embrace of IV until the PC version comes out due to the better eyecandy I'll get playing at true HD 1920*1080..
SSF2tHD for 360 has held me over for now..

How much money has MS stuffed in ur g-string capcom ? Lost Planet 2 for xbox360 -timed exlcusive, ssf2hd remix demo, and now this. Luckily Ps3 owners get a timed exclusive for mvc2 demo. ..probably 2 days.
Let's not even go into the retarded championship mode differences for ps3 and xbox360. downloadable replays for xbox360 and crappy movie ratings for ps3...

PC Gamers like myself hate consoles. I have been waiting for this game and to find out it's a live game is even more awesome. The PC is KING, long live the PC.
I will be buying at least 2 copies.

it's unfortunate that capcom decided to hold onto the pc port for so long.. it will almost certainly affect the number of units that are moved on the PC. My guess is that capcom realized that it's an easy port from 360 to PC since the codebase is virtually identical, so they're waiting until just about everybody has it and then throwing PC gamers a bone when the dust has settled. Either way it doesn't cost them much to port it over, and they still pick up some chump change to throw on the pile.
Ultimately I'll bet that they blame weak PC sales on piracy too.

I don't see why people would pirate this when the main point is to play vs others. Lord knows playing on a PC with multiple people isn't fun, so the main attraction will be online multiplayer. In that regard, you will need a proper CD-Key and such and so people will need to buy the legit version to play online.

most people who pirate online games usually do virtualized servers as well, such as hamachi. they lose access to the larger community, but they can still technically play online
