No, the lingering rumors of a
new PSP haven't been confirmed, merely
joined by another rumor. According to
1UP's "sources," the PSP is going to get a lot more exciting this E3, with the unveiling of a new hardware design (and an exclamation point!) In both a news story and the
at1UP podcast (reportedly -- if it was there, the podcast has since been edited to remove it), the site describes a new PSP called the PSP Go!, which loses the UMD drive and adds a fancy sliding screen. The system will come in two variants: one with 8GB of internal memory, and one with 16GB.
1UP says that "over 100 classic and new PSP titles" will be available for download at the system's launch -- including
Gran Turismo Mobile, which instantly makes this rumor harder to believe. The PSP Go! will purportedly Go! to stores in Japan this September, with a North American release to follow "in either late October or early November."

yeah... no. they could have tried way harder to make up something. gran turismo mobile? seriously? *rolls eyes*
today has had a lot of news for psp though.
iluvmyzune @ Apr 28th 2009 11:49PM
it needs two analog sticks!!!
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:51PM
this is true.
TakeCTRL @ Apr 29th 2009 1:19AM
GT5 isn't even out yet...
amish.gramish @ Apr 29th 2009 2:14AM
Yeah, I was thinking this was plausible, until Gran Turismo Mobile.
Not gonna happen.
Duke @ Apr 29th 2009 10:12AM
The gran turismo part does come off has pretty hard to believe. More hard to believe than the idea of a new psp! Yet, the rest of the idea of this PSP variant sounds really good. If they made a slider model it would likely get them a lot more sales - hell, I might buy that updated version. Of course, they control sticks still need to be figured out.
tyetheczar @ Apr 29th 2009 3:02PM
@iluvmyzune
Right-o!
wallywallas @ Apr 30th 2009 4:16AM
Gran Turismo oozes E3 Sony Press Conference circa 2005. "It's Gran Turismo... GRAN TURISMO!"
When will the PSP get a second analog stick? WHEN?!
ice~ @ Apr 28th 2009 11:06PM
Yea okay
Zerokku @ Apr 28th 2009 11:07PM
The collector in me is uncomfortable with the idea of full-on digital distribution. But I know I'm in the minority there =/
Either way I have a feeling this is close to legit. I imagine we'll be seeing something like this at E3, since sony's been making comments about this kind of concept for awhile, as well as testing the waters with DD-only releases like patapon 2.
HappyFunBall @ Apr 28th 2009 11:17PM
I'm sure the people who buy/trade used games are also uncomfortable with digital distribution.
Count me among the people who likes having tangible discs/carts and enjoys the experience of taking the plastic wrapper off a sealed game and the whole "stuff" experience. DD deprives me of that.
Premature ejaculation man @ Apr 28th 2009 11:49PM
I don't really sell my games after I've finished with them. Though I tend to lend them to other people.
The problem I have is that it ruins the option, the thought of ever doing anything like that ever. That's what I don't support about it.
If they give the option of, say, putting it on a memory card and being able to lend it to someone else, then I am more open towards it because at least it has options....Though I know that will never happen as it can mean less sales or some crap or piracy I don't know.
Hashbrown Hunter @ Apr 29th 2009 8:15AM
This should be legit. 1UP wouldn't run it if they thought it was a sham. The writers there are waaaaay too serious about gaming to lie about something THIS big.
tmmoore_nc @ Apr 28th 2009 11:07PM
That's a really ugly mock-up
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:13PM
yeah, i've seen much better slider mockups.
tkAshur @ Apr 28th 2009 11:30PM
Amen.

^this.
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:37PM
@ Astral
that's what i was refering to. thanks for finding a pic. but that's an awkward angle. there were better pics of it, i'm just too lazy to look.
BryanVP @ Apr 28th 2009 11:08PM
They should put like vending machines at retail stores and go all digital. And people can buy games from that machine and they can insert their old UMDs and the machine eats it and adds the PSP games to your PSN account for direct downloading.
Popfrogs @ Apr 29th 2009 1:42AM
Or like a WSUS-type of server, it could have a high speed connection to the internet and download all the games overnight. Then you walk up to the kiosk, plug in your PSP and it copies what you buy over to it.
Draco @ Apr 29th 2009 10:08AM
That's a brilliant Idea. They should do that with PS3 games too.
aacman007 @ Apr 28th 2009 11:09PM
Make PSP successful, then make PSP2.
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 28th 2009 11:10PM
You don't think 50+ million is successful? So then the Wii IS a failure after all!
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:12PM
no, he means the lack of games.
oh wait...
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 28th 2009 11:14PM
Ah, well in that case he must live in Iowa cause his comment is a year behind everyone else's.
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:18PM
[-]!!!!
Markez @ Apr 28th 2009 11:25PM
Jesus, kudos on the Iowa burn. I don't know if you care, but you're really, really cranking things up on the "I'm just a troll, don't bother trying to rationally discuss anything with me, it's pointless" meter.
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 28th 2009 11:38PM
No I don't care, but I am curious as to why you're saying that here. That was a pretty unprovoked attack.
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:38PM
markez, are you talking to aacman007, tmac, pedojokerbear, or me?
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:44PM
err... never mind.
Markez @ Apr 29th 2009 12:21AM
Eh, sorry, can't help it. Sorry for coming off as unprovoked and attacking. I wouldn't bother at all if I didn't feel you were better than this, as I stated in a comment I misreplied/misfired on earlier in another thread.
It just seems as of late the only comments I see out of you are Nintendo trolling, going out of your way to say "ha yeah nintendo sucks!" at every chance you get. Gets old. I just don't understand the glee out of seeing some perceived shortcoming in a plastic box.
doc j @ Apr 29th 2009 6:20AM
@tracymcgrady
I'm from Iowa and on behalf of my recently certified-progressive state I say: why the hate, ya big jerk? Iowa is boring, but we're not retarded.
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 29th 2009 9:14AM
Relax, I was using a modified version of a south park joke. The episode where they discover the guy from 1996 frozen and send him to iowa because they're a few years behind everyone else.
PedoJokerBear (aka Deeznuts) @ Apr 29th 2009 1:50PM
i just got kamikaze downvoted huh
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 28th 2009 11:09PM
Yeah...even if it's true I'll pass on that. I'll stick with my perfectly fine (and moddable) slim.
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:11PM
agreed 100%. my CFW slim makes me very, very happy.
Cody @ Apr 28th 2009 11:34PM
Yeah.....
Or the DSi, which shits fairly well on any and all competition.
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 28th 2009 11:36PM
You're not baiting me with something that easy to see.
DangerMouse @ Apr 28th 2009 11:49PM
I have a phat, and all i've been playing on it lately is street fighter. But playing SF and trying to pull of moves is such a pain in the ass. My big hands get all cramped, attempting to maneuver the D-pad while trying to maintain a good grip. I'm waiting to see what the redesign looks like (if their really is one ;)) before i think about getting another one. And the nub's location is even more worthless for me, no matter what game i'm playing.
They just need to stop slacking off with the PSOne games releases. I love the fact that they both work on the PS3 & PSP, and just recently finding out how to transfer save files between the two makes them look even more interesting.
Orex @ Apr 28th 2009 11:12PM
meh, i was fine reading this untill i saw GT moibile :/ Well lets all just wait till E3, i mean chances are its just gona be anothe entry into the thousands-series.
cafecito @ Apr 28th 2009 11:12PM
How do they expect us to press those shoulder buttons? Bad, bad design.
jeff @ Apr 28th 2009 11:14PM
its a mock up
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:14PM
'Not real! 1UP mockup!'
right under the pic.
cafecito @ Apr 28th 2009 11:30PM
Oh, OK. My bad.
HappyFunBall @ Apr 28th 2009 11:36PM
What? You don't have freakishly long fingers?
ill trooper @ Apr 29th 2009 4:27AM
You were right with your original post, cafecito: Mock-up or not, that's bad design. The shoulder buttons would likely be on the non-sliding back part, and thus hidden from view in a photo like this.
oxalate47 @ Apr 28th 2009 11:13PM
yeah, that's definitely a mock up cause the L and R triggers are on the screen side, when it should be in the d-pad side. hopefully, they would improve the speakers, another analog, web browser, internet and an SSD card reader. good day for psp's today.
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:15PM
the lack of wireless N and the crappy browser irritate me a lot. and an sd card reader would be virtual suicide for sony.
oxalate47 @ Apr 28th 2009 11:21PM
the ps3 had sd card reader
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 28th 2009 11:40PM
but i'm pretty sure it hasn't been hacked yet. psp has. that basically would make it easier and cheaper for pirates to pirate.
