Wii now widely available to UK retailers

However, allocation still plays into Wii orders in a way. Koch's Craig McNicol told MCV, "We also urge customers to remember that Wii console purchases count towards the allocation of DSi, Wii Fit and forthcoming new releases."
If you haven't bought a Wii yet and you're planning to, it might be a good time. Though Nintendo has increased the cost of the system to retailers, it's currently still possible for stores to get them at the original cost. "We haven't put our prices up yet as we're still able to access stock sourced at the original value," Chips' Don McCabe said. "However, this supply is drying up, so we'll have to see what happens with the extra cost."
The biggest takeaway for us? There's a community for independent retailers of Nintendo.

I call BS. I had no problems getting a Wii almost 2 years ago and none of my friends had problems picking one up ever since. The same goes for DSi, Wii Fit, DSL, PS3, XB360 and any other thing bought in the "sought for" period.
Never had problems with getting games/hardware in the UK.
I guess it's one of those "look-how-popular-this-item-is" techniques to get people to buy one. Because you know... ONLY ONE LEFT!.

How DARE you imply that the WSM is not the most sought after superduper greatestist most awesmomist videogame system EVARRRRRRR and the Illusion of the scarcity of it in every region except the United States?
Hey boys and girls remember me? Remember how I said over and over that the WSM FAD will last about 2 years and start declining?
The WSM is still selling at a very quick pace, but it is now available everywhere I go...and the demand is decreasing from the lemmings on a daily basis even in the United States.
On an unrelated note, remember how I also said that the PS3 would start to show her TRUE power and really come into her own in that same 2 year period?

Oh great, now I attracted a troll.
Should I use my Master Ball?
mazza_man @ Apr 28th 2009 10:44AM
No, it's not worth it. A Great Ball should suffice for this weak one.
Rallor @ Apr 28th 2009 10:46AM
WTF is a WSM?
Ignatius @ Apr 28th 2009 10:51AM
To save the troll a need to reply, his little term for the Wii is the WSM, Wii Sports Machine.
Still, I find it asinine that Nintendo actually raised the price of the console... whatever though.

Bravo Ignatius, now lets see if you can guess this one.

The troll has even gone anthropomorphic with the PS3. Hahaha, "her." Why do I get the feeling he's been caught with the PS3 in his pants?

Question, how is this any different than what Nintendo did when they released TEN YEAR OLD hardware with a gimped motion controller for $250?

I'm posting this as a reply just so all the comments in this thread are still replies
The stage is slowly being set for action on Nintendo's part, now that availability becomes less of an issue and demand flags in Japan (though reportedly back up this past week with the Monster Hunter G port), and we will soon see them do something quite epic

I bought my Wii in January 2008 and there was most definitely a shortage in London.
None of the big name stores held them and there were web sites dedicated to helping you track down when some did arrive in store. I'd been trying to get hold of one for a couple of months. In the end I managed to get one from an unknown toy store out in zone 5 which was in the middle of a grotty council estate.
Back to the story, in the customers eyes there hasn't really been a shortage of Wii's for over 6 months - possibly even a year. Sure, shops were getting them on allocation - but you could walk into any Game, HMV, Zavvi, Blockbuster, John Lewis, Currys, PC World or other big name store and pick one up easily.
Hell, you could even get Super Mario Kart and a spare wiimote dropped in for free (or only a couple of pounds more) at one point. I remember thinking that it was unusual not to bundle shovelware with a pack like that.

I recently picked up a Wii (as a present- I got mine launch day) for £20 below the recommended retail price.
I have seen them at this price in many places for a while.
The Wii has been freely available for some time. I think the fizz has gone out of this bottle, I still love my Wii but its lost its mystique to my PS3.
