Despite swine flu fears, E3 progressing as planned

"The 2009 E3 Expo is progressing as planned. Public health officials are taking all appropriate steps and we continue to follow their direction on all measures," said ESA spokesman Dan Hewitt. "We look forward to a great event, and to seeing you in Los Angeles in June."
That's fine, Dan, be the very picture of calm. We're going to continue lining our windows with plastic wrap, if it's all the same to you.

They say that now. But do they know that a Texan toddler just died of it? DOTHEYKNOWTHATINFORMATION!?!?!
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 29th 2009 10:57AM
I think it was actually a mexican kid that was brought over for better treatment, so I personally don't think that really counts as the first US death.
But let me extend a big good going to mexico as a whole. You guys have just been really useful to us the last few years, with all the drug wars, illegal immigrants, and now swine flu.
Punishment4Gluttons @ Apr 29th 2009 10:57AM

@ The Baron:
And the irony is that there are some rumors going around that the Swine Flu came out of a US owned Pig farm in Mexico. At least according to CNN.
BananaBoat @ Apr 29th 2009 11:42AM
@Cyro - I heard on twitter that Swine Flu doesn't even have any relation to pigs in any way shape or form, and that no one really knows why it was named Swine Flu. Twitter seems like a reputable source of information, so I'm going to keep eating pork without worrying about it.
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 29th 2009 11:43AM
Hey guys this is serious. I work in the Houston Med Center right by where the baby died.
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 29th 2009 11:44AM
Wrong, bannana. But yeah you can still keep eating pork.
Night Elve @ Apr 29th 2009 12:15PM
@tmacairjordan87
Really? Let me explain that for you in case your little brain can't handle too much information.
1. Swine Flu comes from a Eurasian strain, it was not originated on Mexico.
2. Drugs If you guys didn't consume all that fucking drugs, we would not have any problem at all from this side, or do you think we are the ones we consume that drugs.
Yeah vote me down all you want, I'm tired and sick of people complaining about how the Swine Flu is Mexico fault when is not, we are doing our best to stop this infection.
el serpiente @ Apr 29th 2009 1:22PM
But let me extend a big good going to the United States as a whole. You guys have just been really useful to us the last few years, with all the massive consumption of illegal drugs, refusal to ban assault weapons, and now destruction of the world economy.
Let's not let this outbreak be fodder for more anti-mexican rhetoric. Cut that shit out.
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Apr 29th 2009 1:35PM
@ el serpiente
Assault weapons and grenades are illegal in the U.S. Here's a question for you.
I am a drug dealer.
I can buy a semi-automatic AR-15 in the U.S. for about $1000 right now (less if you want to wait or are lucky), or
I can buy a fully automatic AK-47 from south of Mexico for about $50, or
I can get a free M4 from all the police officers and Mexican army troops that are deserting.
Keep punching at that straw man. You'll knock him down soon enough. And don't even bother with that 90% bullshit. It's not true.
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Apr 29th 2009 1:36PM
Feh, I forgot the question. Which one of those would you choose? Do you see why it doesn't make much sense to blame the U.S. for the gun problem?
el serpiente @ Apr 29th 2009 2:20PM
Stabbingworth,
-Assault weapon ban (defined as "firearms that had been developed from earlier fully-automatic firearms into semi-automatic civilian-legal versions.") was allowed to expire in 2004. They are legal. WRONG.
-"I can get a free M4 from all the police officers and Mexican army troops that are deserting." Seriously? You went there? Because a) there isn't any proof that this is actually happening b) even if it did, it would not be enough to supply the raw quantities needed to arm the traffickers. Sounds like a talking point from the Minutemen newsletter to me.
Your entire post is a straw man. You can cover your ears and blame Mexico all you want and fabricate these "facts". But the reality is that it is a shared problem between the two countries. Without consumption, there is no need for production.
What I do wish is that Mexico had the balls to give the US the finger and legalize drugs. But then the US keeps on throwing billions of dollars in money and equipment at the government to perpetuate this stupid war with no end.
Enough about this, back to video games.

To me, you'll always be known as el burlap sacko
Dr. Stabbingworth @ Apr 29th 2009 2:30PM
You can't buy a fully-automatic weapon in the U.S. without jumping huge hurdles. Why would anyone buy a $1000 semi-automatic vs a $50 fully automatic? Just because I don't believe politically motivated statements doesn't mean I'm covering my ears. And I never blamed Mexico for anything.
You want to blame the U.S. for drug consumption? Fine. But blaming us for the weapons makes no sense. And I'm sorry if Mexico can't deal with it, but that's no reason to restrict rights of citizens in the U.S.

The Baron @ Apr 29th 2009 11:07AM
Exactly. If we were to call off everything that involves meeting of people face to face on the basis that one might give swine flu to the other, then the entire economy would collapse (even more so).

I think the media is tired of running all the "dismal economy" analysis that they're desperate to find anything to report on. This came along and it fills the niche nicely. They're a business and have to keep up the revenue, they want you to stick around for the ads.
ShadowflareXIII @ Apr 29th 2009 11:07AM
If it did spread, I highly doubt its going to kill anyone.
No offense to Mexico, but that country is not known for their medical standards. Maybe this will wake them up to how bad the treatments are there.
Not that the US can talk though considering health/insurance coverage.
And don't troll because I worked in that field and left it due to stuff I can't and don't want to talk about.

Well are they *really* going to just cancel E3? A lot of money is on the line here. People do stupid things for money. Now, me, I'm actually in the crowd that believes the swine flu to be entirely overblown by the media. Sure, its something major we should be keeping our eyes on, but it isn't panic time yet, people.
