According to teh Guardian, on average, 25,000 people die from the flu and winter freeze each and every winter. Who are these people? Why, the elderly, of course. But nobody cares about the elderly as they've clearly overstayed their welcome. No fuss, no muss. Let's ignore the real tragedy our society has created.

I really wish George Carlin was alive to see us through Swine Flu '09. *sigh*.

Swine Flu = overblown PoS

if E3 changed just a slightest bit because of it, i would... be very angry, and write them an angry letter to explain how angry i am.

Convention + airborne virus = not good. Doesn't anyone read their Tom Clancy anymore?

Of course it's airborne, communicated by droplets of saliva or mucus which are passed by coughing and sneezing. Why do you think would people be wearing masks to prevent its spread?

By the way, I was kidding about the doom and gloom bit. Tom Clancy's Executive Orders involves the spread of an airborne strain of ebola (definitely fictional there) at a convention center.

It would appear that factory farming may be the most likely cause of the current outbreak (just as it was for the avian flu several years ago). For more see Priming the Pump of a Swine Flu Epidemic at Nature Network.

Swine Flu is not a serious threat to most people. Infants, who aren't allowed at E3, and elderly, who aren't nearly as likely to go, are in more danger. The average 18-45 year old can handle it just fine, unless s/he has a compromised immune system.

Furthermore, by practicing basic sanitation guidelines (wash hands frequently, don't touch face unless you've just washed your hands), and by doing a bit less handshaking than they might be used to, it should be pretty easy to avoid contracting it.
