After rumors began circulating that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of The Witcher had been canceled, Shacknews reports that development on the game has been suspended due to "financial issues." Specifically, co-developer Widescreen Games alleges that CD Projekt failed to make a large payment to the company. This comes by way of Widescreen Games director Olivier Masclef, who stated, "After having committed to the project but not being covered financially on it for three months, I [had] no choice."
CD Projekt's joint CEO Michal Kicinski, meanwhile, states that all payments were made according to the game's milestone plan and that the late payments were the result of Widescreen missing its deadlines. Kicinski adds that the decision to put development on hold was "extremely difficult" and that the company is searching for a solution. He concludes, "So no matter what the final decision or solution we will find, please be sure that it will be the best for the game quality, and satisfaction of gamers, which is the most important for us!"
Whatever the real story is, the end result is that The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf is currently dead in the water.

I just couldn't get past the quest system. I did appreciate the decisions you make having large, noticeable impacts on the plot, but some of the quests were just convoluted or impossible to figure out.
I always sucked at point and click adventures though, so maybe it's that coming through.

Are you waiting for Diablo III to buy a PC?
http://store.steampowered.com/app/20900/ - And it's cheaper on Amazon (with a lot of awesome kitsch!)

That link came up Site Error for me but i will say this. Titan Quest Gold on Steam is $14.99 and i've sunk over 300 hours into that magnificent Diablo-clone. It's big, beautiful, lengthy, challenging and has all the right things to make it AT LEAST as addictive and excellent as Diablo 2 (why it didnt get the same following i'll never know).

Yeah, this really sucks that a great game is not coming to consoles because of money issues. Yeesh. Granted, it would have been competing with Dragon Age:Origins and Alpha Protocol when it was supposed to come out, so it wasn't a guaranteed hit. (Maybe I should just buy a PC...)

You should definitely buy a PC. I bought my first gaming PC in October of last year (after being a console gamer for the first 20.5 years of my life) and I doubt I'll ever look back. Not to open an enormous can of worms in the gaming community, but FPS games are infinitely more fun with a keyboard and mouse.

Same, i was always a console gamer. Still am of course, love with Wii like my 3rd child, but the PC has dominated more of my play-time this year than the Wii has (not by a lot). I blame my new-found addiction to Steam and it's DD. Buying games on Steam is cheaper than retail from the shelves here in Australia. When UT3 was on special on Steam, i payed like AUS$32 for it, then saw it for the normal retail price of $99.95 the next day.

Dear lord you Aussies pay a lot of money for video games. UT3 retails for like $12 here in the States.
But yeah, I'm hopelessly addicted to Steam's deals. I got the Orange Box for $9.99 (even though I bought it when it came out for the 360) and I've been playing Team Fortress 2 for like 4 hours a day ever since.

I hope they get it back on track. I'd imagine that it'd be more income for less outlay than Witcher 2. So that income might come in handy with witcher 2.
Hopefully with GOG and their translation projects they'll get enough cash in to restart production.
