How do the controls feel? The game looks like the aiming might be as stiff as Far Cry 2, which was the one aspect that stopped me from playing it. I might have to go for that PS2 trade-in deal and get me a PS3 for this game...

How could you possibly tell from looking the screen shots? I am not being snarky, but genuinely asking this question.

I dunno. It's just an odd feeling I have, the character's arms look sorta stiff, and I can imagine it being a bit weird.

"Controls are immediately accessible to any veteran FPS player (though our recent obsession with Resistance 2 co-op meant we kept accidentally pulling out grenades instead of running). The Zipper employee walking us through the map also mentioned that the team plans on having fully customizable controls -- so even if you really, really want to Killzone-up your controls, you can. The game is very responsive, and targeting enemy soldiers quickly and accurately felt great. No learning curve here."

Seriously, there are words up there - try reading them!

Oh great, another FPS. Just what Sony needs to break the mould.

Who would want to try and 1up the amazing MP experience of Warhawk, when we can clusterfuck another KZ2 instead? HOORAY!

Yeah, because making more games in the most popular genre of online gaming is clearly a poor choice.

I don't know what you're talking about, dude. I don't even have a PS3 but this could make me get one.

And last I checked, 360 sort of ruled the roost as far as FPS goes, so any high-profile Sony FPS is good for them. Killzone was an awesome start, but MAG will probably be the deal maker for a lot of gamers.

You don't know what you're talking about. Xbox rules the roost because XBL makes the EXPERIENCE better. PS3 has every FPS Xbox has but Halo, but PS3 has Resistance.

Between KZ2 and Resistance, PS3 is the leading console in FPS games, but none of Sony's studios have been able to make those games into memorable experiences because their inconsistent or flat out incompetent. Perfect example: Killzone 2 MP.. what a clusterfuck.

Even if Zipper gets it right, it will only mean "Yay ANOTHER f'in FPS, finally with a social-networking experience that rivals the XBL experience"

Zipper can't be blamed for the faults of every developer before them, but I do fault them for defaulting to a lame overused format.

koehler83 - Sometimes its better to stic with a genre you know will sell, if you don't already have a mass game brand name like Halo, it makes sense to just upgrade on what is already available in some way or form. Devs are already spending tons on making games, so its a make or break situation and its already hard to expand on an already distinguished genre, we've had cover, duel weapons, bullet time, speed up time, stop time, and every other type of upgrade you can think of, so taking a step out of that is a hard one.

Zipper is known for making military games, as much as I would love to see them try something new, a racing game or platformer, would it really turn out as well as a Socom? I too am kind of fed up with how games have become, both consoles (no matter which has more) have an endless stream of very unoriginal games, even the Wii games are becoming unoriginal, but there is little we can do about it, because when one does come along (LBP, Braid etc) people prefer to buy the unorginal games (Halo, Gears, Resistance) over the original ones, so what can a developer do, I'd just do what will make me money if I was a dev, same goes for movies.

I'm wondering the same thing about Killzone 2. The multiplayer has been a blast with the exception of players that have ranked up but still have no clue what the objectives are.

So, does that mean that no other MP games should be created? Also, wouldn't you want a game that's better then Warhawk?

Were you born this retarded or did something happen to you growing up?

I dunno man, 16 player games start to fall apart when only a few of them decide to be f-tards. Can you imagine if you are in a server when 179 guys decide to be douches?

Dunno.

that's why this game is going to be horrible with huge numbers of players. It's hard enough to find pubs where 10v10 games are organized.

My concern too. Halo Big Team Battle is really fun...when you get a decent group of players. Which happens like once every 2 hrs. And that is only an 8v8. Im still not feeling this is going to work as well as they are saying, but if it does, this plus Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 might make me get a ps3.

Yeah, I remain skeptical. Not only is it hard to find a decent amount of quality players online, I can imagine finding 256 players at any given moment could equate to longer matchmaking waits than Gears 2.

I personally don't see what the issue would be, it's more or less a larger version of Warhawk.

You have your immidiate team or clan, much like you would in World of warcraft, and once you have them, you won't need anyone else, your small team will make the difference as to whether your entire army of 128 wins the battle or not. The Army is made up of several teams, and yeah, every game has thier douches, but what do you do, ignore them, you have an army of 128, I'm pretty sure the entire army won't be made up of douches, and even if it is, like it says above, they can run off and do thier own thing if they want, they just have less options, thats all.

Basically, once you trust and are friendly with the people in your immidiate team / clan, that will be the only thing that matters, if they want to be a douche, kick them out your clan, why are they in your team?

I actually think huge teams has the potential to buffer the effects of a few idiots. Of course, I could be completely wrong and it will be mass chaos. The devs just need so to make sure that the objectives are clear to each group. If it works it could be an amazing experience.

I don't think I know a game that is douche-less, so should I simply avoid all games or just play offline? If the douches are main concern over more important things like framerates, lagging, mass chaos etc, then you have your priorities all muddled.

The Game Informer hands on was similar to this one and praised the game for it's ability to have team based objectives. I understand the skepticism but from everything I have read this game exceeds expectations in every way possible.

You guys also have to consider there are smaller battles as well. You can do 64 vs 64, 16 vs 16 etc etc. Not every match has to be the full 256 player matches. There are also different modes like the extraction mode, deathmatch, saboteur etc etc. Perhaps the coolest thing is that once you pick a faction it's like a giant team where you do try and gain control of key points within the world and key technologies. It's truly something different in the genre that is trying to innovate. That certainly deserves some applause :applauds:. All we can really do is hope that it delivers the experience it's capable of and that it takes off and has a vibrant online community. Thats key because there is no single player experience to be had from a campaign perspective.

This game has just bumped itself to my most anticipated game of this year and possibly of this generation. It's going to be such an awesome year for the PS3 with whats already released (KZ2, RE:5, MLB 09 The Show) and whats coming (FF13, GoW3, InFamous, Uncharted 2, W.KnightCron, UFC 2009, MAG, DemonSouls, NGS2) later in the year and early next year.

If we can all exclude the hyperbole and look at things from a strict content perspective we can see it's a great time to own a PS3 & PSP. Forget the "Year Of" BS and the hardware sales stuff. Strictly from the perspective of a consumer there has never been a better time to own these two machines. This has nothing to do with the other consoles and their own titles. This is just whats right in front of us here and now in '09 and early '10. If all this great content lives up to expectations and Sony can deliver and strategic price reduction or incentivize potential purchasers the PS3 really has a chance to add to it's user base. At this point it would seem the only thing thats keeping that from being reality is it's introductory price in a time of economic uncertainty.

Hopefully it will be like mass effect, with the ability to take it off. Although I still cannot fathom why someone would WANT it to look grainy, and why its even an option, much less the default, in an increasing number of games.
