Hey, look. It's Splinter Cell Conviction. Where have you been? Ah, still not ready to talk about that, huh? Well it sounds like you're due by this Christmas, according to Ubisoft's latest quarterly report. The report includes the company's CEO, Yves Guillemot, hyping "this Christmas" as the one to offer "one of the industry's most ambitious games line-ups which will include Assassin's Creed 2, James Cameron's Avatar, Splinter Cell Conviction, Rabbids Go Home and Red Steel 2."
If true, we'll no doubt be hearing a lot more about Sam Fisher's latest adventure at some point within the next eight months. With no Ubidays happening this year, we're counting on a big reveal at E3 -- and about time, too.

of course a Q4 release, who would have thought differently.

Yeah, I wish they'd try things a little different for once and actually spread their line-up a bit more over different seasons. Instead we're inundated with a million top level games between October and December, and left with a drought from Spring through Summer (relatively). Then they wonder why their games didn't do so well when consumers don't have the time or money to buy 20 games at a time. For example, I probably would have bought silent hill: homecoming or Saints Row 2 if they had come out during a less crowded period of time.

This game still exists? I assumed they had stopped development seeing as I had heard absolutly nothing for ages.
I'll believe the lil birdy spreading news when he drops it in my hands.

Assassin's Creed ruled. And what you said is wrong. It was because next to Assassin's creed, Conviction looked poor...
But I'm open to being proven wrong as its my recollection against yours =p

Were you not paying attention? or not old enough? the events of Double Agent make Sam Fisher a fugitive/rogue agent - so your on the run from your employers (the NSA - if I remember rightly)..
as for 70.. he was more like mid 40's.. Snake is the '70 year old'...

no your thinking of Solid Snake which he was 100 with a walking cane. Sam where the hell have you been ive been waiting for this damn game since the end of Double AGENT and i believe sam fisher is like 40 or mid 40's but he had all that stress in his life in double agent which was the reason for the somewhat grey hair.

Why are they releasing so many of their big games together? Assassins Creed 2 will be all I can afford from their line-up at that point. What about some summer time love Ubi?

Probably won't find out until E3. My guess is timed exclusive for Xbox 360, just because this has been in the pipes for ages and the first mention of it occurred at the time when Microsoft was throwing money left and right at developers.
Ubisoft would only be losing money by not allowing it to go Playstation-side.

who cares even if it is NUbi soft is dead (with the exception of Assassins 2) and it will come out on steam anyway, along with lost planet 2 and every other 360 "exclusive"

Chaos Theory is one of the very few hyper-realistic western games I love, it was nearly perfect IMHO. As long as Ubisoft Shanghai has absolutely no input in this game, I'll be picking Conviction up if it does come this year.

I agree. While I never liked the stories in the Splinter Cell Games (Tom Clancy durr), Sam Fisher was just a badass protagonist to play with.
I remember playing the first part on PC, loved how realistic it was and how it really required you to remain unseen. That's what always bugged me about MGS, it was not sneaky enough, you just ran around like pacman avoiding guards between containers.

So long as it's nothing like the abomination that was Double Agent it should be decent at the very least. I'm not convinced this game is going to be good, though. If I were to hedge my bets it would be that Assassins Creed 2 turns out to be the only great game out of the bunch.
LOL @ MGS not being sneaky enough. The game that *created* the stealth genre isn't sneaky enough ... sigh

YES! Chaos Theory was great. The only thing I think the Splinter Cell games have always suffered from is a clunky and unintuitive control scheme. I think if they can simplify the controls or come up with a more fluid feeling control system, I think they will have another winner on their hands. I don't play Splinter Cell games for their stories, so I could care less what the wrapper for the game is. Just make it play like buddah.

The game you are looking for is Alpha Protocol. That seems more like Jack Bauer doing whatever the hell he wants whenever he wants.

I remember back when the developer for this game said PS3 wasn't capable of handling its AI. I wonder if he's changed his tune since then.

I LOVE the MGS series with a passion, but Splinter Cell has always had the upper hand in the stealth department. In MGS you can go in guns-a-blazing and still come out on top. Try that in Splinter Cell and you WILL get your ass handed to you.
That said I still think MGS>>Splinter Cell
Mostly because Solid Snake is one of the greatest protagonist in gaming history.

For me, that's the problem with Splinter Cell. Once the alarms go off it's pretty much game over which is lame. I only played the first one though.

I loved how this was looking before it was massively delayed. I haven't really played any of the previous games, but the new direction this one was going in with the urban environment, having to blend into the crowds and so forth looked really cool.
Basically seemed like a good version of Assassins Creed.

Except in Splinter Cell you can snap necks, blow shit up, and rip people's eyeballs out (I made the last one up). Assassin's Creed beat Splinter Cell with the idea of blending in your surroundings but wasn't executed well. It's going to be a hard sell if you both Assassin's Creed 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction come at the same time. Personally, I'm looking forward to Assassin's Creed 2 more because it's kind of a breather from playing so many shooters.

But the last thing I want from Splinter Cell is anything like Assassin's Creed. The first and third games were so incredible - I just want an update of those, not a game that shits all over the idea of sneaking around in the dark and has Sam Fisher beating up cops in the park.

Of course there hasn't been any gameplay videos released. Up until today this game was pretty much considered vaporware. The only difference is now we have a timeframe for it's release.

I don't see how it would be considered vaporware. Interest dropped off after the delay when all the media stopped, but there was a lot of infromation, screens and even a trailer for a game.

Being delayed doesn't make it vaporware, even if it was a *big* delay :)

Actually that long of a delay with no screen shots or media does make the game vaporware. Same thing that has happened with Alan Wake & The Shin Megami Tensei PS3 game. Out of sight out of mind then interest starts to slowly erode like the muddy banks of the wishkah ;) This announcement is promising and sort of generates interest in the title again. Hopefully we start to see progress of the game as we move closer to E3 and the holiday season.

I can't imagine that this will be Xbox 360 exclusive just for the reason that Ubisoft would be losing out on so much money from those that decided to go the Playstation 3 route. There are so many fans on both sides.
I do think however that Microsoft will end up touting this as a timed exclusive during E3 and will also reveal the game's gameplay,story, etc;
