While this game really doesn't look impressive when compared to PS3 or 360 games, I hope you're not using the above pic as a reference point - that's a reeeeal old screenshot. The newer ones are looking much better, though that ain't saying much.

True. But you also have to admit that the jump to the current generation was not quite as impressive as the leap from, say, the PS1/N64 to the PS2/GC/Xbox.

Yeah, they have HD modes when REALLY makes a game look a lot better.

Either way, Conduit looks really really REALLY good for a Wii game.
Compared to Xbox360 and PS3 then, duh, it looks pretty bad. lol

I don't know why, but the comments about GoW's graphics make me even less confident in this game. Between this and the graphical comparison video the other day, it almost seems like arrogance-- like they can't actually comprehend why some people say their graphics (environments, specifically) look bad. Maybe it's not arrogance that concerns me so much as denial; that they don't want to believe the graphics make the game look rushed (or that they know it is, but SEGA won't let them say anything about it)

I'm not counting it out, and obviously the more good games the better, but it just gets worse and worse the more I hear about this game.

When have you ever seen a published interview where the goal is to bring hype about your game say something like "yea... our graphics aren't as good. it sucks".

It wouldn't be good press for them - everyone in marketing does their spin and tries to keep everything positive about the product.

There's a big difference between saying "yeah, our X sucks", and saying "Look at our Y and Z, look at how great that is."

Everything about the Conduit that has been shown so far looks terrible, graphically. The controls, however, look superb, and the gameplay in general doesn't seem far behind.

You play to your strengths, not go "LALALALLALALALALA MY APPENDIX IS INCREDIBLY USEFUL, IT'S NOT A WEAK SPOT AT ALL, LALALALALALA".

I totally think the graphics aren't as bad as everyone thinks. Just because it can't put out the polys and textures of the other systems doesn't mean it looks bad IMO. And this is coming from someone who doesn't really like the wii.

When they discuss graphical prowess, they actually mean shaders and blur, since no other Wii game touches the TEV unit (and very few GC games did as well). In terms of art style and story, they fail (judging from what has been shown so far).

It may be interesting how the online mode plays out, though.

Ok, I can understand judging the graphics from a collection of screens and trailers, but give me a break dude, the story? Yeah the story sucks pretty bad. The screenshots totally prove it. The story especially sucked when the dude killed like 4 guys in that trailer. Terrible story.

Reserve judgement until you play the game.

LOL! Daryl. I suppose you havent heard that the Ps3s graphics is powered by a 256mb 7800GTX with 24 pixel shader pipelines and 8 vertex shader pipelines. The 360 is powered by a 256Mb DX10 Compatible ATIR600 with 48 UNIFIED shader pipelines (they can do pixel AND vertex shaders). The ATIR600 is equivalent to a Geforce 8800GT, which any PC enthusiast will tell you is about 4x more powerful than a 7800GTX. Yay the Cell has more power, but games are becoming more and more reliant on graphics processing rather than cpu processing, especially since Nvidia has proven that graphics cards are faster than CPUs at processing anything. The Ps3 version WONT look better than the 360 version. Its funny when people say the Ps3 is more powerful than the 360, cause while it has more raw processing power, games made for both 'should' look better on 360.

They'll end up the way of Monolith Soft where Nintendo will make them create games, really good games, and then no publish them to most of the world and everyone gets screwed.

I just hope Sega keeps supporting them really.

I wouldn't mind Nintendo working with these guys.. Loved when Rare (perfect dark) and Silicon Knights (eternal darkness) were with Nintendo..

Though it doesn't necessarily mean a good game if Nintendo takes them under their wing.. That Disaster and Geist (Nintendo funded this game or something right?) game don't seem like the most polished games.

Hardy are you kidding?.. That Disaster game looked liked a turd. Why was Monolith Soft working on that anyway instead of an rpg?

It's usually brought up first because for so long, the visuals were what a good few Wii fans hyped the game on, long before any control or multiplayer details were leaked (which was ass backwards to begin with considering it went against one of the most popular NDF mantras, 'Gameplay over Graphics!!1').

I can't help but to be turned off at least a little by the visuals of the game; they are part of the game, you know. However, if the gameplay was at all impressive, that would have made up for it, as was the case with almost every Wii game I own right now. Sadly, that is not the case with The Conduit - after having played so many stellar FPS games over the course of these last two generations, it's hard for me to get hyped for something like this.

Nice, thanks dude. Haven't been keeping up on all the VC & WiiWare releases so I'm pretty far behind as to what has come out that is decent lately, especially on the VC side of things. Still have FF: My Life as a King, 1st episode of Strong Bad, and Lost Winds and I've barely touched any of them :P I suppose I could go through those 1st, but then again I've always liked having more games than I can handle playing lying around.

I almost feel sorry for these guys. They can't fully admit how much distance is between the HD systems and the wii in power, because he doesn't want to make his game look as weak as it does. They have to deal with the fact that it's going to sell horribly. And they have to promote the controls somehow as the main selling point, because nothing else in the game looks the least bit interesting at all to anyone who's ever played a FPS on ps3/360.

As trollan as that sounded (I usually defend ya, Mac, but that's a bit much), he's got a point. I understand I'll be downvoted by daring to offer a dissenting opinion about this clearly amazing and truly awesome incredible game, but honestly, after sitting here for almost three years listening to Wii fans call out every big FPS effort on the other two systems as some form of 'generic' or 'stale', and then getting hyped up for what appears to be one of the most generic FPS games to hit consoles this year, and because it has impressive visuals, no less (whatever happened to that good ol' graphics over gameplay argument?)... it's just a bit confusing.

It's nice that they're putting effort into the product, but honestly, the animations and environments aren't that impressive, the gameplay doesn't look too hot (it's hard to explain... it just looks, uh, average.), and while I'm sure the controls'll be fantastic... well, I've never bought a game based solely on it's controls before, and I don't plan to.

Keen, I find it absolutely hilarious that you're saying that in a comment thread about a game that's being hyped mostly OVER ITS VISUALS.

Oh, and, dude, this just in - controls =/= gameplay. I mean, sure, they're a part of the gameplay, but they're just one of the core gameplay elements. Everything I've seen of this game so far makes it look like your average corridor shooter.

I don't see how that furthers the conversation. The kid has a point: the game is dated and it hasn't even been released yet. While controls maybe superior (we've yet to find out), the environments are shoddy, the enemies appear to have less intelligence than a regular rail shooter and the entire thrust of the High Voltage's effort seems to be 'we can make genericool too, guys.' It's like Halflife never existed.

Argue the points with the kid. Why should people get excited for the Conduit and rather than that 50 Cent vehicle or Eat Lead? Their branches of the same tree of tedium.

What? I like games, Nintendo makes em.. Simple as that. You can call me a Nintendo fanboy all you want as a means to dismiss my point, but it makes you sound like politician.

"Good question, I've never really took the time and thought about it. I'll have to get back to you someday on that."

Ahh boo.. you should be able to spit those out off the top of your head without thinking..

"I understand I'll be downvoted by daring to offer a dissenting opinion about this clearly amazing and truly awesome incredible game, but honestly, after sitting here for almost three years listening to Wii fans call out every big FPS effort on the other two systems as some form of 'generic' or 'stale', and then getting hyped up for what appears to be one of the most generic FPS games to hit consoles this year, and because it has impressive visuals, no less (whatever happened to that good ol' graphics over gameplay argument?)... it's just a bit confusing."

I think your building this up to be bigger then it is insight.. You're lumping all wii owners together as if they had some sort of unified voice. Wii owners didn't call out all fps as generic, a handful of guys on joystiq who own a wii did. Are these same guys now praising this game? How do you even know they're the same people? You're attributing all this shit to Wii owners who happen to be interested in this game in an attempt to do what? Make them look like hypocrites? Thats probably why you find it a "bit confusing".

For me personally I don't ever remember saying fps on other systems are 'generic' or 'stale'.. Though I could understand how a person could feel that way about the genre in general, because feel that way (some people felt this way towards platformers, fighters and jrpgs when they completly flooded the market). It seems fps have been the most prolific genre for the last few years and I've been playing fps for so long its all white noise to me now, I cant even finish Bioshock (a game I was told was the pinnacle of fps) and it saddened me to find out that borderlands was a fps..

This game stands out because the controls offer something completely different.. Just so you know in the future the only fps I ever plan on buying is the new halo (not the conduit, though I may consider it), I'm buying Halo for the great local multiplayer and I would still buy it if it had the conduits graphics..

"I don't see how that furthers the conversation." Your right, it has nothing to do with the conduit or the conversation, but Id still like to know what games tmac (somebody who I've only ever seen hate games) would consider to be in his top 5.. ya know for shits and giggles.
