this game looks sick. it seems like a massive tactical version warhawk without aerial combat. and it looks like it won't have much spawn killing either. great.

Yeah, warhawk got too complicate for me with all the aircraft, vehicles and control schemes, i'm glad they aren't shoehorning piloting into this as i just can't be arsed.
I just want to shoot hundreds of people in the face, fly-boys are cowards anyway.

Yeah I agree.
although my Battlefield 2 friends call me "Ace" for my flying skills i always hate it when one player takes a 60-million-dollar F-35b VTOL and kamikaze on me while trying to take-off(of course ejecting before crash...),it's so damn frustrating !
and if you combine that "kamikaze" technique with massive 128 enemies = MASSIVE FAIL.

There is friendly fire on, but the damage is reduced by 50% or so (sounds like they're still tweaking it).

They've put a lot of effort into making sure griefers are easy to take care of, and I know they have systems setup to punish naughty players and make it easy for teams or squads to kick out somebody who is TKing. I don't know specifics though...

How frequent is team killing anyway? Havent seen any of it in Resistance 2.

Did open fire on a teammate by mistake once - you could tell he was pissed off, thank god he didnt have a mike!

I'm extremely excited for this game. Finally something that looks like it might be able to compete with how much fun I used to have playing COD4 online... Anyone know a release date though..?

Fall '09 -- no specific date. They sounded quite confident that they were going to nail that time frame.

Wow, this guy didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about. He completely misinterpreted the question about class customization, pointlessly described the art style as 'dark and gritty', and didn't seem to understand the point of the end game (according to Colin).

To be fair to Russ, I was asking a lot of more technical and gameplay specific questions, and he is the Art Director -- so it's not entirely his forte. I may have been too hard on him. :)

Except that it isn't an MMO.

Sounds to me like it's Counter Strike+Battlefield 2+Call of Duty 4+awesome.
And there's nothing wrong with that.

I wonder how this will compare to SOCOM II, Zipper's last fantastic game they developed. I have high hopes for this game, and I hope it turns out good.

To me, it really sounds like SOCOM 3, but in first person, and more players lol

Very excited about this game! Im not usually a massive fan of FPSs but I have to admit after killzone I am once again 'turned on' by the genre!

As for the lack of aerial vehicles... I agree with the devs, I think adding them might be too much, I mean just like it was said in the previous article, aerial vehicles are used as multi-million dollar transports where players just swipe them zoom off alone and crash in the middle of combat... at least in my experience... maybe if they were done really well and it didnt mess up with the balancing of the game we could see them in an update further down the line? Who knows, probably far too early to be thinking of possible updates for the game! Game is looking epic though, Im excited!

if they had designated landing zones, that could work. or if you had to get a certain number of kills or objectives completed before being allowed to land.

This game sounds amazing. I haven't really fully enjoyed an online shooter since Battlefield 2. I think this might be the one to bring it back though. Sounds very ambitious, but it also sounds like they are handling it well. Due Fall 09? Right?

I'm definitely skipping COD6 for this.

Actually, that looks like a helicopter spawn point. In a previous Joystiq article, they took out some AAA batteries that were nailing their [Joystiq's] air cover and once the AAA batteries were destroyed, they gained access to a chopper-based spawn point. I'm not entirely sure if that was how they were able to parachute down but it seems to be a question to ask the Joystiq staff about.

You know, rumors were thrown around about a subscription fee. But seeing is how they are confident on releasing this fall, I do not think there will be a fee. Sony made the Playstation Network free so I hope this game does not carry a monthly fee. I mean 256 is a big number for a fps, but not that big compared to MMOs.

Yea, i love the not having to wait for a server!!!!

THATS REVOLUTION!

i know for some it might not be a huge deal , but for me its the best..

cause i always need a warm-up before getting started, and i hate long lobby waits...

One thing im concerd about is mikes, hopefully you can only talk to people in your squad, because i dont want to hear 128 people having like 50 or some different conversations going on... Not going to work.....

I'm pretty stoked for this game.. Hope more info comes out on e3.

Yeah I'm afraid of Mikes too. A guy named Mike tried to rob me.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure they stated that you will only be able to directly communicate to those in your squad along with your squad leader. I don't think you can hear the Platoon leader or Army(?) leader, because it's the job of the squad leader to relay orders through FRAGO's.

Russ.. hook me up brother..let me add MAG to the Master Beta'rs portfolio..It's a little late, but you can still be the 3rd Beta test for 2009..right after FAT Princess, and Free Realms but considering Free Realms is PC, and FAT Princess is PS3, you can be # Duex...but really #1 because I have been sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo looking forward too getting my hands on it so to speak, and testing the hell out of it....lol..Cya on the Battlefield!

There's a Joystiq Hands-On article about MAG that already addressed this. Basically, you can play for the other factions as well since the only thing that sticks with you is how your User Interface looks, which is dependent on which faction you joined first.
