New Prototype trailer examines mission types, sword-arming
Now that we've gotten that out of the way, in the trailer above, Prototype's executive producer Tim Bennison explains the various mission types you'll be playing. Between "shank dude then appear as him" and "chase giant monster through the city" (clearly the official names), we're hoping the game has enough variation to keep us interested. But, then again, we could always just run up a building and then glide down to the ground off the side of it, killing helicopter pilots on the way down, in mid-air.
Yeah, maybe we'll do that instead.

Looks...kind of flat?
Doesn't seem like a lot of variety in the environments, hopefully it'll surprise me though.
godlovesugly @ Apr 30th 2009 7:08PM
Actually the park environment looks alright, here's hoping!
Kevin949 @ Apr 30th 2009 7:17PM
It's new york....what do you want from it?
Averna @ Apr 30th 2009 8:13PM
I've always seen this as a little bit of a bland game graphically, but I'm going to pick it up anyway just for that few hours after work when you have that itch to cause insane amount of death and mayhem.
I don't think it looks as in depth as inFamous, but it has more freedom by a long shot and its more violent, which is always nice. I guess I still need to see how the missions are set into the game. If its GTA'ish then it should be a great gaming experience.
ice~ @ Apr 30th 2009 7:09PM
Killing zombies with helicopter blades...AWESOME...yet such a waste of a helicopter...
jarhead906 @ May 1st 2009 1:56AM

gamepete64 @ Apr 30th 2009 7:11PM
The idea is cool. I might get bored and do other stuff.
Cj @ Apr 30th 2009 7:13PM
I need this game. Preordered it just for the figurine.
Can't wait for the achievements.
Manly Mcbeefigan (Mr. ESC) @ Apr 30th 2009 7:16PM
If you could create your own character instead of playing as Alex that would really help the immersion but I'll pass that if they allow me to cut people's heads with the helicopter blades.
Bored Exchange Student @ Apr 30th 2009 7:25PM
Zzzzzzzz...more open-world garbage.
Kevin949 @ Apr 30th 2009 7:27PM
Seriously, more on-rails games please!!!

@Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta)
i guess having an opinion automatically makes a troll right?
Bored Exchange Student @ Apr 30th 2009 8:12PM
*makes me a troll right?
Michelobius @ Apr 30th 2009 8:47PM
Not the opinion itself so much as the inflammatory way in which you present it. Calling this game "open world garbage" may not be untrue, but you could present that a bit more tactfully. For instance, my opinion of the game:
Ahem.
I don't really see anything interesting about Prototype. Every time the producer said "the cool thing about x is y" the "y" was something that has already been done 100 times before, and the "x" is a mission type that we've not only seen before, but has proven to be the worst part of many games. Chase sequences, rescues, protect missions, infiltrations? Lame. That seems to me like code for "we made the player character overpowered, so we needed to think of ways to make the game difficult". I mean, based on what I've seen someone what couldn't this guy accomplish by destroying everything in his path?
fred @ Apr 30th 2009 9:01PM
Look at their comment history. They ARE a troll.

a not troll would also have at least 1 positive comment ever

It's pretty strange Prototype and inFamous are coming out right around the same time. Interested in reading reviews to see which one is better, or if they are even both really good. inFamous comes with the Uncharted 2 beta of course though ;-)
Kevin949 @ Apr 30th 2009 7:28PM
It's not strange at all. It's like Paul Blart and the other mall cop movie coming out relatively close to one another.
Kevin949 @ Apr 30th 2009 7:27PM
Still want this game.
Masterofallz @ Apr 30th 2009 7:32PM
Eh, I might skip Prototype. inFamous is on my list first.
Joel @ Apr 30th 2009 7:37PM
i still dont understand why his hoodie is super glued to his head and sounds like bootleg batman.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Apr 30th 2009 7:37PM
Because he's badass that's why.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Apr 30th 2009 7:37PM
The patsy move was absolutely hilarious. Seriously that was great.
bgardner104 @ Apr 30th 2009 7:42PM
sux inFamous look way better.go look a their new trailer hell of a lot better then this shit. the trailer makes the game look to much the hulk ultimate destruction game in every way.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Apr 30th 2009 7:51PM
"the trailer makes the game look to much the hulk ultimate destruction game in every way."
1. Hmmm, maybe it's because they're both similar games and both games are made by the same developer.
2. THAT'S A GOOD THING. I fail to see how saying it looks too much like Hulk Ultimate destruction can be seen as a negative, especially since Ultimate destruction is one of my favorite games from last years and it's fucking fun as hell running around New York as the massive being that is the Hulk wrecking shit up.
And this is my own personal opinion, but I find the trailers for Prototype vastly more entertaining than any of the Infamous trailers I've seen. Not saying the game will be bad, but I tend to find trailers featuring the character elbow dropping a tank much more entertaining than seeing the character perform parkour and shoot lightning bolts from his hands for 5 minutes.
Poisoned Al @ Apr 30th 2009 10:37PM
Wow, the PS3 fanboys are out in force again. How about we wait until the games come out before we judge them humm? Noooooo, one is an exclusive for your shiny black lump of buyers remorse, so that one HAS to be better right? Oh for the love of Christ PLEASE shut up! Infamous looks better, but big fucking deal. It might handle like shit for all you know. I'll tell you something straight, I'd much much rather play a good game with crap graphics then a bad one that looks pretty. Case in point; I've been replaying Thief 2 for the last few weeks. That damn game was ugly when it came out, let alone now, but I still say it's the best stealth game out there becuase everything works (almost).
Maybe Infamous IS way better, but until we know for sure, please SHUT THE FUCK UP!
X-singular @ May 1st 2009 9:20AM
Hey
downvote me all you want but I am getting both.
steven(PSN: small_hands) @ Apr 30th 2009 7:59PM
Well I was totally sceptical about this game... thought the main character was just too powerful for there to be any real challenge, and (for me atleast) good gameplay centers around a decent challenge. Which was why I was far more interested with inFamous but after seeing this trailer, Prototype is back on my radar, dont get me wrong though inFamous is still a day one purchase, but I'm not going to dismiss Prototype as garbage... also commandeering a helicopter in mid flight and then mowing through zombies with helicopters rotor blades sounds pretty awesome.
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Apr 30th 2009 9:10PM
Agree one hundred per cent. Most ps3 owners are probably more keen on inFamous because of the quality from sony exclusices (kz2, lbp, uncharted etc), but after seeing this I am really going to have to try this out. I think the environments are a bit bland compared to inFamous but this video has definetley put this game back on my radar also.
bgardner104 @ Apr 30th 2009 8:16PM
hulk ultimate destruction was to repetitive. i love the game. i could never play more then 5 min at a time. Prototype is also on the 360 and have shorter game, compressed texture to fit within 9gb. i would buy this game if activision hadn't bout sierra game. most activision are the same shit over and over eg: cod gh and most long running game series they published.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Apr 30th 2009 8:39PM
Jesus christ man. It took me like 5 reads to understand what you were saying. Also learn how to reply to your own posts.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Apr 30th 2009 8:42PM
Not only that, but I find it absolutely hilarious how you constantly contradict yourself in the same sentence.
bgardner104 @ Apr 30th 2009 8:18PM
i'll sill buy this game
bgardner104 @ Apr 30th 2009 8:22PM

Look how easily he ran up that building!
You can practicaly fly.
This Is my dream Super hero type game (Though he's Evil)
Can't wait too try the demo =)
Muertoloco @ Apr 30th 2009 8:29PM
This game looks good, let's hope it ends up being fun as it seems; not that i can compare it to anything in this gen except crackdown.
Bobby S. @ Apr 30th 2009 8:32PM
Man I am definitely getting this game. That just looks like too much fun.
aacman007 @ Apr 30th 2009 8:39PM
I can't wait to destroy the place I live in this game! The devs definitely had a great idea in mind. To let your protagonist be hardcore overpowered and let you take a shit on everyone. Fun stuff, fun stuff.
bgardner104 @ Apr 30th 2009 8:42PM
can someone name a activision game that is not shit?
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Apr 30th 2009 8:45PM
REPLY TO YOUR OWN POST. IT'S VERY EASY, JUST PRESS THE REPLY BUTTON ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNOR OF YOUR POST. THIS IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE.
Also CoD4 says hi.
Matt @ Apr 30th 2009 9:05PM
In no way was CoD4 developed by Activision. Infinity Ward says "Hi!".
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ Apr 30th 2009 9:55PM
CoD4 was published by activision. Therefore it's an activision game.
Matt @ May 1st 2009 2:39PM
That's like saying The Shining was published by Signet, and is therefore not Stephen King's book. In other words, retarded.
Daniel @ Apr 30th 2009 9:39PM
Stupid thing is that in NZ Activision are increasing the prices on their games making the PC version of Prototype $120 and the PS3/360 version $140. So I'm just going to get inFamous at $120 and that's for the special edition. I'm looking forward to that more anyway.
