Next Call of Duty: World at War map pack coming in June

What do you do after selling one million Call of Duty: World at War map packs during their first week of availability? You make more. And, lo, Activision and developer Treyarch are doing just that, prepping a second salvo of DLC for a June release.
The Call of Duty: World at War Map Pack 2 (c'mon, guys, you can surely come up with something catchier using all that dough) will introduce three new multiplayer maps: "Banzai," a jungle environment riddled with caves; "Corrosion," a Russian train yard; and "Sub Pens," a rain-drenched submarine base.
That's all well and good, but now for the good stuff: a new Nazi Zombie map! "Shi No Numa," home to this guy, promises new Perk machines, a new weapon, new Achievements / Trophies and flaming Hell hounds. It also promises to keep our repository of nightmare material well-stocked.

I like W@W.
I'll get this.
blindfromthesun @ Apr 30th 2009 5:26PM
Public service announcement:
DO NOT BUY
Console owners shelled out $10 for maps while PC gamers got them all for FREE. Good way to tell your fans how you care about them right? Don't support anymore paid DLC....unless you like paying for someone getting maps while you get screwed.
I don't care if PC gamers are used to getting patches, updates, and DLC for free. Guess what? It shouldn't be an expected standard. Things cost money. If you don't want to buy DLC...don't. Its sad when publishers have to tip toe around PC gamers feelings because they threaten to pirate their game as protest. Publishers should skip PC retail all together. Support consoles- if we are paying $60 for games and willing to pay for a million map packs, they should remember who makes them more money. They shouldn't get preferential treatment.
Sorry for the rant but watch as the second map pack is released for another $10 fee for playing on a console instead of a PC.
Einhanderkiller @ Apr 30th 2009 5:33PM
lol, what.
Intel sponsored Activision/Treyarch. That is why the map packs are free on PC.
ben @ Apr 30th 2009 6:01PM
I think it was NVIDIA, but yeah.
Einhanderkiller @ Apr 30th 2009 8:57PM
NVIDIA sponsored the map pack for Call of Duty 4. Intel sponsored for World at War.
Lennoko @ Apr 30th 2009 11:53PM
@Blind
Sounds like you need a computer. DLC is a Console term anyways.
Dan the Man @ Apr 30th 2009 3:04PM
No one buy this garbage!
Cr4sh Dummy @ Apr 30th 2009 3:08PM
I concur!
max stubbs @ Apr 30th 2009 3:14PM
You cannot cal Zombies Garbage, its better than most retail games.
Cr4sh Dummy @ Apr 30th 2009 3:16PM
Stubbs, play Left 4 Dead.
Dan the Man @ Apr 30th 2009 3:21PM
It's just that this game doesn't really take any skill to be good at. Save your money for MW2. And besides if you love zombies go play Resident Evil 5.
Mest @ Apr 30th 2009 3:55PM
WAW has more zombies then resident evil 5 dude Lets get real here
potato @ Apr 30th 2009 4:33PM
WAW takes more skill in multiplayer than COD4, I'm sorry.
1 - No double-frag perk means less nade spam and n00b kills, also means no stupid maps like Container.
2 - Focus on semi-automatic weapons reduces spray-and-pray and encourages better marksmanship. WAW players can actually *aim and shoot*. COD4 is just about squeezing the trigger.
3 - The attack dog reward is less unbalanced than the "OMGPWN" helicopter that is way too hard to take down.
I haven't played WAW in a while, I should get to it. It's one of the only multiplayer games (that and TF2) that I actually enjoy.
Look At This Suit @ Apr 30th 2009 4:46PM
I was extremely confused while reading your post, until I got to the part where it says you haven't played in a while.
1- There is a double frag perk. But random nades have been replaced by placing random bouncing betties around the map.
2. Again, are you playing the same game as me? The only things people use are SMGs, mainly the MP40 and PPSH. If anything, there's MORE spray and pray.
3. The attack dogs are actually better than the helicopter. The helicopter always seemed to not attack as much after the person who called it in had their streak ended. The dogs are just as vicious as they are when they get called in, plus teamwork can't take out dogs, you just have to wait them out.
Plus, Shipment (Not Container) was the best map in CoD4, you hold your tongue.
Johnny Neat @ Apr 30th 2009 6:17PM
1. Hit detection is horribly unreliable. Point blank, no jug and guys walks away laughing?
2. Weapon damage is disproportionate to the gun & distance fired at targets. Nuff said.
3. Free firing is the new rifle grenading spawn cheap tactic. Big example is Seelow.
4. The same weapons are used by the cheap players (MP40, STG, PPSH, Browning etc etc etc) can't be help, one thing is corrected the losers find more.
5. Weapon penetration is wonky. Bullets are able to pass concrete walls and blocks but not wooden boxes or leaf walls of huts, really?
6. Bullet distance is uncorrected. Pistols can snipe?
Cr4sh Dummy @ Apr 30th 2009 10:21PM
Potato and Mest- you guys have your collective heads up your pathetic fucking asses!
"WAW takes more skill in multiplayer than COD4, I'm sorry." That's got to be the most utterly moronic comment I've seen on this site, perhaps the internet...
"I haven't played WAW in a while, I should get to it. It's one of the only multiplayer games (that and TF2) that I actually enjoy." Then this negates the entire premise of your argument, no? If you really want to play a great multiplayer game, play Battlefield... any of them, they're 10xs better than that pathetic piece of shit known as World at War.
Mest @ Apr 30th 2009 11:09PM
Dude hes right Cod4 is spray and pray nothing more and to be honest its good but WAW even though everyone seems to hate it is just a better game main reason
BLOOD!!! ....and zombies...!
Lennoko @ May 1st 2009 11:13AM
Lol. BLOOD AND GORE MAKES A GAME BETTER! TRUE FACTZ!/Sarcasm
Archon (PSN: Archonik, XBL: DarkARHN) @ Apr 30th 2009 3:06PM
Damn. I was late to the whole CoD bandwagon so I decided to wait for Modern Warfare 2 and just skip WaW so that I don't get pwnd by everyone.
I regret this decision...
HazyCloud @ Apr 30th 2009 3:11PM
I just jumped into MW1 last week and have been loving it. Pickup a copy to get ready for MW2. You'll have a blast.
Powaqqatsi @ Apr 30th 2009 11:32PM
Don't bother. Get CoD4 instead. WaW is crap, compared.
Inect @ Apr 30th 2009 3:13PM
Teck come on all a want is a multi zombie pack.
Inect @ Apr 30th 2009 3:25PM
a = i
sorry I am Canadian
sk8monroe81 @ Apr 30th 2009 3:20PM
everyone talks down on treyarch for their work, however this will be map pack # 2 and i see at least a map pack # 3 dropping before MW2....
infinity ward we could have used a few more maps IMO>
HazyCloud @ Apr 30th 2009 3:51PM
I'd have to agree. I'm surprised to see IW not supporting MW further. One map pack doesn't cut it. At any given time, I see about 100k people playing MW.
kentuckyfried @ Apr 30th 2009 5:02PM
It's like they don't care.
sk8monroe81 @ Apr 30th 2009 5:30PM
i guess they put 100% of their resources into making MW2 and taking vacations ?
if treyarch built cod5 off of the infinity ward game and engines i could see them having more time on their hands.
while Infinity ward may be coming up with new things, engines, etc. etc.
i mean they must know that this would have been profitable?
thats not always bad when a developer doesnt milk us for money..
but i think this would more by fan service and worthwhile...
tdom @ Apr 30th 2009 3:20PM
Seriously guys, take the Zombie mode, rip it out, and give me COD: Zombie Edition in a shrink-wrapped box with lots of maps, multiplayer (more than 4 people), achievements, XP, and all the rest. I'd buy that in a heart beat and would probably play it more than regular ol' COD. Love me some zombies! Bring on flaming hell hounds!
iSwarm @ Apr 30th 2009 3:23PM
OMG! If they did that I would definitely buy it!
David @ Apr 30th 2009 4:04PM
Their too blind to do anything like that.
Avada Kadavra 9 @ Apr 30th 2009 3:30PM
YIPPIE! I love this game, it's AWESOME. Best of all when you whip up on people, unlike halo when you do that and they want to be your friend, in here people just curse at you. Which can be fun until you get a 5 year old telling you he just banged your mom. . .
Afrocass @ Apr 30th 2009 3:37PM
If everyone keeps buying this crap Treyarch will think they've done a job! instead of knowing that they're are horrible and should stop making games entirely!
NUFCRULE @ Apr 30th 2009 3:51PM
only thing is tho , many people are going to buy this because unlike you many people wont think its crap
i dont think this will be crap
i love call of duty world at war , and i loved map pack 1 , and im buying map pack 2
so please stop moaning , and remember thats just your opinion
Kayi @ Apr 30th 2009 3:51PM
Would you people get of IW's cock and realize that WaW is actually a decent game. Think about it, if they made a CoD game different from MW's success, Activision would be pissed. They pretty much had no choice but to follow MW's formula and it made the game success full and Activision is happy. If Treyarch was as bad as everyone was saying, this game would not have co-op, no map packs, nothing new (Zombies) and horrible campaign with no interesting music like in MW.
They may not be as good as IW and WaW may not be as good as MW, but WaW's community is certainly better than IW's at the moment. Nothing but a bunch of college students talking about how much WaW and other shooters suck and how CoD4 is more innovative than games like Halo and GoW.
CB @ Apr 30th 2009 4:18PM
Keep saying Treyarch is crap, but I can see IW implementing things in MW2 that Treyarch used in WaW like having second chance, reducing martyrdom's effectiveness, nerfing random grenades, removing teammates' grenade icon so you don't think it's an enemy's, etc.
Johnny Neat @ Apr 30th 2009 6:17PM
I had to comment here, why is this comment being voted down? I don't get it? I like WWII and I like Zombie mode as a bonus, but this games MP is broken. I could list the whats but I'd be here for too long writing fasts.
Johnny Neat @ Apr 30th 2009 6:20PM
In all fairness CB, You're right somethings implemented have been good, like the 15 second Search rifle grenade amnesty which was BADLY needed. That was one of the MAJOR issues with this game. I think that if we could get the best of both worlds we'd be in FPS heaven.
Cr4sh Dummy @ Apr 30th 2009 10:25PM
I blame the Xbox community that plagued with 12 year olds and their foul, high pitched annoying mouths.
Powaqqatsi @ Apr 30th 2009 11:39PM
The only reason WaW is so popular is because they took all the good things from MW, and because it's the newest version. It's just riding MW's coattails. Personally, I only play it because it's got more people online and MW was getting kinda old. I can't wait for MW2 to come out so that sell WaW.
greg (peevmyster) @ Apr 30th 2009 3:57PM
Tryarch is showing way more support than IW did with COD4. Would have loved more maps for MW, more than just 3. They could probably come out with a map pack now for MW and still sell shit loads of them.
DeepFriedSushi @ Apr 30th 2009 4:00PM
its cause IW has to do the real work like building the engine and making multiplayer, treyarch just makes skins and maps.
MilsurpShooter @ Apr 30th 2009 4:01PM
Trainyard sounds like a good sniper map... I hope.
Rhamsey @ Apr 30th 2009 4:01PM
more dlc already?
tehk1w1 @ Apr 30th 2009 4:04PM
Shi no Numa translates to Bog of Death.
It could also mean Swap of Memories, but given that it's a WW2 game, I'm going to settle for the former.
drdre74 @ Apr 30th 2009 4:15PM
the thought of Hell Hounds is reason enough to buy this when it drops lol! between this and Killzone 2 maps and Burnout Cops and Robbers I'm spending too much money.
Tyler @ Apr 30th 2009 4:56PM
map packs.... I mean really?
Sure they add more fun for those who buy them. But those that don't get screwed out of games unless they have them.
Take that $4.99, spend it on Noby Noby Boy (I just bought it, A GREAT STRESS RELIEVER!)... Or any other $4.99 game on the PSN... Instead of a couple crappy maps.
If you HAVE to buy maps, get them for a game where the company put a little work into making the game. COD4, Resistance, KZ2. Instead of making a quick cash-in on another successful title.
kentuckyfried @ Apr 30th 2009 5:04PM
I like that Treyarch is on top of their game in keeping up with DLC. Too many people spend too much time badmouthing them.
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ Apr 30th 2009 5:25PM
sweet. i hated the competitive maps in the first map pack but these sound good. and the nazi zombie map in map pack 1 was perfect so i have i hopes for this one.
German @ Apr 30th 2009 5:28PM
whats with the hating?
World at war is great and I'm highly anticipating this.
??flaming Hell hounds??
modified @ Apr 30th 2009 9:12PM
Lets get it straight though. W@W has a strong multiplayer because it's a WW2 skin wrapped around COD4 and Nazi Zombie is great. The only reason I played through the campaign was to get Nazi Zombie mode. I would gladly throw away that campaign for more Nazi Zombie maps.
