I've actually been to Ottumwa. It wasn't THAT exciting...

That is seriously the most depressing looking picture I've ever seen. Besides the Donkey Kong thing, what do they have to do with games? At least in Dundee we have Realtime Worlds and games like GTA, Tomb Raider, Lemmings, etc, were made here..

Do they even have a Walmart, or Gamestop there? Do they know that there have been games made after Donkey Kong?

And what sucks is that noone can stop them.

Okay, even if disregard the fact many of the games of any note have been made outside the US (Japan and the UK mostly), Ottumwa STILL has fuck all to do with ANYTHING in the games industry... Or anything else for that matter.

Um, guys, Ottumwa has been calling itself the 'Video Game Capital of the World' since 1982.

And it's not because of Billy Mitchell, it's because Twin Galaxies (and the entire competitive arcade gaming culture because of it) has been there since late 1981.

Seriously, guys, do some research before you bitch and moan.

What a terrible article and lousy excuse for journalism. Do you guys bother to read press releases at all?

The basis for this idea is not because Billy Mitchell set his old Donkey Kong score there. It was because competitive video gaming started in that town. Twin Galaxies original arcade was in that town, as covered in several movies and, yep, in the press release. The old DK score that Billy set there back in the day was one of hundreds upon hundreds upon hundreds of World Record scores set by dozens and dozens and dozens of gamers.

Due to all of that back in the day, Ottumwa declared itself Video Game Capital of the World back then and the world went with it. On top of that, it was where Twin Galaxies, which is still going strong today, started. You simply call this "an Ottumwa arcade" somehow missing the idea totally.

In the future, before giving "coverage" to a story like this... try to get at least one fact in the mix. When you actually READ press releases and bother to search for even one crumb of information you discover things called FACTS that make for a good story.

Instead, your pathetic and irresponsible excuse for journalism now means that people think this is some King of Kong-fed Billy thing, and not a tribute to Twin Galaxies and all it started there 27 years ago.

Billy Mitchel is awesome. Awesome in the way that Army of Two is awesome, that PBR is awesome and that stuff from the Skymall cataloger are awesome.

Seriously, guys like Billy Mitchell make the world fun and interesting. Billy needs to keep being Billy and annoying the shit out of people. That's what makes this little micro-niche of competition what it is.

I honestly don't see why so many people hate Billy Mitchell. He is hilarious in the same way that David Brent (Ricky Gervais) is funny. His crazy, over-the-top ego, his lame jokes, that USA tie. I just love his whole "King of the Nerds" shtick (but it seems that I'm the only one).
