Square Enix's new mystery game could be Front Mission 360

Square Enix has launched a Japanese Flash site for a new game, but we don't know what that new game is. The URL is "http://www.square-enix.co.jp/mystery/" and the page is merely titled "NEW GAME," so it seems that we're looking at your basic countdown teaser site ... with no countdown. That means we'll have no idea how early Famitsu's early reveal will be.

The site features a rendered cityscape with a giant industrial-looking structure and little animated explosions all over the place. A John F. Kennedy quote appears above the city: "The world is very different now. For man holds in his mortal hands the power to abolish all forms of human poverty and all forms of human life."

The same image was used in a teaser at the end of the June issue of OXM, according to 1UP. That teaser's text made it as clear as possible (while still being a teaser) that the game referenced was a new Front Mission for Xbox 360, to be revealed at E3.

the question now is, will Sony be on top in 3-5 years like that guy stated a few days ago? I think it will take them more like 5-8 years from the looks of xbox still getting xclusives.

Which is not true - since PS3 obviously has the better exclusives last year and looking like it will this year.

I'm not a fanboy here - I have both consoles and enjoy them both - but I'm getting tired of people saying the PS3 has no good exclusives (or xclusives, as you say)

Yes, it's off-topic. I don't understand the point of even posting this at all, and why this is worth the down vote?

On topic - I've never heard of this series at all, so digging through the Front Mission tag was interesting. Other than FFIV on DS I really can't recall the last Squarish type RPG I played on a console. FFIX maybe? God I've got to pick that up again. I think once I get around to it, the 1st traditional RPG I'll pick up will be Lost Odyssey.

why the hell do you think ps3 will fare any better take a look at valkyria chronicles. biggest flop ever. ppl think 360 isn't the console to release rpgs on but neither is ps3 by far.

That's FF, of course it's going to sell like gangbusters. A lot of SE's other stuff doesn't sell that well even on the DS, which Japan loves even more than the PS3. Outside of SE's main franchises, the PS3 probably wouldn't put up big numbers either.

Why are people making assumptions already? We aren't even sure what game it is yet, let alone if it is exclusive or not, and so what if it is?

Well considering Square only released Front Mission 5 in Japan, I'm not getting my hopes up on this one.

Watch Square-Enix hire some shitty Western developer to make this game.

I agree. I think its an edit version of the view from the empire state building. Compare it with the panorama on wikipedia.

Pull back a little more and let's see what's replaced the Metlife building in their futuristic NYC.

I'd be down for front mission, but the sound effects don't seem to match up to what a front mission game usually...sounds like. Hm, that sounds a bit more ridiculous now that I've written it down. Anyway...did anyone else notice you can make explosions if you click on the picture?

Finally my favorite mech series of all time comes to 360. (does happy dance)

Odd choice of quote if it's FM360. Kennedy's mention of abolishing "all forms of human life" was a reference to the proliferation of the hydrogen bomb, not to the idea that machine-gun toting machines may duke it out somewhere. I would expect such a quote for a Fallout title, not for a tactical mech combat game. Who knows.

This is a hard call cause if it is Front Mission which one is it based on? The side scroller Action RPG or the Simulation RTS? I will hold my rant until the final product is revealed.

The simulation one, of course. The only sidescroller was just a spin-off :P

Bleh. Personally, I'm just annoyed that they've never bothered to translate and port more of the Front Mission series. It's not like there aren't enough people who'd play it to pay for the translation costs...

Me too, but that's part of the past. If they're willing to create and localize a new Front Mission game... I'd consider myself payed.

Some of the sound effects are straight out of Front Mission 5.

i hope it's a real time combat game. I just can't get into turn based stuff..
