I don't know if it's an issue of 'too late' to the party. It's a party you have to show up at, as it looks like some flavor of motion sensing is going to be industry standard as part of a console experience going forward. I don't expect that Sony or Microsoft would have that lofty or high expectations for implementing anything like this with their current consoles, but it allows them some experience towards refining how they want to handle it on their next consoles.

You guys act like you WANT a ton of casual titles to start showing up on the 360. Complex button schemes will always appeal more to hardcore gamers over casuals. Simple motions that have no learning curve because you do them in everyday life will always appeals more to casual gamers. It's just the way things are.

Are you kidding? I would love to see more casual games on the 360. I see myself as a diverse type of gamer, I literally play all types of games. Sure, I prefer deeper experiences, but more (high-quality) casual games means I can play with a wider range of friends, not just the few who are fun to play more intense games with.

And sometimes it's nice to kick back after a great night of CoD4 with a little Peggle.

You're acting like there's no middle ground. It's fair to say that the six-axis got off to a rocky start, but as more developers figure out what it can actually be useful for and where it can more effectively bolster their games with physical input, it will become more successful. The same is true with full-range Wii-style motion controls, but with greater articulation comes greater potential.

True, there also comes the greater potential for gimicks and failures, but I'm confident we'll still see at least a few games in the future that implement it well.

Assuming this thing is real, of course.

You ACT like it matters at all if casual titles show up on the 360. Would more casual titles on the 360 make you less 1337 dude? I don't care if casual titles show up on the 360. It has no bearing on the games that I play, or the development of games that I play. Are you one of those of these dbags that think casual gaming is ruining the industry?

Cuso is right.

The Wii is already established as a family console. Whether the 360 can do it or not is irrelevant. People arn't just gonna start buying 360s. The Wii has the reputation, the 360 doesn't. End of.

F yeah, more devices to be attached to our tv. Pretty soon our LCD's will have the Wii sensing bar on the top, xbox sensing bar on the bottom, playstation eye cameras on the sides and gcon sensors somewhere in between all of that crap.

Reminds me of the first iRivers. More features than the iPod, higher capacity, better battery life, but in the end, nobody cares.

There's more of you out there than you think. Of all the people I know, only about a quarter of them use an iPod.

I'm thinking of getting a Zune myself. I like the specs and the overall design, but I'm not too thrilled about the software...

The software actually works a lot better than WMP did with my Gigabeat. You just tell it where your music is at and it loads it up. Whenever a file is added to the folder it'll automatically recognize it and sync it (if you have autosync on). I have the membership too because it's pretty convenient. I'd recommend getting one. Plus there are tons of games (though I haven't installed any, they're on my desktop ATM).

It's third party so... who cares? Doesn't even match the 360 color scheme.

Right, because color is the most important part of a peripheral's design.

The color was further proof it's 3rd party my friend. If it's not a first party product then it simply doesn't matter.

Seems the right shade of white to me. The 360 in the pic is the one that looks off-color, oddly enough.

It's not a very good picture to begin with and it's taken in a living room as opposed to an environment with controlled lighting, so the difference in color could just be a trick of the light.

Also, I doubt Microsoft would allow a third party to release a peripheral for the 360 that fundamentally modifies how gamers interact with the console without, at the very least, Microsoft's approval. Afterall, something like this isn't like a third-party controller that all existing software can make use of, it'd require software created specifically to take advantage of it. That means software within the console, ala drivers, and games to make creation and distribution of these peripherals less of a financial gamble. I really don't think any third party peripheral manufacturer could do this without Microsoft's direct involvement.

They already have allowed such a peripheral, the rumored 360 motion control wand is a 3rd party controller designed specifically for a line of games.

I see what you're saying.

But I think the other commenters have a point. It looks like it's the right color.
And if you look at the base, it's veeeery similar to the base of the 360's webcam.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was 1st party.

@Nick

They still have a stringent certification process for anything that's going to have the Xbox logo on it, which included 3rd part peripherals, like all the RB instruments.

Looks very similar to the one rumored to be in development by Sony, both of which use a design somewhat opposite to Nintendo (where the device near the TV is the image that's being captured, and the camera is in the hands of the users.

I think that if Sony and Microsoft wanted to jump into the motion sensing market, they should have done it far earlier, it was fun while it lasted, but its getting tedious now, Sony for one should have been working on this with Eye toy back before PS3 even popped out, that way they would have been able to steal some people away from the Wii market.

I dunno why they are wasting time on it now.

I remember when Microsoft jumped on this company. There software is truly amazing. Microsoft knows this will never replace a controller for all games. but with the accuracy of this software it could at least provide a few interesting games. maybe even better than the competition. I see at least a few cool boxing games. maybe there games will be as exiting as the fake wii commercials because you actually have to duck.

Please keep in mind that the person playing is obviously somewhat awkward.

Its funny... Sony says that they might do this, and their lambasted. Microsoft might do it, now it is cool.

I mean...

You guys are not politicians. It is OK to tell the truth sometimes, and not flop on it.

I will buy into this motion sensing thing, only if there are good games that support it. Same with this new '3d' tech.

An HD Wii, with more 'hardcore' games, doesn't sound so bad to me.

Watch the video below, and see if it's anything like what Nintendo's doing with the Wii:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw&feature=player_embedded

Now look who and see who's hired him:
http://johnnylee.net/

See a connection? If this is what MS is looking at doing, it moves motion gaming from the casual Nintendo style gaming to a much more hardcore usage. Imagine playing the next Ghost Recon, and to look out from behind cover, you actually lean over to see around the cover...or to sneak up behind someone, you actually crouch...
