Weekly Webcomic Wrapup celebrates Free Comic Book Day

It's probably too late to capitalize on the day's festivities if you haven't already done so, so we certainly hope you lot had the presence of mind to go grab some free funny books at your local funny book retailer today. Using a pre-planned circuit between the local comic shops and a variety of fake mustaches, we ended up harvesting enough Archie comics to last us 'til this time next year. Hopefully, your Free Comic Book Day was just as fruitful.

Below are our seven (also free!) favorite webcomics from this past week. You can vote for your favorite after the jump, or leave a comment telling us what strip we may have missed. Or you could just brag about the illustrated haul you brought in earlier today -- though we can't imagine it compares to our Archie treasure trove. That Jughead is hee-larious.

Both were very funny.

That DU comic was great. I thought for sure it was supposed to be Link's parents. Heh, poor Error. Stuck in a forest in the middle of nowhere waiting for someone, anyone, to visit him.

Another poll with no MNC? Blasphemy! Oh wait, that's right, we haven't done a videogame related comic in weeks. *Sigh* I should probably look into that...

Here were our comics from last week. No actual games referenced, except Gears 2, but maybe you've run into this guy before. This was actually (loosely) based on an actual event of my life. Creepy.

Brawl in the Family, a simple premise fleshed out to just the right depth.
Hiimdaisy made no sense, and neither did Penny Arcade, but for different reasons. Hiimdaisy is probably something i, having never played an MGS title, am merely out of the loop on, but Penny Arcade was just poorly executed

Happy to see the WWW return to its previously controversy-free status, though :)

In MGS2 it's revealed that Otacon had sex with his stepmom, causing his father to commit suicide(and I believe try to take his sister with him).

I hate Otacon so I found it hilarious.

Well that would explain why I never find it funny, and typically as one of the worst comics every time it appears.

Hiimdaisy is almost 100% metal gear solid inside jokes

Damn, April 29th came and went and I never even thought about the Big Shell. I was gonna bust out my bandanna and insist everyone call me Pliskin.

brawl in the family was great. i wish waluigi was still there though.

That was the best Digital Unrest I've ever read. It's still absolutely terrible, but you've got to learn to crawl before you walk.

I'm not sure what to vote for though. Either Brawl in the Family or Hiimdaisy's. Both are great.

AVGW speaks to my heart

Had to vote that way too, bra! Although I'm glad carpool is doing well. It was a toss up, but MvC2 is a game I adore.

I don't get it at all. I follow that apparently this was some song that was in the game, but beyond that I'm at a loss. Youtube isn't helping me figure this out.

I wanna take you for a ride was basically the theme song of Marvel vs, Capcom 2, and it would play over and over and over and over again until that happened

The "Take you for a ride" is infamous for being extremely catchy as it would play over and over again during the Vs. screen of MVC2.

Gave my vote to Virtual Shackles, although Brawl was pretty funny, too

Why exactly is BitF on top spot? Am I missing some kind of obscure joke for thirty-year-long Nintendo fanboys aside from the extremely long buildup to a weak punchline consisting of 'It's all boring and mundane until Falcon gets to drive because he's a character from F-Zero where they drive really fucking fast'?

Anywho, my vote goes to Hiimdaisy becuase the time I spent digging through MGS-wiki finally payed off as I got the joke straight away. Still pretty weak week I'm afraid...

Nah, that joke would be pretty clear to anyone who bothered to play the games and these kind of people are the comic's audience.

Me, I'm to lazy to actually play the games so I read the wiki for the sake of seeing what kind of crazy nonsense Hideo Kojima came up with.This info is mostly absorbed by my inner xenophobe who likes to laugh at those 'silly japanese people', but seeing it used to understand an MGS in-joke came off as a pleasant bonus.
