Considering Gold and Silver were awesome, I would probably look forward to remakes of those more than I would a new Pokemon game. Just the fact that it included almost the entire world from the first game was enough to make it great.

Gold & Silver = FAIL.

Why would anyone (except people older than dirt) want to buy a Pokemon game w/ NO NEW POKEMON. I can already get all the Pokemon in Gold & Silver in Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Ruby, Sapphire, & Emerald.

Only the geezer dorks are excited. Forget your shiny Pidgey and get a life.

Peace.

I find it hilarious that you're bitching about a Pokemon game while telling people to "get a life."

You know, I also find it hilarious that people who played the second Pokemon game are considered to be "geezer dorks" now. It came out like 8 or 9 years ago. Are you one of those weird people who thinks everyone over 13 is old?

Excuse me good fa-, I mean, sir BlackDS. Would you stop being a neonazi "hardcore gamer" and promptly hightail it the hell out of here? You're pretty much not wanted. No need to ruin some people's childhood because daddy touched you inappropriately.

Well now that you mention it, every Pokemon game to come out since 2001 is a remake of Pokemon Gold. Actually, they're usually worse games except for graphics and variety of moves. The remake will fix all that and make it even better. I think this might be the first time I've payed $50 for a DS game since Prime Hunters.
Plus, I'm only 15 (in no way a geyser) and I remember Pokemon Red.
Basically, I put over 700 hours into one file on Gold, over 2 or 3 YEARS, and it is my favourite game of all time after Warcraft 3. If this is a new game I will cry.

I don't know what I am more surprised by, the announcement that there will be a remake of Gold and Silver, or that there is a Pokémon Sunday variety show.

It's too close to call.

....Except that the director of the D/P/P games and the man in charge of the franchise flat out said that Pokemon will never, ever be on a console as the whole point of Pokemon is socializing and trading, and consoles are not really "go out and play with people" machines.

So no, it won't be on the Wii......unless they do a VC release. Though I doubt it. Why charge 5$ when you can charge 40$?

But there are Pokemon games on consoles. Granted, they're not the main-series RPGs, but they are actually even more multiplayer oriented than the handheld Pokemon games.

And even if you could comprehend that fact, your brain would instantaneously implode.

The speculation isn't that tenuous if you consider the fact that the Johto starters are in the new movie and are being heavily marketed with it. Add to this the fact that location data for Johto exists in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum.

I'm still skeptical about it, but I PRAY that this is what it turns out to be. Crystal is my favorite Pokemon game, and considering how good Firered/Leafgreen turned out to be, a Johto remake would rock so hard.

Yeah, shame on you for not playing Pokemon now that Game Freak have stopped putting effort into their games! Shame on you for playing the greatest RPG on the Game Boy! Shame on you for playing the playing the best Pokemon game ever made, so good that new versions simply cannot improve over it (well maybe they could if Game Freak actually tried, but they won't)! Shame on you for even suggesting that Gold, Silver and Crystal was the last great Pokemon game, before it became all about the money, and not about the people they love. :(

How cool would it be if they actually put the ENTIRE Kanto region into Gold and SIlver instead of the abbreviated versions in the original game? Imagine a Pokemon game that took 300 hours to get all 16 gym badges. Good lord.

It'd be the first Pokémon game I have bought since I got Silver. I discovered ROMs and emulators soon before Ruby and Sapphire came out so I never got them or Emerald, and the R4 just kinda stopped me getting D/P/P, which I'm glad of, because they couldn't hold my attention past the 3rd gym.

Dude aj, Diamond alone for me was like 100+ hours including the Fight/Survival/Resort Areas. I ended up getting about another 100 for going through the Battle Tower a bit, and almost another 100 from just EV training a specific team.

Pokemon, you're more addicting than World of Warcraft, and I've never even played WoW.

If this is true, watch everyone on Wi-Fi start using a Red Gyarados just because they can.

And then watch as people start comparing their egos on sites like GameFAQs over getting the perfect nature, IV's, etc. for their Red Gyarados.

I hope it would be called, "Golden Sun" and "Silver Moon," respectively. :3

Also, I hope that they'd give ALL Pokemon stat-appropriate coverage attacks.

Example: Scizor, being a physical sweeper and has a x4 weakness on Fire, why not give it access to either Earthquake or Waterfall?

@SnipeU2Lumby: Following the R/G remakes' precedent, it'd be "SunGold" and "MoonSilver" anyway, so there'd be no naming conflict. "StarCrystal" even works, if they were to go that far.

I like Pokemon but I think multiple Pokedexes made it confusing. I'm not enough of a fan to keep four different numbers for each Pokemon straight, sorry.

@rTwelve: Dawn and dusk are both basically the same color, though. ;-)

Also, calling something DawnGold would be kind of close to the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (usually just called "Golden Dawn,") something I don't think Nintendo wants Pokemon associated with (especially with the minor moral panic surrounding Pokemon in the early 2000s).

Actually, I'm beginning to think that the remakes *won't* be Sun/Moon/Star, simply because Nintendo might use those for a future generation of Pokemon. I mean, honestly - what do they use after they've used gold, silver, platinum, rubies, sapphires, emeralds, diamonds, pearls, and crystals? Stripes/Spots/Plaid? Power/Wisdom/Courage?

Remember FIREred & LEAFgreen, the GBA remakes of the Gen. I games?

My point is, any remakes are bound to have a non-metal, color-for-an-adjective name.

This would be a very happy announcement - and one I think that the community has been half-expecting. Gold and Silver were in a way indeed the best games in the series - Sure, 3rd and 4th gen deepened the battle mechanics significantly with EVs and abilities, but there was something about Gold and Silver that really captured the magic of Pokémon. And I can say that without the blinding of nostalgia, not having played Silver until well affter Diamond came out. I'm not sure if it was for the strong new Pokémon, the Johto region, or simply having two regions did it. G/S/C inexplicabley hit all the right buttons. Though I'll have you chaps know - there is already a remake of G/S, albeit a fan-made one, Shiny Gold. It's a mod("hack") of fire-red, and it's suprisingly good (Although not entirely complete, there's no Mt. Silver yet). It's really nice to have the Pokémon selection of G/S with the updated battle mechanics and graphics of the 3rd gen games.

Well, I suppose this means I won't have to do the tower in Colesseum for Ho-oh, or have to buy XD for lugia...but thats about it. I've caught all the other ones. Cept Celebi, chances are ToysRUS would do another download event for this. That I could see working.

My only other hope would be for just a few more new ones...NOT ALOT! Just a few...maybe a couple of evos or something.

Then again I just remembered, this game had the best time events...hopefully they will do even more with that!
