Wolverine movie borrowed lines from Wolverine game
Remember how when you saw the Wolverine movie yesterday, and it was at the part where Wolverine was all like "Rawrrgh! I'm going to cut on you!" and you thought that dialogue seemed pretty familiar? You may have heard that exact same line in X-Men Origins: Wolverine: The Game -- in a recent interview with Yahoo, Aussie hunk extraordinaire Hugh Jackman admitted he "was able to bring some of the lines of dialogue from the game script into the movie." Thief! Vagabond! Scoundrel!
However, since the general consensus we've heard says the game is better than the flick, perhaps this scurrilous Outbacker's shameless line thievery isn't such a bad thing.

Bought it today, even though the reviews were pretty mixed.
Played the demo and loved it.
I don't expect much, just pure fun and bloodfest.
Eric @ May 4th 2009 1:34PM
Movie sucked, Game is pretty awesome. Just wished it had it's own story and did not follow the movie. Here is hoping raven get to make another one based on there own story.
baby sea tuna @ May 4th 2009 1:34PM
Got the game Saturday, saw the move yesterday...and yes, the game is far superior.
Markez @ May 4th 2009 1:42PM
I still want to see the flick but keep hearing people say this. How on earth did this come out as a bad movie? What sucks about it? Seems like this would be a hard project to screw up.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 4th 2009 1:54PM
I haven't see it but I thought the movie was going to suck for 2 reasons:
1-Xmen 3 sucked and it was more like Wolverine and The X-men and the Phoenix Saga storyline got fuxx0r3d pretty bad.So there was no reason for me to believe this one was going to be good.
2-The moment I saw Deadpool in the trailer I knew this was going to suck.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 4th 2009 1:55PM
@Markez
Well I'M CERTAINLY GLAD YOU ASKED!!!
1. You know how Wolverine is known for his violence and bad-assery in the comics? Known of that is present in this film. But what you do get is Wolverine befriending old people. Yep. Totally captures the essence of the character don't ya think?
2. Horrible CGI is horrible. It makes this movie even more hilarious since Fox was making such a big deal about the workprint lacking the special effects.
3. Continuity problems with the original trilogy. Like Stryker suddenly lacking a british accent(also the awesomeness of Brian Cox) or how the actual Weapon X scenes are nothing like the awesome flashbacks from X2.
4. worthless fanservice. So many different characters who have no reason to be in this film other than to attempt to make fanboys jizz in their pants. It didn't work to well.
5. So how do we get Wolverine to forget his memory. With a good old helping of Deus Ex Machina aka, adamantium bullets!!
I can go on and on, but I think these are the main reasons why this film is horrible.
The game is so much better.
Eric @ May 4th 2009 1:56PM
The fact there is no plot at all. Lame dialog, no character development at all for anyone. It's just a bunch of action sequences with nothing but lame filler in between. That have no respect for the weapon X story line at all. Plus the way that he losses his memories is just dumb and lazy. They have characters in the movie for no reason at all but to sell toy's and make spin off's.
Markez @ May 4th 2009 2:03PM
Bleh, sounds like a rental down the line then. Can't wait for Star Trek, might have to see that this weekend, only 2 reviews are in at metacritic and both are 100.
I'm getting some weird glitch on the Stiq since yesterday, page will reload itself and go blank...
Markez @ May 4th 2009 2:04PM
lulz, both reviews make warp speed puns.
baby sea tuna @ May 4th 2009 2:17PM
Yes, what they said. Plus, for a character as dry and sarcastic as Wolverine usually is, the entire movie is virtually devoid of any humor. We ended up providing our own, when we weren't being lulled to sleep by the sheer amount of boredom between crappy action cliches. (seriously, who still puts people walking in slow motion away from explosions in movies completely un-ironically?)
Still, I don't think it shat on the characters as much as X3 did.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 4th 2009 2:36PM
What are you talking about? Remember at the old people's house where clumsy Wolverine accidentally breaks stuff with his claws? That was hilarious!!!!
I'm dead inside!!!
baby sea tuna @ May 4th 2009 2:46PM
And they didn't even bother to take the easy route and put in a thinly veiled bathroom-masturbation allusion.
Also, I really wanted to see Pa Kent come out to the barn and find a naked Wolverine hiding his modesty with a well placed sheep or pig. No such luck.
Avada Kadavra 9 @ May 4th 2009 1:35PM
I went to see the movie yesterday. I saw better CGI in the 1980's it was horrible, very Roger Rabitish CGI - horrible, just horrible.
xFenixKnightx @ May 4th 2009 1:40PM
I knew it! Even from the previews the special effects seem like they were from a made for TV movie. Friggin cheap asses! FAIL! I'm trying the demo though, game looks cool.
Obie @ May 4th 2009 1:41PM
Yeah, a shame. Hugh was fine, but many parts of the movie felt very cheap and unpolished. And don't even get me started on what they did with DeadPool.
RiccochetJ @ May 4th 2009 1:43PM
Haven't seen the movie yet, but this news is surprising considering the budget was rumored to be in the 140mil range.
Obie @ May 4th 2009 1:45PM
The budget probably went to all those big stars with 2 minute cameos. :p
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 4th 2009 1:57PM
Fenix is right the effects in the trailer look horrible.
Also Emma Frost is a powerfull Psychic not flipping ice woman! Haven't they read the comics. In the trailer DeadPool looks like Cliffy B.
Obie @ May 4th 2009 2:02PM
Oh yeah Avada, don't knock Roger Rabbit, that was all hand-drawn animation and old fashioned compositing. No CGI there. :)
Markez @ May 4th 2009 2:05PM
When I killed your brother I talked JUST..LIKE..THIIIISSSS!
Dirty @ May 4th 2009 2:12PM
Ha ha, I said the same thing about it (the Rodger Rabbit look). When he was looking at his new claws in the bathroom it was sooooo bad.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 4th 2009 2:15PM
It just seems to me that Fox made this film as cheaply as possible since they knew that people were going to see this regardless of the quality. That way they make the most amount of money.
baby sea tuna @ May 4th 2009 2:19PM
Ugh, those claws. Seriously, didn't they have the practical versions left over from the other 3 movies' prop departments?
N3M3515 @ May 4th 2009 4:20PM
The claws reflect laser beams! Honestly the best comedy of the year.
Mez Jr @ May 4th 2009 5:25PM
Actually, in the comics Emma Frost gains the ability to turn her skin to diamonds after the wild sentinals destroy Genosha. Though, cannot use her telepathy when in diamond.

Check the powers column.
MystileArmor @ May 4th 2009 1:41PM
You know, I honestly thought the movie was allright. It wasn't great or a mind-blowing experience, but it was allright.
I didn't care too much for the demo. Graphics were really good and parts where you're attacking the chopper were pretty cool for example. But I couldn't picture myself wanting to play through the whole thing.
But,.. that's just me. I'm pretty sure I got a ton of games in my collection no one else gives a flying rats ass about, so...
Archon (PSN: Archonik, XBL: DarkARHN) @ May 4th 2009 1:50PM
Graphics? Really good? "Ok" at best.
MystileArmor @ May 4th 2009 2:03PM
My bad.. you're right they were "ok". Should've put more thought in my choice of words.
ck @ May 5th 2009 12:14AM
Yeah, people were upset about this movie, but hell yeah I had a good time watching it. Will it be one of my favorite movies? No, but it was good. I don't give a damn about the comic book origin of Wolverine - the way they did it in the movie worked fine.
Freak Mojo @ May 4th 2009 1:46PM
Does the game have any multiplayer at all? I'd love some co-op hack and slash fun...
And with Toys R Us offering a $10 gift card with the game purchase, I'm, tempted tog et my superhero fix on this with the recent deal of the Batman game.
uncle jesse @ May 4th 2009 1:49PM
I saw this on the weekend, too. At first, I came away disappointed, but then my buddy (who knows nothing about the comics) was saying how much he loved it and how it was just pure entertainment. Then I realized, if you take a step back and try not to nerd out on it so much (I'm a HUGE comic book geek and always hate when they change things from the page to the screen), and just watch it as a summer popcorn flick... it's pretty enjoyable. That being said, did I love it? No. Did i hate it? No. It was an entertaining popcorn flick with good action.
I really wanted to pick up the game this weekend. I went to Best Buy and it was 70 bucks?! 70 dollars?! I can wait.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 4th 2009 2:14PM
I couldn't even do that? Even as a typical action film the movie is so uninspired that it actually is pretty boring. It just felt the scriptwriters felt the need to stick as many tired cliches into this film.
Brothers facing off and eventually fighting together? Check
Wolverine looking for revenge after the woman he loves is killed? Check
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Check.
and lets not forget:
Walking in slomotion as something behind you explodes. Check.
KingOfGods @ May 4th 2009 2:26PM
I've noticed this with a lot of different electronics at Best Buy. They raised their prices since the close of Circuit City.
uncle jesse @ May 4th 2009 2:51PM
I want this game badly, but 70 bucks just doesn't seem right at all.
Here's a question for you peoples - how much did/would you pay for this game? What's it worth?
RiccochetJ @ May 4th 2009 3:00PM
It's a rental. I rented it, and It's a ton of fun, but you can get through all of it in 8 - 10 hours and there's not much reason to go through it again other than to play the unlocked 'hard' mode. I would only recommend buying if you're a HUGE Wolverine fan.
Eric @ May 4th 2009 1:51PM
How you screw up a movie about wolverine's origin is beyond me, if they would have just stuck to the comic's story and worried less about putting in characters that do not belong there so they can have spin off's it could have been great.
Honestly the film should have been in the same vain as First Blood. God what a wasted opportunity.
baby sea tuna @ May 4th 2009 2:21PM
OMG, speaking of First Blood, rent/buy "Son of Rambow." So excellent.
Eric @ May 4th 2009 2:26PM
I own it and yes it is awesome.
uncle jesse @ May 4th 2009 1:57PM
Markez:
Basically, the worst thing in the movie was what they did with Deadpool. They ruined him. The other problem for me was that they just tried to jam in so many characters it started to feel a bit like X3, but thank god it never got that bad.
I say check it out. it's still fun and entertaining. Hugh Jackman still kicks ass in that role, too. If they continue with the X-Men/Wolverine they will fail if Jackman isn't involved.
snife @ May 4th 2009 2:16PM
I enjoyed the film - it wasn't a Masterpiece and had some fairly bad points which made no sense but it was a decent action/superhero movie but I don't understand why everyone is getting hung up on Deadpool. Ryan Reynoulds was good as Wade Wilson and Weapon XI was played by a different actor so, despite some similarities, I do not think that was even Deadpool.
baby sea tuna @ May 4th 2009 2:23PM
But Stryker actually called him "Deadpool"...though in the comics, I'm pretty sure Weapon XI was a different character.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 4th 2009 2:26PM
Stryker used Dead(lol he's kinda dead) Pool(a pool of mutant powers, GENIUS!!!) in another(stupid) way.
And even if that's not deadpool, it doesn't change the fact that the character was fucking stupid and seemed like it came out of a horrible video game.
uncle jesse @ May 4th 2009 2:48PM
No, unfortunately that really was Ryan Reynolds at the end of the movie. That was Deadpool. Stryker calls him that in the film and Logan also calls him Wade and then says that they finally found a way to shut him up after seeing that his mouth was sealed shut.
bongoes @ May 4th 2009 4:15PM
Spoilers
But the extra ending fixed the problem, for the most part.
The Dark Wayne @ May 4th 2009 4:22PM
actually bongoes there are apparently 3 different extra endings, a different one for different theaters. One of them has Wade Wilson walk up to Weapon XI and say what the hell are you supposed to be? Another one has Weapon XI's hand twitch then pan to his face where he makes a shhh motion, and a third less important one where Wolverine is in a japanese bar "drinking to remember"
uncle jesse @ May 4th 2009 4:28PM
Oh wow, I was only aware of two different endings. The one with Deadpool's blade retracting and his hand searching through the debris, finding his severed head and his eyes opening to say "shhhhh" and the other one with Logan having a drink "to remember" in Japan.
The third ending you described with Wade seeing a clone of himself? would make things much better and leave it open for a continuation of his character, considering they pretty much wrecked him. I wish I had seen that one. I've seen the other endings but can't find that one around anywhere. Link?
Thanks Wayne.
Boffo the $ock @ May 4th 2009 4:58PM
". One of them has Wade Wilson walk up to Weapon XI and say what the hell are you supposed to be?"
This is the first I've heard of this one. Do you have any sort of link for confirmation? I'd be pleased as punch to learn that this is true.

Dirty @ May 4th 2009 2:18PM
Really the movie wasn't so horrible that it wasn't worth watching. I think people just take these movies too seriously. Of course they are going to screw up deadpool. Its a movie about a guy with a metal skeleton. Get over it and just enjoy yourself. Half assed rant over.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 4th 2009 2:24PM
"ts a movie about a guy with a metal skeleton"
Please elaborate, because I don't understand how just because it's a movie about a guy who is indestructable means that I shouldn't mind when the movie shits on characters that I read about in my comics or the horrible dialogue. I'd like to hear your answer.
And I would love to have fun watching this movie, only problem is that there was nothing entertaining about it.
Unless you mean to completely mock it, then I guess it does have some entertainment value.
