Capcom: Marvel vs. Capcom 3 'not part of deal' to re-release MvC2

The same is true for a North American release of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. "It's a lot of 'dance with the lawyers' on that one," explained Killian. "The rights holders for Tatsunoko in Japan are one company, but in the U.S. it's ... 13 companies -- and some are very attentive and some are not." So if you've been holding your breath for this one, you might want to consider coming up for air.
Killian also told Joystiq that Capcom is considering releasing Marvel vs. Capcom 2-branded arcade sticks (à la the popular SFIV controllers). "It's a discussion ... we would love to make it happen. If you saw the 'leak' of those MadCatz sticks, that was actually B.S. That was a complete fabrication, but it's something we would love to do."

So I can have this cake, but I cant eat it too?
xGeneral DEATHx @ May 5th 2009 2:14PM
They won't even give back yer bukkit...what makes you think they'll let you eat cake?!
:-p
Mystic @ May 5th 2009 4:25PM
Wow, can you imagine CvsM 3 with SFIV graphics?! That would be amazing!
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ May 5th 2009 11:42PM
@Mystic
THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!!
Youthinized @ May 5th 2009 12:29PM
I would buy MvC2 styled sticks in an instant!
But please not madcatz this time, or have them put good parts in the SE.
Pip @ May 6th 2009 10:50AM
Madcatz did good by allowing all the real arcade parts to be plug and play in their sticks. It doesn't excuse them for selling a $70 stick with sub-par parts, but honestly, upgrading the parts yourself is so easily done for a little extra cost, it kind of makes it feel like your own personalized stick.
The real problem is the parts stores keep running out of the Sanwa buttons, sticks, and gates. Who knew the 2D fighting genre was going to absolutely blow up like it has? It's amazing!!
Smalfri2 @ May 5th 2009 12:28PM
Well lets hope MvC2 does good, fingers crossed!!!! & I really would want a Marvel vs. Capcom 2 branded arcade sticks, so sick.
xGeneral DEATHx @ May 5th 2009 2:04PM
It's funny how tastes change over time. I used to think buying an arcade stick was a superfluous waste of money, but the other night I played this demo and thought one thing: Holy SHIT my hands are CRAMPINNNNNNNNNNNNNNG!!!! If not for the aesthetic eye-pleasure, a nice MvC2-branded stick would definitely save my poor aging hands. I don't EVER remember having such issues on the Dreamcast. BRING IT!
Dope juice @ May 5th 2009 12:29PM
cant wait for this to be released im gonna have to buy a good arcade stick for all the fighting games coming out this year
ryan @ May 5th 2009 12:30PM
Support MVC3 by buying MVC2? Ok, I'll help that cause. :D
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 5th 2009 2:47PM
As long they include Dante,Viewtiful Joe,DeadPool,Nextwave Agents of H.A.T.E or the zombi versions of any of the Marvel heroes in the next one sure.Oh who I'm kidding i'll buy it anyway.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 5th 2009 4:13PM
"Nextwave Agents of H.A.T.E"
THIS SO FUCKING MUCH!!!
Maybe that will get Ellis to actually come up with a new Next Wave comic.
solaxo @ May 5th 2009 12:32PM
That sucks, I would love to see an MVC 3. While I loved MVC2 like Street fighter 2, the updated graphics engine and gameplay in Street Fighter 4 is soo much better. Was wishful thinking that MVC 3 would follow the same path and be on my must have games list sooner than later.
Come on licensing issues; there is money to be made here!
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ May 5th 2009 12:38PM
How about Capcom scraps with DC? (Midway did it no justice) I wouldn't mind some DarkHorse characters either.
NaeemTHM @ May 5th 2009 12:47PM
Imagine a DC vs Marvel VS Capcom game?!
I know the very thought of such a godly game is enough to shake the very foundation of reality...but a fanboy can dream can't he?
NoughtSoClever @ May 5th 2009 12:52PM
Or better yet, just do Capcom Vs Mortal Kombat!...wait...on second thought, don't.
hector88 @ May 5th 2009 1:03PM
DC would not be possible. Historically Capcom has only fought franchises that weren't doing well enabling Capcom to scoop up the license cheap. Examples: Marvel (before the movies essentially revived the franchise), SNK (SNK was about to go under around that time), and most recently Tatsunoko which wasn't doing very well in Japan.
Kizzle @ May 5th 2009 1:56PM
If you didn't like MK vs. DC, go play in traffic. That game was a blast. Sick of pseudo-elitist 'tards knocking it just because it was Mortal Kombat.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 5th 2009 4:22PM
"How about Capcom scraps with DC?"
Awesome. So now we can have people bitching about why can't Superman destroy Spiderman.
Mr Khan @ May 5th 2009 5:42PM
@hector88. Interesting. Perhaps that indicates that Sega vs Capcom is coming soon :P
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ May 5th 2009 11:41PM
@Kizzle
I think your sense of humor is impeccable! Bravo sir your sarcasm is not lost on me!
Whatever kid, D.C. v MK was only enjoyable in an "Ed Woodian" sense. Furthermore you can fu*k yourself very hard in your prissy little ass for wishing violence on me over Mortal Kombat Vs. D.C..
jarhead906 @ May 5th 2009 12:50PM
Why is it that these screens are always showing the Marvel team raping the daylights out of the Capcom team?
NoughtSoClever @ May 5th 2009 12:54PM
"MAHVEL BAYBEE!"
NaeemTHM @ May 5th 2009 1:01PM
Simple, most Capcom characters don't have the ability to PWN NOOBS. I mean do you really think Strider dude can take on Ironman and Wolverine?!
Ryu can master all the fighting styles he wants, but it's not going to help him when the Incredible Hulk farts in his general direction and blows him off the face of the earth.
WRE @ May 5th 2009 1:01PM
Looks more like an imminent upside down bear hug to me.
Magetto @ May 5th 2009 1:34PM
I don't see any mango sentinels on the Capcom team.
baby sea tuna @ May 5th 2009 2:03PM
A mango sentinel sounds DELICIOUS! I could go for one right now!
a1j2h5 @ May 5th 2009 1:23PM
Still teasing us for the possibility of MvC3!
They're really "Taking us for a ride"
*Ba Dun PISHHHH*
ha ha haaa... err... haaaa.......haaaaaaa........*ahem*
joey @ May 5th 2009 1:04PM
IF THEY DO MVC3, LETS HOPE ITS IN GLORIOUS 21st CENTURY 3D! YOU KNOW, LIKE SF4!
silverwolf761 @ May 5th 2009 2:23PM
no
M@sterShake @ May 5th 2009 1:06PM
I'll gladly support this cause as well, hell I'll buy like 50 copies if it means MvC3 will come out...
They don't even need to add any other companies to the fray they just need to update the roster with some missing marvel heroes and newer capcom people
just a few possibilities
Capcom: Viewtiful Joe, Dante, Wesker, Sagat, Tons of other SF characters, Rival Schools characters, Zero and Sigma from Megaman, Okami, etc.
Marvel: Carnage, Thor, Ghost Rider, Deadpool, The Beast, you guys get the point, there's endless Marvel heroes
Shignami @ May 5th 2009 1:27PM
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom had Titan characters such as PTX-40A from Lost Planet that took up both character slots.
But with THREE characters per team...
I'm thinking Galactus
Letters2Kay @ May 5th 2009 2:21PM
Looking at the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom screens, I see that Soki from Onimusha Dawn of Dreams was playable...
I could give a crap about the Tatsunoko half, but the Capcom lineup looks awesome. I wonder what other Onimusha characters were included... :(
Do want.
Cosmo @ May 5th 2009 1:06PM
Marvel, just give the fucking green light to do Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, RIGHT NOW.
phinnvr6 @ May 5th 2009 1:11PM
WTF is MVC3 it doesn't even exist I thought? The MvC 2 demo was fun though, got bored of only 6 characters after an hour or so though
Kenny Powers Fastball (PSN johnnynumber5) @ May 5th 2009 1:50PM
I think that's kind of the point. They want to make a Marvel vs Capcom 3 but licensing is an issue with Marvel. If MvC2 sells well it could persuade Marvel to do another title in the series.
Stix Remix @ May 5th 2009 1:23PM
Does anyone else think it's weird how all the characters in the picture have their arms spread open?
It's almost like this is MVC2:Group Hug
xGeneral DEATHx @ May 5th 2009 3:31PM
LoLz, I was thinking the same thing.
"Let's hug it out, bitch."
Kenny Powers Fastball (PSN johnnynumber5) @ May 5th 2009 1:31PM
I had the feeling Tatsunoko vs Capcom probably wouldn't release outside of Japan. Hopefully the licensing issues get straightened out and that game releases over here because it does look awesome.
Think about all the cool fighting games that have already released and are still coming out this year.
Released:
Street Fighter IV
Soul Calibur 4
Rag Doll Kung-Fu
Smash Bros Brawl
Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm
MK vs DCU
DBZ Burst Limit
SSF2 HD RMX
Battle fantasia
Coming Soon:
UFC Undisputed
Fight Night RD 4
BlazBlue
Tekken 6
Marvel vs Capcom 2
Punch Out
King Of Fighters XII
TMNT Smash Up
Tatsunoko vs Capcom (hopefully)
Final Fantasy Dissidia
Probably some I'm forgetting as well. I'm hopeful that we get a new Killer Instinct and/or re-releases of the old ones with online play. I would also kill for a new version of Powerstone with online play. It's almost as if we are seeing the genre come back from the dead to be relevant again.
Mr Khan @ May 5th 2009 5:47PM
Never thought of it that way. Makes the fighting genre look downright healthy
Though UFC and Punch-Out!! might be stretching it a bit. I would consider UFC a sports game, and i'm not really sure how to classify Punch-Out!!
As for Tatsunoko vs., i think its an issue of idiocy on the part of the North American license holders. Its not like those Tatsunoko properties are worth anything (otherwise people would have actually heard of them), so agreeing to TvC would be the most profitable use of those licenses that those companies are ever going to see.
doctorwho1 @ May 5th 2009 2:43PM
REPRINT the game on the PS2.
Sure, Capcom is bringing it online, but this is also an opportunity to capitalize and profit on the many many many people who want to play this game but don't have the next-gen consoles. Given the game's (1) already localized, (2) ready to reprint, and (3) demand is there -- just give it the greatest hit treatment already.
Do that for the fans, Capcom!
Nael M. @ May 5th 2009 6:55PM
Not going to happen, not by a long shot. The PS2 version is too different from the arcade and Dreamcast original to really sell to the diehard MvC2 fans that have been waiting for this downloadable version (and who will likely be the biggest audience for this game). It's been stated that the Marvel license Capcom currently has only applies to this downloadable version of MvC2 so even if they have the means to reprint the PS2 version, they likely contractually can't do so.
