I wonder if this game will be anywhere as good as Crystal Bearers for Wii?

Crystal Bearers actually looks really good. I doubt it's going to be anywhere near the level of XIII, but I love the Skies of Arcadia-esque feel it has going.

I don't know, Cody. It's only the next iteration of their flagship franchise thats been in development a billion years. I'm sure SE thinks & hopes it's better than Crystal Bearers. Why would you even ask that question in this thread? It's like you are just wanting to troll for no reason. I can't imagine you were actually being sincere.

There is no way it will be as good as a Wii game. That would be impossible, without it being made for the Wii of course, Cause the Wii is the only good console and graphics don't matter whatsoever for a title like this one. Did I mention that the Wii is the only console that a game should ever be made for because it is so great and the others are so lame and should all burn in hell for not being Wii's? Well, there ya go.

How am I doing Cody? Can I be in the Wiiclub now?

@Snowblind: I was not a fan of Skies of Arcadia and would go so far as calling it boring and generic, in MY opinion.

One of the things I learned while playing FFX2 is why I like FF games-- it's not that they've got great storylines, great characters, great battle systems, or great music. Everything that's great about one FF is flawed (or at least mediocre) in another. The reason I like them, and keep coming back to them despite repeatedly finding I dislike various entries (possibly even a majority!), is because they do things differently. The juction/GF in FF8, for example, was deeply flawed, clumsy, and annoying. But it was different. Likewise with FFX's sphere grid, Aeons, Overdrive. FFXI's online play is still unique among MMOs, although the battle system drags on after a few years. FF12's story and music were pretty dull, but it's one of my favorite games in the series partially because of that.

FF8's junction system was not flawed at all. You just sucked at it.

Jinsenkin, you can junction enough magic to go through the game at level 5; and plenty of people do so that they can get Cactuar and level their characters with ridiculous stats. That is hideously broken. Trust me, I didn't suck at it, it was just a very poorly executed system. I made more than full use of it, and it didn't make the game any more difficult at all-- just more clunky.

What about their commitment to release the 360 version at the same time in North America? If it takes Square Enix six months just to translate a game, how long would it take them to translate a game AND port the code to 360? Despite Kitase's assurances, I think we're in for a long wait.

Square has been remarkably silent on that since they announced the 360 version. I haven't even heard if they have started work on it yet.

I would lay odds that you are not going to see a simultaneous release with the PS3 and 360 versions. Square has been cooking XIII for a long time now, and they need to start making back some of that investment by getting this game out there. This announcement about fast-tracking the localization is just more evidence that Square is starting to feel the fire under their feet.

hell, i only own a 360, but in all honesty, if the game is finished on the ps3, and the 360 has longer than a month left, just let them have it early. who gives a crap, we all get to play it in the long run. a couple games have come out on the 360 then went to the ps3 a year later, and were still good. i can wait a couple months.

They did say they wouldn't release the PS3 version until the 360 one was done, and that they wouldn't start the 360 version until the Japanese PS3 version was done. Which would really, really suck, but it might have been bullshit. They may have had some contractual obligation to say that at E3 (and maybe to make efforts toward that goal) but not to follow through.

If they have any choice in the matter, surely they won't give up massive early profits by just sitting on a finished, localized version of the game for 6+ months.

we're in for a long wait no matter which version you want (ps3 or x360). I'm just afraid that if I buy the PS3 version and the x360 comes out (for sake of argument) a year later, that the x360 will be a GOTY edition with alot of extra content for the same $60 (or less) that the original game was for the PS3.

regardless, it's still on my "must buy" list. damn squeenidos.

FFXIII was developed on PC with Crystal Tools, with the PS3 in mind.. As Crystal Tools knows all the timings, it should take so long to get it ported.. but then, as much as I don't mind swapping discs, it's getting it onto 4 discs for the best possible experience. there's somekind of fee for every disc from third onwards (to the pub/dev?).. maybe they'll be an optional code on the back of the book for a download that has all the side quests..
I wouldn't mind if it was a 'digitally distributed' title for those with the space on their HDDs

all i know is that i really want this game. this article is really good news but that "PS3/360 simultaneous US release" is killing me. MS must have payed a pretty penny for that. this was always a game i was going to buy on PS3 anyway so they are just holding me up is all. i realize it's going to be a long wait but at least they are trying to speed it up it seems.

Question, why is it MGS4 can come out worldwide with more than likely just as much voice work yet you take 6 months PLUS?

Get ur shit 2gether Square.

Use some of that money MS gave you and do the localizations at the SAME TIME!!!!!

Yes I did round eye. I don't care if they are doing SOME of the work while completing the Japanese version...my point was they should be doing ALL of the work at the SAME time so that they can have a worldwide release at the.....stay with me now, heres where it gets tricky for you simple folk....SAME TIME!!!!!!!

and a quick FYI that most did not catch and I admit was rather clever on MS's part.

MS said that ff13 would release in all regions at the same time. They never said that it will release at the same time as the PS3 version. So what that means is the 360 version will release at the same time in the EU and North America.

The PS3 version for at least NA will come out b4 the 360 version does. Book it, lead pipe lock it, cue up the fat lady.

goto 3:31 of the video.

Tell me where it says at the SAME TIME as the PS3 version in NA and EU.

available on xbox 360 at launch in north america and europe.

It just says at launch, at lauch of what? the PS3 version? Never not one time did they say at the announcement or anytime after that the 360 version will come out at the same time as the PS3 version.

Its just clever wording and it has duped 99% of the gaming blog populace.

Here is an idea.

why not ASK ms or square directly if the 360 version is coming out on the SAME DATE as the PS3 version for NA and EU?

I think it will be interesting to see how the 360 and the PS3 versions compare to each other. It will be a testament to Square's coding ability if the 360 version isn't lacking in content or graphics due to the size limitations...

I find it interesting the best version of the recent Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games have been the "International" version released in Japan after the Europe/North American version and where they have Japanese subtitles and English dubbing. I guess they find English to be exotic and cool and vice versa over here.

I agree. Whenever I play games, I typically turn on Japanese language with English subtitles, if I can. I usually find it to be far superior to English VAs.

I'm big on anime, however, and I watch a ton of English subs, so that's probably where my love for Japanese language/English subtitles come from.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this game actually developed for the PC so that it could easily be ported to whatever consoles it needed to be released on? I know a lot of people think Microsoft stepped in and persuaded Square to release it on the 360, but I'm fairly sure they've probably had the 360 in mind for quite some time.

"I know a lot of people think Microsoft stepped in and persuaded Square to release it on the 360, but I'm fairly sure they've probably had the 360 in mind for quite some time."

So, just like others are fairly certain MS threw SE a bag of cash? If you don't have some kind of proof there wasn't a deal involved then it's just a hunch.

"Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this game actually developed for the PC so that it could easily be ported to whatever consoles it needed to be released on?"

The game was developed for the PS3 using the "Crystal Tools Set" which has interpolarity with both the PS3 & 360. However, the game has been built from the start with the PS3's hardware and architecture in mind. The good news about that is it's easier (from a developer perspective) to port from the PS3 to the 360 than it is to go from the 360 to the PS3. In the end it will all hinge on how long SE takes to ensure it's a quality port.

Can someone explain why I was voted down, or is it just because the fanboys are out?

The game is costing Square millions to make, logic dictates that they're going to want to make that money back, releasing the game soley on the PS3 doesn't seem like such a great way of going about that, in the same way many other games have become multiplatform with this generation.

I know it was developed with the PS3 in mind, but the whole Crystal Tools thing alone indicates that they've always had plans to put it elsewhere too.
