Gameloft and Sega Europe strike licensing agreement for mobile content
Gameloft, one of the world's leading mobile game producers, has struck an agreement with Sega Europe to produce mobile content based on Sega properties. The first game that will come from this new partnership will be a mobile version of Sonic Unleashed, which will feature "high-speed 2D side-scrolling action." Sadly, it will also feature The Werehog.
There's no word on what other titles Gameloft will produce for the mobile space, but European cellphone enthusiasts (if there are such things) can find Sonic Unleashed on their mobile phones sometime in June.

@ Dirty
But you could still beat it to death, again.

Sonic's been dead since 1995... he's just bones now...

Uhm. . . *half raised hand* . . . I actually like the Sonic Adventure games, as well as Unleashed. . . .

KILL THE BLASPHEMER!
Ok, but seriously, here's the problem IMHO...
From Wikipedia: "Hirokazu Yasuhara is a Japanese video game designer and Sonic Team's 2nd Assistant President. He *designed* the *gameplay* and *stages* of the majority of the initial Sonic the Hedgehog video games (...) Yasuhara stayed with the franchise until 1994 (...) He then joined Naughty Dog, working on the Jak and Daxter series and 'Uncharted'."
...and that, in a nutshell, is where it all went wrong. Sonic & Knuckles kicked ass, but then they lost their genius designer and it was the beginning of the end.

Expect the following to be released as well:
Altered Beast
Comix Zone
Shinobi
Sonic 1
Sonic 2
Every damn game that was re-re-re-released over the past two years.
Oh, but still not Ranger X.
uncle jesse @ May 6th 2009 5:48PM
That pic pretty much sums it up
phobic99 @ May 6th 2009 5:48PM
They couldn't have gone with something like Sonic 2 for the iPhone/mobile instead? No?
Meh.

"Werehog side-scrolling actually sounds pretty kickass. It would be like playing Ristar again!

Sega is on crack.
manyquestions @ May 6th 2009 7:15PM
From what I understand, Gameloft will be the one actually developing the games, so it's not like this will take away from Sega's ability to keep making console games. And it's not like any cell phone games based on Sega characters are going to be cannon or affect the popularity/appeal/quality/any aspect of the main series AT ALL.
Given that, I really don't see what the big deal is. Most of the people complaining now probably won't even pay attention when these games are released, and when all is said and done, you will still view Sonic exactly as you would have had this deal never been signed.
Bubbameister33 @ May 6th 2009 7:17PM
Are those shoes patent leather?
WINterfang @ May 6th 2009 9:53PM
Humm so I don't have to wait to get home to get my Sonic Unleashed fix?
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!
*still waiting for a DS version sadly*
yomachaser @ May 7th 2009 8:29AM
I see you guys don't play many Gameloft games. This is potentially a huuuge win as Gameloft has been one of the best devs in the mobile space and iphone gaming.
If Sega were developing these games then yeah tears of sadness because Sega has sucked for ages ,but Gameloft actually makes great games like Hero of Sparta.
