I think there's a chance that The Conduit will be the Wii's Halo. Halo's big contribution is that many saw it greatly improving the dual analog stick controls, which lead to the popularity of console FPS.

Microsoft hyped Halo (a launch game) and ensured its exclusivity for the Xbox by buying Bungie. So, between that and the fact that you could pick up and play it, Halo secured success. Halo wasn't innovative, but it was very well done and fun with optimized graphics to make the most of the Xbox, which wasn't as powerful as the higher end PCs.

The Conduit doesn't benefit from being a launch title, but it is coming at a good time for Wii owners--there's been a lull in high quality games and FPS. Sega is hyping The Conduit, which is a necessity. And HVS hasn't created just great, tight controls for The Conduit--they are creating the most customizable controls, which should ensure that the controls are tight and great for everyone. Add to that the IR control is more intuitive for looking around and aiming, gamers might find this one of the easiest console FPS to jump in and play.

I doubt The Conduit will see 5 million sold units, but I would be surprised if it hit 2 million and if it spawned more FPS games for the Wii.

How come they have put all the shaders and bumpmaps onto the (incredibly shiny) player models... yet the environments are totally flat.

A couple of small bump-maps or detail textures on the walls would make this game look 100 times better.

It's too early to tell what they have done with the world. Your not going to see the full effect of a bump map until your very close to the object, which is next to impossible in a low res video or screenshot. They did show off many rendering techniques in their tech demo's, but about the only one you can clearly see from the gameplay footage is the water.
