Red Dead Redemption gets first trailer
Red Dead Revolver is a great game that never got the credit it was due. That's enough to keep us awake anticipating this fall's follow-up, Red Dead Redemption, but we realize the non-believers among you may need some convincing.
To that end, we present this stylish, piping hot trailer. Sure it still seems a little weird to have former lead Red Harlow replaced by former outlaw John Marston, but with a dearth of solid western games on the market, we'll take it where we can get it.

I loved Red Dead Revolver

Ugh, same. I can't wait for this game.
Arnie @ May 6th 2009 3:16PM
Never played the first one, but the trailer looks interesting.
Sayed @ May 6th 2009 3:16PM
Can't wait, MUST BUY!!!
P.S. if you never played the original, your missing out ^_^
Tim Parsons @ May 6th 2009 3:18PM
hell thats an understatement.
nofriendo @ May 6th 2009 3:17PM
Rad. Rockstar writes the best dialogue in gaming. Hands down.

Red Dead Revolver was Amazing. Great story , great gameplay, great charactors and great Voice Acting.
the only good western since it was Gun. Those are the best to Western themed video games ever and they were both great.
can't wait for this game
John @ May 6th 2009 6:40PM
Is that a joke? Gun was atrocious.
Deck @ May 6th 2009 6:58PM
@John: Seriously? GUN was a very much under looked gem. Sure it was "outdated" for the 360 and the side missions were awful and pointless but the actual fundamental gameplay was solid and the story was well done.
MLS @ May 6th 2009 3:23PM
Red Dead Redemption, Call of Juarez, Red Steel 2...
Cowboys are the new zombies.
O.DOGG @ May 6th 2009 3:37PM
I'd love to see that one come out for the PC.
Jerk Face @ May 6th 2009 4:16PM
Is it just me or do the graphics in this game look fantastic?
I never played the original, and I think I might just have to. I love me a good Western.
Blah @ May 6th 2009 5:53PM
I kinda think they vary. There's a lot of aliasing and the shadows look pretty bad. But the horses looked really good as well as some other stuff. It's probably still early stages though.
KwietStorm @ May 6th 2009 4:19PM
Is that picture from the new game or the original? Because those graphics look really bad, especially the gun mesh.
John @ May 6th 2009 6:42PM
Since when do superior graphics have anything to do with the game being good?
KwietStorm @ May 6th 2009 7:48PM
I don't remember saying a single word about how good the game is..
Robert Maynard @ May 6th 2009 10:06PM
It's the RAGE engine, same as GTA IV, but these would naturally have to be pre-beta, maybe even pre-alpha graphics. Pretty impressive for what it is.
Erluti @ May 6th 2009 4:20PM
I'm pretty psyched, that looks sweet.
Although, I could really do without another game that has a chaingun on rails sequence. That's getting pretty played out.
Aj Collins @ May 6th 2009 4:30PM
Here's the trailer with out the IGN watermark or crappy player.

I hope this one gets a PC release that revolver skipped out on. Rockstar seems to be warming up to the PC so I think its possible.
King JMY @ May 6th 2009 5:44PM
Really looking forward to this, Red Dead Revolver was one of my favorite PS2 games (the local multiplayer was awesome).
fangspeeps @ May 6th 2009 6:03PM
Here's the potential problem I see: Great atmosphere, writing, characters only with 2002 era gameplay where you kill dozens and dozens of people each mission and have immersion breaking mini-games and bullet-time gunplay. GTA 4 had the same type of problem; the same old dated gameplay wrapped in new graphics.
There's so much potential for someone to make a realistic, immersive old West game where you meet and interact with more people than you kill, dropped all the bullcrap overused gameplay mechanics, and took into account the limits of 19th century weaponry.
damnreds @ May 6th 2009 6:17PM
id play a western RPG.
...and by that i mean a wild west RPG, not fable 2/fallout 3/oblivion...
Bravo6 @ May 6th 2009 6:28PM
I so wish they would make a Deadwood game.
Manly Mcbeefington (Mr. ESC) @ May 6th 2009 8:26PM
Looks cool but I don't understand something, without cell phones how is your cousin able to invite you to seee big american teee-tees?
Muhammad-Oli @ May 6th 2009 10:14PM
Easy! By telegram.
Robert Maynard @ May 6th 2009 10:11PM
Do want. I mean.. seriously, that is just nailing the atmosphere. Can't wait.
t_m @ May 7th 2009 4:59AM
the first one wasn't bad... but it wasn't amazing either. I definietly enjoyed it, particularly due to the total lack of Western games. But it was hardly a classic.
That trailer looks cool.
Chris @ May 7th 2009 12:20PM
I think this is one of the few games I'll have to plunk down a pre-order for. I loved the first one, so I can hardly wait!
Dirtgoblin @ May 7th 2009 12:49PM
this looks pretty awesome, the trailer alone seems better then 50% of the crap Hollywood pushes out.
Danjer @ May 7th 2009 3:57PM
I have been waiting for an open-world western to come out. There hasn't been a truly quality experience like that.
I want to be able to rob banks in multiple towns, ride into the desert, have showdowns at high noon, go to a saloon and shoot it up and just be able to do absolutely anything I wanted to in a western setting. Hopefully this game can deliver that!
caserb @ May 7th 2009 9:01PM
IGN's article has confirmed a few things -
- The game does use the Euphoria engine - with all people and animals, so a horse can drag a person behind them if the person gets caught in the stirrup, kinda like the car door thing in GTA 4.
- Hunting of animals that have their own a.i. and may even hunt each other
- guns that do replicate the 'real thing' and break down, etc.
- random N.P.C.'s will once again have side quests for you, sounds like more this time than in GTA 4 though, and with more interesting results.
- Three different huge regions (U.S. West region, Northern Territories, Mexico), Rockstar San Diego has said that this is the biggest game world they've created yet in terms of sheer size.
If you want to read their article, just go over there, I guess.
Personally, I'm psyched. I like GTA 4 and this game seems like it really is GTA 4 set in a western environment, difference being that this one seems to promote a lot of aimless wandering through virtual landscapes with you and your horse, as well as shootin' up towns and establishments to your heart's content.
