We're as tired as anyone of our seemingly never-ending tour of duty in the Great War, Part Deux. Still, given the unconventional road Red Orchestra has traveled we're just a teensy bit curious what developer Tripwire Interactive has tucked inside its pit helmet. The Georgia-based studio has officially made known Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad, the sequel to 2006's Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, itself based on the company's celebrated Unreal Tournament 2004 mod, Red Orchestra: Combined Arms. And, breathe.
Heroes of Stalingrad will again find players seeking shelter in gun-pits as bullets fly between German and Soviet forces, this time during the historic and bloody Battle of Stalingrad. Setting expectations, Tripwire promises "gritty, vicious combat" and "unrivaled accuracy and attention to detail." While there will of course be multiplayer, the dev also notes players will lace up in the boots of a German soldier as part of a solo campaign told from the Axis point-of-view, something Tripwire claims as a "first" for the FPS genre. No release date has been announced, though armchair soldiers can find out more in the pages of May's PC Gamer.

Isn't anyone else tired of fighting the same wars over and over again? I mean, I know there's only a select list to choose from. But maybe come up with your own original story with it's own original war something. Or, here's and idea, stop making these old war games!

I hate when game developers FORCE me to keep buying World War II games. If there were only some way to not play them!

This seems pretty interesting, if it's as accurate as they make it sound, it could be a neat tool for history teachers or something.

I think they should switch the genre up all together and go third person like Ghost recon style. We havent seen a good WW 2 game like that. I think that would be pretty cool especially platoon type missions...Saving Private Ryan type of Stuff.

Brothers in Arms was like Rainbow Six Vegas in that it was first person but with a third person cover system, but, that wasnt a real exciting or good game

Unrivaled accuracy? Cool! Does that mean, as a member of the Russian army, you get to fight the Nazi war machine with wooden sticks, or better yet, no weapons at all?
Sweet!

Wow, apparently you don't quite understand what Red Orchestra is. It's a very realistic WWII FPS. It's a unique series.
Six Days in Fallujah is Call of Duty in Iraq.

Can't comment on the game but I do like that "painting" they're using. It should be the cover art instead of some GOON running towards you with a rifle and a grimmace.

Shut your traps casual gamers, and go download Bejewelled or an Xbox or something. Red Orchestra is the only playable FPS with an actual decent ballistics model. It is the only remaining FPS of the Rainbow Six Rogue Spear / Ghost Recon era that derives gameplay from realism rather than just having be confined in what is deemed plausible. It is the antithesis of Call of Duty, and those who know it consider it to be the best FPS ever made.

Who is tired of WW2 games? Joystiq? You?
Considering the success of Call of Duty World at War, and the fact that DLC #1 just passed the two million buys (DLC #2 is coming), I don't see your point.
