And yet time and time again when I mentioned BLATANT bias and irrational hate for Sony by this website over the past 2+ years ESPECIALLLY in 2007...I get replies of everything under the sun about how crazy and missinformed I am.

Well Joystiq....looks like you ARE biased against Sony and you are STILL on your knees taking it in BOTH holes from MS and Nintendo.

Just pathetic

But always remember that Sony bashing will get you more hits on your website.... i wish that will change, maybe bashing toward the wii, because it's so casual. (im no fanboy :) it's just that there is way too much bashing toward ps3, the tides ***need*** to turn soon. the wii is booming now, but it will bust downwards soon...

Seriously, I agree with all of you on this one. A little ribbing here and there is one thing, but this wasn't even the usual attempt at sarcastic humor. It was just blatant whining over the fact that there's a timed exclusive on a Sony console. It's getting a little pathetic.

us doesn't have to worry

if you read it says in the article that this is EUROPE

"meaning that the game is now a PS3 and PS2 exclusive in the region"

I read the article and know that its exclusive to Europe. My issue is that with the PS3 getting a timed exclusive, in Europe, the author is concerned about the other consoles. My original post was to ask where was the concern when MS was/is getting all those other timed exclusives.

In most of those instances, the game isn't being developed for the PS3 until later and when it does come out you get instances like Bioshock where there are added areas or new content. In this instance, the game was developed at the same time, is ready for release, but won't be. It's pretty different. There's no reason to assume that they're going to pour more man hours into an already nearly completed game later on, so with no new content or improvements to look forward to, all those in the UK get out of it is... a wait.

It's not really the same. I'm not sure why people are acting like it is. You can say that they're both equal in regards to morality or whatever, but they're definitely not the same situations at all.

I believe it was Todd Howard form Bethesda who said recently that they were under contract to produce 3 DLC packs for the 360 and PC first. After the contract period all other DLC would be cross platform. Its still unclear, as they probably can't say, as to when or if the first exclusive DLC is coming to the PS3 but it was implied.

Atari's Phil Harrison might be doing his friends at Sony another favor, did you consider that? Look at that revised Alone in the Dark for the PS3 as an example.

I'm not sure what you mean. Didn't that game come out as a timed exclusive for the 360. I know the game was not reviewed well and they went back to improve it before they released it on the PS3.

I think Sony needs to protect their own interests. Also I think perhaps Atari was looking for some help in publishing this game and Sony stepped up to help.

Dracard

Not a good example considering Alone In The Dark was a timed 360 exclusive. So, should I say that Peter Moore did his buddies at MS a favor by releasing Command & Conquer Red Alert as a timed 360 exclusive? It works both ways and people change positions all the time in the industry. Harrison has Atari's best interest in mind not Sonys.

Alright, point made. Though it does suck when upgrades made for one console are not available for another, timed exclusivity be damned.

I'm devastated at this. I was so looking forward to this game. Well I'm not going to be bitter, will just have to wait longer.

Another one to add to the list of why I can't stand Sony.

Atari owns the publishing rights to the ghostbusters IP. Sony contracted them to do so. If Atari can't make that agreement it makes sense for Sony to step in and publish the title itself in effect making it a timed exclusive.

Nice news for PS3

To any X360 fanboys: Isn't it better that Sony decided to publish the title rather than the game never seeing the light of day?

Seems kinda strange to me. Not because it is a timed exclusive, but because it is a timed exclusive only in Europe. Oh well, I'll just have to un-pre-order the PC version and get PS3 instead...one of the benefits of having a gaming PC, PS3 and 360 :P. Guess this is just what Sony wants but it doesn't bother me (although the PS3 version is more expensive than the PC, and has no mouse control :( ).

Yes because that will teach Atari to release the game on your platform next time. Truthfully, it's probably going to mean you won't see the sequel at all. If you can't buy it don't pirate.

no my friend, that'll teach SONY not to be selfish. They own the rights to Ghostbusters and not releasing it in the EU is messed up

That logic doesn't make any sense. How is Sony being selfish by stepping up and publishing the title for a cash strapped Atari? Sony certainly isn't losing any money by your pirating the 360 version. All you are doing by pirating the game is making it more likely you won't ever see a sequel on your platform.

Also ...

Atari owns the publishing rights for this title because of a contractural agreement with the IP (Sony Pictures) holder. If Atari is choosing to have Sony publish the game because they are strapped for cash thats Sony being generous not greedy.

It's also worth noting that Sony has many different operating divisions that are essentially autonomous of each other. They haven't has very much corporate synergy in the past. Allegedly, this is going to change with the new restructuring plans by Howard Stringer. What I'm getting at here is that there isn't any one person that runs the whole show. So, it's highly unlikely that SCE had anything to do with the deal Sony Pictures signed to make the Ghostbusters game. If that were the case don't you think the game would have been a first party exclusive done internally? It was a thrird party multiplatform game from the jump.

The argument about Sony being selfish doesn't hold any water. They are actually being generous and essentially subsidizing your future 360 release by covering the publishign costs early on. Atari will have enough cash to publish the multiplatform releaes later in the year.

When you go to an x-box centric site you are going to get an x-box centric point of view. Don't let their agenda determine your opinion. It's fine to get the information there but formulate your own opinion based off what you know to be true.

Chris (Aggie)

It's the same exact thing. Sony owns/runs "Spiderman merchandising" which is an agreement between Marvel and Sony that gives Sony exclusive world wide publishing rights to the entire Spiderman Intellectual property as it relates to movies. You know those Activision Spider man games released recently? That's because Sony contracted Activision to make those games. Remember how the PS2 came bundled with Spiderman and there was a PS3 movie bundle with the Spiderman Blu-Ray?

http://news.softpedia.com/news/More-Spiderman-Games-From-Activision-13652.shtml
flowtv.org/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/tom_schatz.pdf (PDF download link)

I understand that Sony owns the Intellectual Property to Ghostbusters but it does make more sense for them to contract the IP rights to the games to another company. The point is to maximize exposure and it makes sense to have the game made by an external company instead of using in house development funds on a multiplatform release.
