It appears that High Voltage Software's unannounced non-FPS title has been revealed, and ... it's only wearing underpants. According to a recent press release, the Conduit developer, along with D3Publisher, will be bringing Imagi Studios' upcoming CGI-infused Astro Boy film to the Wii, PSP and PS2 -- but in the form of a video game. How very clever! We'll see how well this bold experiment pans out when the game drops this Fall, probably around the film's October 23 release date.
The title will also be developed for the DS by Art Co. Ltd., who also adapted Coraline for D3Publisher. That doesn't exactly fill us with confidence, but hey -- it's pretty tough to screw up "Finger Lasers, Arm Cannons, and Butt Machine Guns."

So does that techincally make it a licensed movie game? Cause, they've done so well going that route and similar ones before...

Western developed Astro Boy film meet western developed Astro Boy game...
As a diehard Astro Boy / Tezuka-san fangirl, I can see nothing good coming out of this. They completely killed it when they cast Nicholas Cage as Dr. Tenma.

are you fucking serious? do you even know how they started the conduit? the only way they could make that game was because they have been doing these little license projects forever and getting by on that until they raised enough money to do something like the conduit. they were self funded for almost the whole project. that is something that they SHOULD be respected for. they had a dream and a goal and they worked to get it. look at other devs that just get good games and then look at HVS who has made a name for themselves by doing this.
its like saying u have no respect for the kid who is working at wendys to pay his way through college so he can become a doctor.

Why do you think Grasshopper Manufacture made Samurai Champloo & Blood+: One Night Kiss?? Because they were games that fit their style of game? No, because they would sell good so they could afford to make smaller amounts of money from the games that they DID want to make.

yea its actually a really depressing job. i work full time and only make about enough to pay for 1 semester. still the idea is that you work as hard as you can even if u dont like it so that one day u will be able to do something you will enjoy one day.

Treasure is fairly good at doing licensed games. Those Bleach fighters on the DS are pretty good, too. And I don't even like Blech!

This is probably the first movie game for which the developers will have to commit Seppukku if they screw it up. Astroboy is Japan's Mickey Mouse. Granted there have been tons of terrible Mickey products but none with such an honor code :P

I'm confused as to why they don't take this opportunity to learn how to write code for the Xbox 360/PS3 (which they haven't done yet). I know the Wii is a viable market, but you know someone is going to have to do the HD versions of these games and that, per the previous article today, it doesn't really matter how good the game is. Seems like the perfect opportunity to mess around with HD development.
Though, if they do just stick to SD content, they have no excuse to not make a good game, again per today's article. They don't have to spend as much time on graphics (especially since it seems they've gotten plenty of Wii-tweaking experience from the Conduit), and can spend the rest on gameplay and story.
In other words, if you're only going for the lowest of low-hanging fruit (SD versions of movie-licensed games), it'd better turn out well.

Make a 2.5D version of Astro Boy: Omega Factor, that's the only was they couldn't screw up the game.

D3 just needs to give it up. Have they ever put out a good game? Ben 10? Nope. Dark Sector? Nope. Cabbage Patch Kids? Nope. Dragon Blade? Nope. Earth Defense Force 2017? Nope. I can keep going.....

They should just get the rights to re-release the GBA Astro Boy, because theirs isn't going to be remotely as good.
