Nintendo chooses to announce Pokemon Gold and Silver remakes

The DS remakes, called Pokémon Heart Gold and Pokémon Soul Silver, are scheduled for release in Japan this fall. Going by the time it took Diamond and Pearl to reach North America, we could possibly see these by spring 2010.

Oh my God... the best versions of Pokemon! (well, according to fans)
I'm going to be honest: as much as I like Nintendo, I was never into Pokemon when I was younger... I have always wanted to play the series (I only played Pokemon Snap, which is awesome) but I always thought that it was too late to start playing the games...
So, this is a perfect oportunity to start the series...
Foetoid @ May 7th 2009 11:51PM
I was a huge fan of Pokemon Silver + Pokemon Stadium 2. I'll buy the new Soul Silver version for sure.
solarshadows074 @ May 8th 2009 1:29AM
this is gonna be so awesome, but i think that they should remake pokemon crystal for wii
Frostybolts @ May 8th 2009 1:35PM
just go buy a used copy of one of the existing Pokemon DS games if you actually want to play them, and aren't just looking for an opportunity to spew the first thing that came to mind onto the internet
tmacairjordan87 @ May 7th 2009 11:30PM
Those udders must be really sore from all that milking.
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ May 7th 2009 11:36PM
yeah but this milk is sweet :)

This quotes from last week have been over NeoGAF, GoNintendo, VgChartz, Nintendo Everything and any other site with a heavy Nintendo fanbase: aparently, Nintendo delayed all the last year games (unanounced) and they will show all those games and new games to be released this year. They used the New Play Control games and remakes as fillers:
"As for our deployment during the latter half of this year, I would like to announce on the other day as it is not today's main topic. I
would like to address that Nintendo recognize that we have been short of new proposals during the former half of this year, so far.
From that viewpoint, we at Nintendo have to reflect on domestic Wii software deployment in the former half of this year. Like what had been to be released in the former half of this year was postponed to the latter, we were not able to reach the original goal - to regularly make new proposals." Iwata.
They are aware of that... we definitely need to wait until E3...
Also: Nintendo has released tons of games since 2006, both "hardcore" (I hate that term) and casual games: more than Sony. Problem is, Nintendo has to do it all alone, and Sony don't: they have good third party support, that's why you don't notice that Sony have released less games than Nintendo. Basically, Sony is just receiving all the 360 multiplatform games too...
tmacairjordan87 @ May 7th 2009 11:40PM
Wtf fernando? I was talking about them milking the hell out of pokemon, i don't know what you're referring to. These games aren't even 10 years old yet, and besides it's not like series has drastically changed since the originals. It's pretty much the same thing still. So forgive me if I don't get the excitement here.
Fernando Rocker @ May 7th 2009 11:42PM
Damn... fair enough. I haven't played any Pokemon game tho, so, I can't tell anything.
Now I feel bad for that post =(
Alilatias @ May 7th 2009 11:43PM
@FernandoRocker
Why did you have to suddenly drag the console war into this from out of nowhere? This was supposed to be our "General Pokemon fanbase happy time"! Unless it was meant for a completely different topic...
:(
Fernando Rocker @ May 7th 2009 11:45PM
Yeah, my bad...
My Nintendo Defense system mode was active, so sorry about the post.
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ May 7th 2009 11:48PM
'we at nintendo'
fernando is a nintendo employee CONFIRMED! :P
anyways, i'm fine with a remake of G/S. that was the best era of pokemon yet and having it all rendered in the current D/P engine is worth $210... silver got me into gaming. even though i don't support nintendo now, they made me the gamer i am today and i appreciate that.
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ May 7th 2009 11:49PM
yeah, never mind the thing about you at nintendo... i didn't see the 'iwata' after it. my bad...
Fernando Rocker @ May 7th 2009 11:52PM
Dont worry bro... I wish, but I don't work for them.

Man, i'm soooo excited ::D

My wife has nice big boobs and she said that when she was milking they felt really nice, I say:
"LET THE MILKING OF POKEMON CONTINUE!"
Shinkuu @ May 8th 2009 10:31AM
Do you play Pokemon? The series HAS drastically changed since the originals, largely in part due to Gold/Silver. While the basic premise of each game is the same (collect badges, beat Elite 4, explore post-game stuff), the actual mechanics of the games have seen significant improvements for the hardcore and casual Pokemon players.
Not counting the new Pokemon themselves, there's been the addition of Pokemon natures, a reworked stats system, new methods of evolution, Pokemon contests, 2 on 2 battles (seems trivial but really changes strategy), Pokemon abilities (huge!), Pokeball seals, Underground area, and the special/physical moves split (major gameplay change). But the Gold/Silver generation has probably the largest number of changes with the introduction of Pokemon genders, breeding, times of day and days of the week, the special stat attack/defense split, shiny Pokemon, and hold items (almost all MAJOR gameplay changes). Gold/Silver even allowed you to return to the region in the original games (though it was dumbed down a little... Still, no later Pokemon game has repeated this).
And what does the game not being 10 years old have to do with anything? Are you saying it's not possible to have a remake of a game until a full decade has passed? And actually, the Japanese version will be 10 years old later this year around the time the remake is due, and the North American version will be 10 years old next year. Ignoring that magic number, look at the systems the games have been on... Red/Blue were on the ORIGINAL Game Boy and moved to GBA. Gold/Silver were on Game Boy Color and are going to the DS. Are those not significant jumps?
I don't want to sound like a jerk, but please, don't make assumptions about things you know nothing about. If you are not excited about this bit of news, fine. That's your right. But just know that for Pokemon fans, this IS big news. I'm not saying Nintendo isn't milking the series, but that doesn't make this announcement any less significant. For some fans, these are considered the best games in the series, and this announcement has been a long time coming.

what they really need to do is bring back item pc storage.
Zerokku @ May 7th 2009 11:31PM
Good god. I bought this game 10 years ago and I'm going to end up buying it all over again. Thanks for the poke-crack nintendo.

If they make it up to Platinum quality, it'll be unrecognizable from the originals.
And seeing as I basically wrote the book on the 2nd gen, I'm qualified to say that.

Everyone remember: Friday is Lapras day. Unless they change it in these remakes.
This is an absolute first day purchase for me.

Not that anyone cares about Lapras......

But, Lapras is a solid Boltbeamer, thank you very much.

Master Marik @ May 7th 2009 11:35PM
So damn happy. I've said since FireRed/LeafGreen that these need to get remade. Nintendo should read my mind again and make a Pokemon MMO.
Nushio (NDF - Blue) @ May 7th 2009 11:52PM
Re: Pokemon MMO.
www.pokeglobal.org.
We're working on an MMO. Pokenet's gonna be released soonish. Hope to see ya there!
Snowblind @ May 8th 2009 6:27AM
Pokemon really isn't suited to being an MMO, there's just so many problems that would come from that. Having a specific area where you can go and meet up with trainers to talk, trade and battle is enough, and we already have that.
Replacing all trainers with actual players, etc, would be hell, as you come across players who have grinded up those EV's and use nothing but Mewtwos and Lugias and prey on trainers on route 1. Not to mention the slow pace of the turn based battles..
Shinkuu @ May 8th 2009 10:40AM
@Snowblind
YES. It's good to see someone else who realizes a Pokemon MMO would not be as awesome as people think.
SoCoolCurt (PSN: KillaKornbread - XBL: SoCoolCurt) @ May 8th 2009 1:03PM
well that really isn't much of a problem in MMO's like WoW. once you get to a certain level, you really have no need to go back to the lower level places. i still think a Pokemon MMO would be awesome. they could come up with a way to make sure that people leave an area when they reach a certain average level or something. maybe have the trainer himself have a leveling system for better matchups.
Susumu @ May 8th 2009 1:39PM
ya first day purchase.
MMO? I dun think so. Lets see them pull off a real-time action game. I've got it in my head; lets hope they get it in theirs.
Pand @ May 7th 2009 11:36PM
Yeah, totally grabbing these the second they come out.
The gold/silver generation was epic, I can't wait.
Dragod @ May 7th 2009 11:36PM
Awesome news! I recently lost Red, Blue, Gold, Silver, and even Diamond... I plan on rebuying all of them, but this is still very awesome, especially since I loved GS. Lugia was my favorite Pokemon for so long, and Celebi is awesome.
THE Ezio Auditore de Firenze (PSN slycooper_rocker) @ May 7th 2009 11:38PM
YES! i might actually buy a dsi when this comes out. silver was so awesome.
Fernando Rocker @ May 7th 2009 11:40PM
I hope they include some DSi Enhancement features.
Killjebus...PSN Killjebus @ May 8th 2009 9:26AM
Don't worry your pretty little mullet Fernandos....I am SURE Nintendo will incorporate some DSi features in the REMAKE remake or the remake of the remake of the remake.
