There is, however, one fatal flaw. Why on earth would Wolverine bash his way out of a cage? We know Wolvy's got some rage issues, but you'd think he'd have the presence of mind to use his claws to cut open the cage instead of ramming it. It would save time, time that could be spent dismembering people. Come on, Activision, details matter.
Wolverine commercial has glaring error

I dig what you're sayin... the ad is pretty slick though.
I wish more Wolverine stuff could be as brutal as the CG intro to the game.

I think he does use them, It just doesn't actually show it. You can hear a metal sound right before he hits the fence, then later when he's hitting the guys.

A bit late, and by now everybody knows but just incase for future reference,
At this point of the game he hasn't gotten the adamantium casing on his bones yet. In fact for a short part of the game he loses all his abilities, then gets them back.

Not one single shot of a claw anywhere? I just took a small break from playing the game and I believe there is slightly more blood in the game...like oil tankers full MORE! Game is actually quite fun and better than any movie tie in game I've played!

My guess this was a generic commercial made by a company then bought and repurposed for wolverine by adding a game box logo at the end.
The suits dont care about continuity.

Generic commercial rebranded? I don't think so.
a) The metaphorical "Uncaging"
b) He fights the same enemies he fights in the game.

@Tyrannous
I have no idea.... But IGN's wishlist for the Wolverine game (before it came out) mentioned it. I asked the same thing myself, they had a picture of Wolverine with a machine gun.
Also read on Wikipedia that Wolverine got his ass handed to him once by a bunch of normal human samurais. I've decided trying to figure out the comic world is to complex for the mere man, only one with no life like a fanboy can achieve this feat.

He was a samurai at one point, but he is a beast at heart, not a warrior.

An x-shaped cut through that cage, to start the action off, definitely would've been a better move... as it was, and throughout, I was starting to think it was a commercial for PROTOTYPE. Some slashes, even claw marks would've made me think "awesome commercial, totally enjoyed that game" but as it is, while I enjoyed the game, the commercial, to me, was just an "oh okay..." type of thing.

Right! I so though it was a commercial for Prototype when I saw it this morning. I didn't notice any game footage though. I guess they're banking on the buzz from the movie and the Wolverine brand being enough to juice people to get it.

Before you start talking about "errors," you should look at your own. I mean, good hell, your "Now Playing" article today was titled "Not Playing" for a little bit (maybe it still is). I mean, this blurb is fine, but it seems more an exception than the rule.
You guys seriously need a copy editor.

Get over it. Seriously.
I'm tired of reading comments about how they misspelled this or misspelled that, or left words out. Yadda, yadda, yadda. It's a blog news site. Get over yourselves. It obviously doesn't bother you enough to stop reading the site.
Free speech and all that... but good lord.

God i hope you are joking about the Not Playing thing. Because if you can't understand that slight play on words and its relevance to the current release of games....well, i pity you.

They want to make the viewer think its an animal, so they hide the claws til the end. As a viewer we're mystified by what could possibly be in this cage, and we're trying to figure out what kind of animal it is but, surprise surprise, its Wolverine. Im pretty sure thats what they're aiming for.
Posted: May 7th 2009 3:10AM (Unverified) said
absolutely! I think they are hiding the claws for effect.... they don't want you to know who the character is at first... builds suspense... I don't think I'd call it a "glaring flaw" though...

That's what I was thinking. The average viewer has no idea that this is a commercial for a Wolverine game at the outset. They want people to be intrigued by the footage, which as far as they knew was a commercial for a new tv show or something, then Tadaa! it's the Wolverine game!

The only glaring error is your face and the fact that your mom gave birth to you.
Posted: May 7th 2009 3:30AM (Unverified) said
The commercial is set sometime between Wolverine getting his adamantium ripped out by Magneto in Fatal Attractions and him getting it rebonded by Apocalypse. The lack of adamantium causes his healing factor and animal senses to mutate at a hyperaccelarated rate. Leading to his rabid animal like behavior, and his unwillingness to attempt to break a metal fence with bone claws.

Why is there an age check on a video for a commercial that is publicly broadcast on TV? There is no content here that any kid can't see by just sitting in front of the TV - if they are too dumb to simply lie online here.
Posted: May 7th 2009 3:42AM (Unverified) said
Um... Maybe it is just me but I assumed that the 'it' the commercial refers to is the game rather than Wolverine.
Posted: May 7th 2009 3:42AM (Unverified) said
also his "bone claws" you can see they are actually shiny grey in the beginning of the movie were he fights in the war montages
Posted: May 7th 2009 8:27AM IronArcher said
Actually his claws are more of a tan color or whatever. The only thing that never made sense even in the comics was his bone claws were all jagged, but when he gets adamantium his claws are smooth and sharp. Personally I think the whole bone claw origin is revisionism on the part of the writers. I always thought that having the claws installed was a cooler origin, plus the appearance of his claws since his appearance always gave the impression of being implanted.

It almost seems like they replaced his bone claws instead of covering them, especially with the little metal circle "tunnels" they put on the top of his hand so his claws could come out without ripping his skin every time. While that is an acceptable explanation, it then doesn't make sense why he still had them once Magneto ripped out the adamantium.
Or perhaps they were originally straight bones, only they got all knobbly because they kept breaking and regrowing, and they just smoothed them out and sanded them to a point during the Weapon procedure.

I love it when bloggers point something out as an error when, in reality, they just don't know enough about the source material to get it.

Just wondering why they bothered adding an adamantium skeleton to this guy... he seems basically indestructible... his bones and limbs grow back. Seems like kinda a waste of resources....

Well his mutant ability (healing factor) made him a prime candidate. And while he is a highly skilled fighter, ultimately he was rendered far more effective with adamantium due to it being "virtually indestructible" relative to bone.

uh wouldnt you put wolverine in a cage made of metal that his claws cant cut?
Posted: May 7th 2009 8:29AM IronArcher said
It probably was, which is why he decided to bash his way out. Then again his claws can cut through anything. If anything putting his hands in some sort of manacles for this commercial would have been way too hard. C'mon guys it's just a commercial.
