We realize it's a surprise, but apparently Terminal Reality believes that constantly changing publishers isn't all that great. The Ghostbusters game has traveled a very rocky publishing road, starting with Sierra, then sitting in limbo following the Activision / Vivendi merger, then moving to Atari and then moving to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe for the European market. Adding to the mess, SCEE will initially release the game only on PS3 and PS2 in Europe, leaving the 360, Wii and DS versions for later this year.
Speaking to GI.biz, Terminal Reality executive producer Brendon Goss said that the situation is not "ideal" as the developer prefers to create "a collaborative relationship" with publishers. He adds that all versions of the game are complete and he hopes that European release schedule won't cause confusion, which he said could harm sales of the game. In the face of the publishing decisions, which Goss said Terminal Reality had no say in, the team decided to focus on improving the game.
We'll find out if that work paid off when the game releases this June.

So much for the whole thing against paying for exclusive's eh Sony? Hypocrites.

It doesn't even make sense to say that. The game is already done and is a multiplatform release. The only possible reason for this publishing agreement is that Atari is struggling financially (shock) and can't afford a simultaneous world wide multiplatform release. GTA IV DLC & Fallout 3 DLC were the exact opposite.

To further the point ... Why doesn't MS & Nintendo step up and publish the game themselves in Europe like Sony?

Uh, yeah, I'm pretty sure Sony is paying for publishing exclusive rights considering that Terminal Reality had produced the game and was on the verge of releasing it multiplat. Somehow I doubt the project would have gotten to the doorstep of release without someone remembering to buy the rights from Sony.

Sony own ALL rights to the Ghostbusters IP - film, video, games, merchandise, everything. MS and Nintendo owners should count themselves lucky they are getting it at all.

Damn you Sony!
The situation looks like it would only hurt sales for the dev in the regions that Sony is delaying the non-Sony brand releases. If I were the developer I would try to shop around to try to avoid that kind of situation. Especially when you have a game that is looking quite fun.

Believe it or not, I try to stay impartial, but Sony just keep shitting on my cornflakes. It's almost like they are trying to take the title of "most unlikeable corporate douche-bags" off Microsoft.
However, I kinda knew that the Atari deal wouldn't stick. I think if they released anything of quality, the world would end.

The thing is you see, until now, Sony have had FUCK ALL to do with this game. They just ended up publishing it, and decided to hold onto the other FINISHED versions just to be c**ts.
If they Made the games themselves or financed it in any way, that would be fine. But no, they are just being TOTAL C**TS!

I'm pretty sure that Sony doesn't own the Ghostbusters IP outright (Ramis and Ackroyd seem to have a share in the IP still), and Sony Computer Entertainment is a massively separate branch of the corporation from Sony Pictures Entertainment (Technically, they're competing against each other), and unless a multiplataform is something the shape of several platypodes, I'm not sure what you're trying to say there.

I can't believe you'd bring up the thing about the FFXIII demo. If Square wanted to release it on PSN and Xbox Live, they easily could. Their only problem is that they can't make money from it that way, and they can't really sell it to the PS3 users but give it to the Xbox for free either. So yes, it wouldn't be a problem without the 360, but I can't believe you'd blame it for this.
As for the "delay" look at the time it's taken every other Final Fantasy game to be released in English, it's been a year/a year and a half at the least and this one has just been announced to be arriving early this year.
Doesn't sound like the 360 has caused any delays, and I can't believe some of you are still pretending the 360 version hasn't been planned all along.

Yes, FFXIII for 360 has been planned, but it hasn't been started. SquareEnix even stated the focus is on PS3 until the game sees release in Japan. The game is specifically built around PS3 and it's media formats and system strengths. And the Xbox 360 version hasn't even been touched. In a perfect world, the dev kits are as easy as going to File>Save As>Xbox 360. But this is not a perfect world and if SquareEnix can handle not only a port but a full translation in under six months, I will be shocked.

I think Sony saw that the game was pretty good and now they want to claim it as theirs.
It's not Atari's fault, or anyone's, really. SCEE is just taking their ball and going home and doing what they want with it, while the people that made the most effort get the shaft.
I hope the european fans try to import the game just so they can stick it to SCEE.

Please stop being retarded and posting this as a reply to every post. I know you have wood for Sony, but in the big-people world we have these things called "contracts" that you can use to sell things that you don't actually have in your hand, like the right to use IP.
Call this crazy, unfounded speculation, but I'm pretty sure that Dan Aykroyd and TR purchased the rights to make a Ghostbusters game before spending millions of dollars and several years doing it. Peruse the following:

I can't say I was particularly interested in this game to begin with, it looks like a stripped down version of Gears of War and I have little faith in it being any good.. I can see it being similar to Force Unleashed, where fans will enjoy the cut-scenes and story.. but not so much the gameplay. Though I do hope I'm wrong about it.
For me the big problem here is that Sony have snatched it away shortly before release, at least with MS and their exclusive DLC and whatever, we've always known about it *well* in advance of the games release. I still hate the whole attitude there, but at least I've known for months and months, not to bother with the PS3 vesion of GTAIV.
It's basically the equivalent of Microsoft coming out at next e3 and saying that they're PUBLISHING FFXIII and that Sony won't be getting it at all (or at least will have to suffer massive delays). I know the Sony fanboys are pretending this sort of behaviour is okay now, but all it takes is something like that to turn the tables again, and you guys would be goign just as crazy.

It’s exactly those tactics that Microsoft uses, albeit perhaps not by means of becoming publisher of the game.
For example, remember Rock Band? Released in the US, released 6 (SIX!) months later in Europe, but only on the XBox 360, and released another 6 (SIX!) months later on the PS3. Rock Band 2 was out in the US before the game even became available here on the PS3.

At least by becoming publisher Sony is doing this in a little more honest way, not by just smacking down a ton of money to take the game away from the other platform like Microsoft does, but by helping to put the game out there, and in return asking that their platform get the scoop, while even making some money in the process.

Can you say "non-sequitur"?
Oh, and three words: Final. Fantasy. Thirteen.
You know, the game MS have written a big cheque to stop Square releasing to Western PS3 owners until they've finished the 360 version. And the latter won't even be started until the former is finished.
And, again, given that Sony own all rights to the Ghostbusters IP, MS and Nintendo owners should count themselves lucky they are getting it at all.

This shows up as PSP news, yet no mention of the PSP version whatsoever.
Ah, Joystiq's new 'format': Abandon console-specific articles, homogenize all coverage (to cut down on that pesky 'work' stuff) and make those looking for single-platform news wade through pages of crap that have nothing to do with their system. Whee.

Haha you gotta love this.....its about time started making use of the other parts of their empire. If i was sony i would alter the 360 version of the game and fill it with ps3 adverts and get the characters to chuck in some funny 360 rrod jokes.

@ Jay
That's where you're wrong. Sony pretty much owned Square at one point. What they did was develop other games (Tatics, Crystal Chronicles, etc) in secret and published the games themselves. With the money they raked in from those games they bought back all their stock from Sony and now Sony has a measly 12% in Square, just enough to say they have they have relations with Square but nothing else. They'll barely see a dime from Xbox sales, if any.
Microsoft didn't pay them a dime, Square broke off relations from Sony and that is why you're all butthurt, cause your precious company doesn't love you like you think they did. And before you start bitching about questionable business practices, you might want to see about Sony, got companies shut down (Lik-San, one of many and the most famous case) and their associates to the RIAA & MIAA.

Sony Defense Force is on top of this article.
I won't defend Microsoft tactics by paying for DLC exclusively for GTA or the rights to Bioshock.
However, the end result is the same. The action that we see Sony doing is the result that Europe is the new battlefield for the 360 and PS3. It was a smart business move.
In the end, I think it comes down to what controller we all prefer. Which is why you see the Wii selling like crazy. Because people that didn't like the 360 or Dualshock 3 (sixaxis) controllers, never really played games. But as soon as a controller came out that made sense to them, they purchased.
All we are ever arguing over is which controller is better.
