What I find amazing is that on the Wii Link's Crossbow Training outsold the the Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess. Say what you will about TP, but that was a *good* game. I just hope that this "expanded" market doesn't have the unintended consequence causing other manufacturers and console makers to push truly innovative and involving fare to the side while we get buried in schlocky shovelware. Going forward, hopefully the casual can coexist with the hardcore, just like it does on my porn shelf.

Twilight Princes is over 5 million... read my comment below.

Games like Super Mario Strikers, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda, etc... are not on the list because this list is only for the games that sold over a million in this last fiscal year.

Twilight Princess is fantastic.

And if Link's Crossbow Training outsold it, it's because it came with the Zapper, which itself was pretty cheap. Crossbow Training is fun, but I don't think anyone is going to claim it's better than Twilight Princess.

Again, Crossbow Training didn't outsell Twilight Princess.

I have them both, comparing the two is silly of course. However, let me just say that Crossbow Training is darned fun. Surprisingly fun. If you don't have it, get it.

I suppose there is something to be said for getting my facts straight before clicking the "add comment" button. Mea culpa. The list did seem rather short. I still stand by my original premise, in spite of the, um, flat-out wrong nature of that portion of my argument.

Crossbow Training was also less then half the price during a time when there really weren't any other gun games. It's was an easy impulse buy and Zelda made it attractive to parents.

That and Twilight Princess had divided sales thanks to Wii and Gamecube versions.

Wrong...

This list is not the life-to-date numbers, because games like Phantom Hourglass, Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, and a lot more Wii and DS games would have been included.

This was taken from Nintendo's fiscal year million sellers list, meaning, only games that have sold over a million copies in the last fiscal year are shown.

Right. Only the games that sold at least a million copiesw worldwide within the last fiscal year are on that list. Games that are million sellers, but didn't sell over a million worldwide during the past fiscal year are not included.

"Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Western sales only -- Japanese version published by Level-5) (1.65 million)"

Yay! For some reason I thought this game had tanked. That explains why they're actually localizing the sequel (and hopefully all the rest of them). Every puzzle really DOES have an answer.

The sequels doesnt have a localization currently because they making new puzzles for the sequels:

Some of the puzzles in the Japanese ones were Japanese specific (they wouldn't make sense in another language/country), so the USA Layton game used the universal puzzles from all the three other Layton games, thus leaving Layton 2 & 3 lacking content.

Thanks for the info! I knew they'd had to make new puzzles for the U.S. audience, but I didn't know they'd cannibalized puzzles from games 2 and 3.

WiiPlay doesn't come with the system: you are thinking about WiiSports...

But also, WiiSports is not included in Japan, and still, it has sold more than a million in Japan.

Also, why shouldn't it be included? Both MS and Sony include bundles titles on their sales, like MGS4, GT5: Prologue, Uncharted, and tons of full priced bundled games (Nintendo hasn't bundled any game besides WiiSports, so, when sales start to slow down, they can play all the cards that Sony already played: price drops, new colors, bundles, free controllers, etc.)

When did this post turn into a Fernando's Q&A on Nintendo sales?

Anyway, the list seem pretty sold. Nintendo has done what it needs to make money and get everyone interested in games. Course it's up to third party publishers to decide which way they want to sale games to. To the casual market or the core market.

It would be really interesting if they could show the game sales with the age and/or sex of the buyer. Personal Trainer: Cooking, Nintendogs, Endless Ocean, Brain Age, etc. There are lots of games on there that would be pretty neat-o to see who's actually buying them and what demographic they have targeted.

The wii sports and wiiplay should not be on that list.
Wii sports comes with every system, and every system needs a second controller so most people just buy the wiiplay.

The list also suggests just what i have been saying, the wii is for little kids.
Take a look at those titles.
