Prince of Persia film footage shows up, Gyllenhaal still dreamy
It's been quite some time since we've heard anything from the folks behind the upcoming Prince of Persia movie adaptation. Lucky for us, the film's producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently decided to let some footage of the film slip during an interview (found after the break).
When asked what Jake Gyllenhaal brings to the film, Bruckheimer says, "Well, he's very handsome." That being said, consider this an early warning for you and your elderly mother -- shot after shot of those stunning pecs and that dastardly smile could result in some unfortunate medical complications. You've been warned!
Oh, and as for the movie itself ... we'll just have to wait and see if it's any good when it arrives on July 10th not-soon-enough.
[Thanks, Sean!]

I can't wait to see this and be pissed off that I spent $14 on another piss poor adaptation. At least Jake makes my panties wet.
MystileArmor @ May 10th 2009 6:19PM
.. I can safely assume I speak for most of us when I say, you just ruined the fantasy that I have that you always go commando.
Morisato @ May 10th 2009 6:55PM
Yes, but a new fantasy emerges from the ashes of old...
All panties all the time!

Moffka @ May 10th 2009 5:37PM
Why do I get the feeling the movie has absolutely nothing to do with the game?
Hyams @ May 10th 2009 5:46PM
Well, the writer and producer of the Sands of Time game co-wrote the movie, so I'm sure there's some similarities.
Having said that, he did also say, "Rather than do a straight beat-for-beat adaptation of the new videogame, we're taking some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story."
Moffka @ May 10th 2009 5:50PM
Good point. I just still morn the rape of Resident Evil, but then again I suppose you need good source material to make a good movie.
"What is it?"
"Blood."
Hyams @ May 10th 2009 6:07PM
I dunno - I'm not really too worried about it remaining faithful to the source material. It's not like the PoP games are really defined that much by their storylines. Heck, they even periodically scratch their own plotlines and characters, and completely reboot the franchise.
All I personally really want from this is a light-hearted swashbuckling adventure film, ala Pirates of the Caribbean.
Fauche @ May 10th 2009 7:44PM
In case you're wondering, it's going to be a, mostly, completely different story than the game. Just as the Prince from the newest Prince of Persia game is different from the original Prince from the Sands of Time, so too will Jake's Prince be different from both the last two Princes.
Phizzy @ May 10th 2009 8:12PM
The SoT prince was NOT the original prince. Damn Xbox kids...
Ridgecity @ May 10th 2009 11:37PM
why would you need that? you can bet there is going to be a new game with the movie story.
t_m @ May 11th 2009 5:21AM
huh? Sands of time (and even Warrior within) had great storylines...
BlackDove @ May 10th 2009 5:37PM
Been going downhill in quality ever since Don Simpson died, eh Bruckheimer?
Jon2309 @ May 10th 2009 5:41PM
It LOOKS like a game/movie adaptation. From the little footage already shown, it looks like the acting is going to be piss-poor.
yayoyayo @ May 10th 2009 5:41PM
donnie darko is angry at jake gyllenhaal
Cj @ May 10th 2009 5:43PM
So where does the "Sands of Time" come in?
The Baron @ May 10th 2009 6:14PM
About a week after the movie is released, we're going to rewind about two years and relive existence as if the film had never happened.
Hyams @ May 10th 2009 5:43PM
Am I the only one who's actually looking forward to this film?
ArchGamer @ May 10th 2009 5:47PM
No. I'm actually looking forward to this movie only because the creator of the series is actually helping to adapt a story for a movie so that alone makes me feel a little relieved.
Hey, at least it doesn't have the Rock in it.
arrrgh @ May 10th 2009 6:13PM
there, see? there are two of you
Ridgecity @ May 10th 2009 11:43PM
make it 3. Most movies that follow the original source suck or become too tedious, like the Harry Potter movies, and even then then cut some stuff to make it mainstream. I always end up after the movie feeling like throwing up for trying to remember so many names and characters.
As long as they can pull an original adventure and some great photography and movie making, I will enjoy it, rather than ANY video game movie ever.
I still can't believe why people still want filmmakers to stay with the concept which works on a 12 hour long game, but not in a 2 hour movie. Look at all those Uwe Boll movies, they look like made for gamers, and suck lime.
Ghen @ May 11th 2009 7:01AM
make that still 3... PoP is a platforming adventure game and they're turning it into one long fight scene. The only thing that remains is the name and lack of guns.
Joe @ May 10th 2009 5:44PM
Actually its not coming out till July 2010, not this year. Look at all the major movie websites including IMDB. They all say 2010.
jeff @ May 10th 2009 6:58PM
Your right. Hey Joystiq correction time.
July 10, 2010
bluezy @ May 10th 2009 7:44PM
According to Wikipedia, the July 10, '09 release was planned back in early 2007. So yeah, a few years late on that one. It's actually comin' May 28, 2010.
jeff @ May 10th 2009 5:44PM
I had no idea it came out so soon. They dont even have a trailer yet!
Moffka @ May 10th 2009 5:50PM

Gyllenhaal kind of looks the part, except for that whole 'persian' thing.
Roto13 @ May 10th 2009 6:24PM
There was an actual Persia prince up for the part, but he didn't get it. :P

The Baron @ May 11th 2009 11:25AM
I work with two Iranians
Roto13 @ May 10th 2009 6:23PM
I get that directly adapting Sands of Time into a movie would be incredibly dull, but could they at least do something that resembles the game in some way besides being set, I'm assuming, in Persia? I haven't even seen any evidence that the Sands of Time are actually in the movie and I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they weren't. >_>
This might be a perfectly good summer popcorn movie, but I find it annoying that they're just slapping the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time name on it when that's not what it is.
DrFreeman @ May 10th 2009 7:51PM
Hah, it's not even in Persia (or Iran as it's now known) but Morocco! This looks nothing like Prince of Persia but rather a follow up to something along the lines of Kingdom of Heaven. I know it's only a clip but how often was the Prince in a 100-strong crowd of fighters, who aren't even mutated?! PoP was fast, intense and full of action. That video just made me think the movie is full of drama, with portions of fighting chucked in as a bid to attract teens. Talk about a teaser, meh.
Roto13 @ May 10th 2009 7:55PM
They said it was shot in Morocco, but that doesn't mean it's set in Morocco. :P
Hi Nate! @ Jun 16th 2009 12:59PM
actually a copy of the script leaked on the net and the sands are mentioned in it.
christopherdarragh @ May 10th 2009 10:04PM
looks like it may as well being called Jake Gyllenhaal pretends to be Persian but is really American in a video game movie that has nothing to do with the game apart from the title. well at least he is handsome
Snowblind @ May 11th 2009 7:40AM
What do you people think Persians look like exactly? He looks fine, and a lot like the Prince from the games, so I don't understand this delusional problem a lot of you are creating.
Cheatah @ May 10th 2009 6:30PM
They forgot to mention the source of this video. www.seanbajuice.com sheesh joystiq!
Cheatah @ May 10th 2009 6:32PM
Nevermind, im blind.
carmaction @ May 10th 2009 6:47PM
His hair isn't greasy enough to be considered Persian.
Made-up stereotypes are my favorite.
Zack11190 @ May 10th 2009 7:27PM
Did anyone else notice that they gave a name to the Prince when Gyllenhaal was speaking near the end? I couldn't tell what it was, but it began with a D.
