Update: We here at Joystiq are not perfect, and sometimes we're fooled. Sad to say, this has been one of those times, as some of the details you see around the net regarding Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver are false. Our good friend Serebii pointed this out to us, and we have removed the false information from this post. We apologize for the error, and are baking you a fresh batch of cookies right now to make up for it.
When Nintendo announced Pokémon Gold Heart and Soul Silver remakes, it was only a few days after that we caught a glimpse of some gameplay. Of course, the gameplay video didn't reveal anything on the game other than the ability to walk around, but we know trainers are still getting pumped for the remakes. Well, if you live in North America, prepare to be pumped out of your mind.
Nintendo is planning to bring both Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver your way, as some US trademarks Nintendo filed (courtesy of Siliconera) show. Sure, you probably had little doubt in your mind, considering how much Nintendo loves money, but we just thought you would like to know. Both Pokemon Heart Gold and Pokemon Soul Silver are listed, so turn your cap backwards and get ready to catch 'em all ... at an unconfirmed later date.

Means details.
I hope we get running shoes instead of skateboards in G/S.

I assume the Sept 11 release date is for Japan?
Anyway, I'm very excited for these... What is Nintendo going to do when it can't make remakes anymore? I think remaking the GBA games would be a bit too much... Well, at least we can finally play through Gold and Silver again; it's really annoying to open your menu to surf/cut/bike/etc, which is why I hate going back to the older games.
Also, first sentence is "Gold Heart" instead of "Heart Gold"

In Gold and Silver, you didn't need to go into the menu for any of those things...

9/11?
Nintendo promotes terrorism confirmed?
I hope they retcon the rival for these games, though. The whole "he's a crook who stole his first pokemon and mistreats them" thing seemed a bit too heavy-handed, especially since you got enough of that from Team Rocket
Gary was the ideal rival. He was an asshole, but not a criminal

I'm sick and tired of friendly friend rivals in Pokemon games, though. Like Silver or not, when you beat him, it felt fuckin' cool, all like 'yeeeeeeah'
When you beat Barry or May, it's totally like 'meh'
know what I'm saying?
Yeah, it was a bit heavy handed, but it was also pretty cool how you just hand Silver his ass over and over again until he realizes that using his Pokemon like tools ain't gonna get him anywhere.

The rest of the world I'm afraid, doesn't think that doing ANYTHING AT ALL on 9/11 is terrorism.

Well, I agree with you about May being a "meh" rival, but Barry is awesome and second to Gary as my favorite rival.
I mean, check out Platinum...the Barry Dance is Amazing.
(plus, speaking of Team Rocket, ??? is supposedly Giovanni's son so...he obviously learned the whole "stealing pokemon > catching pokemon" from Team Rocket)

Silver was actually my favourite rival of the entire series. You felt really driven to defeat him not simply because he was your rival, but the moral antithesis to your character. Plus, he looked sweet.
This game is going to break my promise to never buy any more Pokemon games. Sigh.

I question the significance of Platinum. Just 4 months it comes out in Japan, and 5 months later and we'll have just another Pokemon game. Another Pokemon game where you'll have to start from the beginning, to catch them all. Again.

They are fun, I'm just getting tired of the formula, which hasn't changed since the first Pokemon. I didn't like Platinum that much, being it's Diamond/Pearl with a different story. I worked hard to make my Pokemon dream team, but after making several attempts at catching 'em all, I've given up.
Platinum came out in Japan 2008 yes, but I was referring to the US version from March.

Whats the problem with platinum being the same as d/p? All Pokemon generations had 2 games, and then a third one that just had some added graphics and enhancements. Just look at r/s and then emerald or g/s and then Crystal.....
I can't wait to start catching them all! Again... =)

Good to see that the starter continues to follow you.. But I'm disappointed that you still need to attend these movie events to unlock certain content, especially when a lot of countries don't even bother with the events.
What's wrong with just doing them over wi-fi like the Rotom key?
No special coloured Pichu = no Celebi.

Usually, it's only the movie events for Japan. In America, just about everything's done through events and Toys 'R' Us.
Again, why they don't just do it over wi-fi, I don't know.

Pretty sure this is 100% confirmed as a DS game (meaning, not DSi exclusive). Don't expect to see DSi exclusive retail games for a long, long while.

Anyone else remember before G/S/C, at least Crystal, came out and the screenshots had the character on a skateboard? I know it was a hell of a long time ago but for some reason that popped right into the front of my head. Too bad the site isn't there anymore.

From what I understand, the original translations (including stuff about the skateboard and whatnot) were false. I think the only details revealed were things about cutscenes revealing new areas (like in FireRed/LeafGreen), support roles from the trainer you didn't pick, and something about a Pikachu colored Pichu event.

I really hate pokemon events. There's like, one Toys r Us about 30-40 minutes away depending on traffic, and I shouldn't have to go to these events in order for them to unlock stuff on the cart. That was my biggest gripe with D/P/Pt... If I pay for the game, why can't I catch all the legendaries for that generation without special keys?

FYI, you don't need to go to toys R us for the secret key in platinum...its available via WiFi mystery gift, which is most likely how the rest of the event items will be distributed.

It was great to have more areas, but the Sevii areas were just horribly designed. They should have simply included Jotho, which would have been around the same size and twice as interesting to explore.
I'm assuming with this they'll simply expand Kanto, as it was massively cut down because of the Gameboy limitations.

Mr. David, now the only thing shown in the gameplay footage wasn't just walking....it was also shown that starters follow you around. That, too, is gameplay.

If I'm on a skate board how will my ferocious Feraligatr keep up?
And my guess: camera can take screenshots in the game and you can transfer those screenshots from the in game album to your photo app on the DSi.
DSi enhanced game?

I loved pokemon gold & silver, they were the best imo.
i hope the remakes offer the ability to go back to Kanto, and i hope that includes the sevii islands.
I don't like the whole skateboard thing, a traditional bike is fine for me.
I also hope the starters follow you around for the entire game :D.
& i think silver was the best rival, as he was actually "evil" you were satisfied when you beat him, cos it meant you've done right.
can't wait for the American release :D

Actually, try 12 years. Gold and Silver were set to come out in 1997, but development pushed them back to 1999. The feature was proposed, but never made the cut. Besides the skateboard, Johto had a much different layout than the final version (such as the Lake of Rage having a town).
Wow, I am such a Pokémon fanboy. >.
