It's been quite a while since Far Cry 2 was released on Xbox 360/PlayStation 3/PC -- 203 days, to be precise, but who's counting? -- and just yesterday Ubisoft released a patch aimed at a game-breaking save problem. And we'd know all about it, as after 25 hours spent terrorizing the African wilderness, we were halted in our tracks by the save file corrupting-bug patched just yesterday.
Our bitterness is somewhat assuaged by the arrival of the promised "Hardcore" multiplayer mode, advertised on the developer's forums back in February. The team has also added the ability to play Rank matches, employing some of the more ... well-developed user maps created over the past half year. Unfortunately, while the (likely malaria infested) save bug has been squashed, the fix isn't retroactive and thus, those who encountered it are out of luck. As for you folks playing FC2 on a PC or PlayStation 3, the patch should be headed your way soon. Not 203 days ago-soon, but soon none the less.

Though I entirely disagree about the graphics, this game was an epic letdown.
Bought it used, returned it the next day.
Gameplay was stale, controls were far from polished, AI/Spawns were awful.
Overall the game could have easily been much better than it was.
As for multiplayer? Garbage.
Play any well rated FPS on the 360 and then play this.
Far Cry 2's flaws are evident.
I mean it took 200 days to fix a game breaking bug.

Far Cry was a shooter for patient people. Most sandbox shooting games revolve around a fully city rather than the plains and jungles of africa. You get a true sense of the country in both its political decline and natural beauty. I'd rather just stare out across an open field watching the grass blow in the wind along with the leaves in the trees, a few zebras walking around just grazing, big bright beautiful blue sky.
To you it may have been a pain in the ass to get places, but getting there was half the fun of this game.
Stale controls? really I'd honestly like you to define what you mean, it seems like you just picked a negative adjective at random and bitched about controls that were fine.
Enemies really weren't all that powerful. You just had to use your assault rifle much closer than you can use your sniper. So many different combos of weapons made it so you never had to have the same encounter twice in a row. Those who say its repetitive allowed it to be repetitive.
I don't really know what else to say. The graphics, audio, and gameplay all top notch.
If you really hated this game then you were doing it wrong.

I was somewhat disappointed with the graphics the first few days I was playing it, but after that I realized how much they were doing in the environment, and how everything meshed together to create really stunning scenery. I was again and again mesmerized by the beauty of the game, even though a tree stump up close would look simple and low-res-textured.

.... they... they actually patched it?? They fixed the bug?! SERIOUSLY?! Holy crap! It's like Christmas and free Ben & Jerry day rolled into one glorious day.
Maybe now I can see the end of this frigging game. Holy hell, I've been waiting for this patch for months. I can't believe it's really here. I... I might cry.
I promised i wouldn't but I'm known for breaking promises anyway. Oh god. I ... I have to go now.

perhaps you are confused with the word "anywhere"...and a save point every 50ft is an extreme exaggeration.

There was a save station pretty much two minutes distance from wherever you are unless you just finished a mission thats way off in one of the corners of the map. It really wasn't that big of a problem, plus a save anywhere option really ruins some games. I'll just go into a fight, save then when I'm down to no ammo and a shitty pistol for my sidearm instead of having to dash to a safe house to save and resupply or sneak by another guard post you could just save in the middle of a fight so when things go wrong you can reset.

The patch is already live for PS3 as well -- loaded up Far Cry 2 last night and it prompted me to update to v1.04.
Fortunately, I never experienced the '88%' bug or any corrupted saves, so I probably won't notice most of the bug squashing that was fixed in this patch; however, i'm lovin the multiplayer improvements - particularly the ability to play user-created maps in ranked matches!

I just wish the world of far cry was riddled with more wildlife! I understand the constant gunfire would scare off most creatures. But I dunno, you see more wild animals in friggin Blood Diamond!

The game was beautiful, and has some fun gameplay elements. But the repetition and endless jaunts across the maps made it seem more like work than play.

Anticrawl said: "I won't even justify this outrageous claim with a response." Then why did you waste time responding then? The game was a complete joke in my opinion, something I am entitled of, and chenry I was playing the original XBOX and XBOX 360 long before you, or anyone else here, trust me on that. Like I said, I had high hopes for the game, but in the end, it was a letdown. Don't take it personally, you didn't fiance the game.

Too little too late. It's a shame Far Cry 2 was such a disappointment. I agree with the comments regarding the graphics, while they weren't MIND-BLOWING OMGWTFBBHQ, they also weren't horrible. Although the animations were shitty and the character models were reused from Far Cry: Predator almost to the last polygon. I guess open-world shooters will just have to be Crytek's genre of specialty for the time being.

I bought FC2 on Steam and really enjoyed it, but every 45 minutes or so the game would crash without warning. Ubisoft's tech support was abysmal and Steam said it wasn't their fault.
Fortunately, Steam's Customer Support let me return the game and I purchased a copy of Team Fortress 2 for my roommate instead.

This article should be corrected. For many of us, the bugs have not been squashed whatsoever. ALL my FC2 saves are frozen. All are well in the 90% range. I deleted all but the most recent save (there wasn't any point keeping old frozen saves). Not starting over a game of this length.
This is a fix for a NEW game only, or a game that was unfrozen to begin with....so fuck you Ubisoft. They should offer a refund.
