Logitech releases another gorgeous (fake) guitar
We're not positive, but we think we're over high-end fake guitars. Check out this Logitech Wireless Guitar Controller for PS3 and PS2 that's going to arrive in the U.S. this month. That's lovely. The company kept the metal tuning pegs and rosewood fingerboard from the last model with "a few minor construction updates." No complaints here, not even with the $199.99 price tag, which is pricey, but not outrageous.
No, even with a gorgeous guitar like this we find ourselves curiously ... unmoved. It's puzzling, but it could be because our den already looks like the rehearsal space for a dwarf version of the Polyphonic Spree. It's hard to say.

$200 for a video game guitar controller is outrageous no matter what it's made out of. I await the inevitable Verdu and Ed Hardy releases.
Shadsy @ May 12th 2009 9:58PM
Steel Battalion beckons.
Moris @ May 12th 2009 11:27PM
I LOVED Steel Battalion, Still have mine and the online "expansion" that came out a bit after :)
NoughtSoClever @ May 13th 2009 2:40PM
At least with Steel Bat the buttons to dollars ratio was higher.
Slayer @ May 12th 2009 9:21PM
Damn that's a high price.
BUGz @ May 12th 2009 9:22PM
i'll stick to my controller skills thank you very much..
Sleeping Lesson @ May 12th 2009 9:24PM
Given the downward-trend of guitar rhythm games, I'd say this is going to turn out poorly for Logitech.
MrSpaceCowboy @ May 12th 2009 9:24PM
It's the controller equivalent of a high class hooker.
Sure it's great, works well and is more desirable, but there's no way you'd shell out that much money. There are much cheaper options which do the same thing, which also hold up quite well to strenuous play.
playwhutyalike @ May 12th 2009 10:26PM
What do cheap hookers and cheap guitar controllers have in common?
You can break their necks, throw em in the garbage and no one cares.
Michael T @ May 12th 2009 11:08PM
I think I'm going to Hell for laughing at that, Playwhutyalike.
Saria the Cat @ May 12th 2009 11:15PM
Cause you're so beautiful...
Like a tree. Or a high class prostitute.
You're so beautiful.
You could be a part time model.
But you'd probably still have to keep your normal job.
Yourself @ May 13th 2009 12:04AM
yeah def. a classic reference. I just wish there could be a third season =/
In A World (XBL) @ May 12th 2009 9:25PM
Wow! For that kinda money it should work on every console and have upgradable firmware.
Blaze463 @ May 12th 2009 9:30PM
Dear Joystiq,
You are so biased, It's not even funny.
Markez @ May 12th 2009 9:50PM
?
CynicalStrike @ May 12th 2009 9:54PM
I'll second that "?".
Are you one of those who claim Edge magazine is biased too? I've never had a straight answer as to what they're biased against... Shit games perchance? Seems Joystiq are being similarly biased against a crappy, waste-of-money peripheral, for shame!
Saria the Cat @ May 12th 2009 11:13PM
Dear Blaze463,
We regretfully wish to inform you that Joystiq articles are NOT, in fact, written by dry robots without personal opinions. We've looked into this and can confirm that the majority of the writers are human, which would explain the occasional leakage of personality and emotion into the writing. We apologize for this inconvenience, and hope you will continue to patronize our reasonably-priced goods and services.
pibs @ May 13th 2009 1:03AM
Blaze463,
Hey if its free, good, and entertaining there is no reason to complain.
If you don't like it Get The Fuck Out...... your opinion sucks anyway.
Blaze463 @ May 13th 2009 6:43AM
Joystiq is always so RockBand > GuitarHero. They praised the hell out of the new Beatle's RB guitars that are coming out, but when a guitar comes out with GH buttons, they bitch about how there are too many fake instruments. It could even just be the different opinions of the two authors, but going by this site's past articles on RockBand and GuitarHero, I think not.
Slaziman @ May 13th 2009 7:30AM
They use the same buttons retard
unless you actually use the gimmicky solo buttons and slide bar, nobody cares about those anyway
Nook @ May 12th 2009 9:27PM
shit, for that money go buy a real guitar from a pawn shop or get a squire.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall for the imminent board room conversations where it is discussed why sales aren't so hot.
as if.
Michael @ May 13th 2009 10:25AM
You couldnt get a good guutar for that kind of money
TomeOne @ May 12th 2009 9:31PM
Talk about cashing in on idiots who love to play fake instrument colour matching games!
venompsx @ May 12th 2009 9:35PM
That's a crazy amount of money!
jetenginejesus @ May 12th 2009 9:36PM
wooooooowwww, that is one sweet guitar...
considering the beatles rock band guitars are going to be $100, $200 for this baby isn't TOO outrageous...
Pika132 @ May 12th 2009 10:41PM
That makes little to no sense. Wouldn't you just get the less expensive guitar that also looks like a famous guitarist's axe, rather than pay an extra $100 for a boring ol' regular guitar controller?
ScottG13 @ May 12th 2009 9:41PM
If I ran Rock Band at a bar for cash, I'd have this. Otherwise, I'm fine with my already ridiculous set of RB gear. (Includes Fender Bass and Ion Drums.)
Reader @ May 12th 2009 9:41PM
If the guitar is going to be that expensive, why have the buttons colored? I can only assume that anyone willing to spend 200 bucks on a plastic guitar has a good idea which buttons is whatever color.
EricC @ May 12th 2009 10:00PM
I don't even know why any of the buttons are colored at all. The notes fall in the same position as the buttons on-screen. You'd have to be a moron of epic proportions to actually need the colors.
Reader @ May 13th 2009 3:20AM
Eh the colors always helped me when stuff started going quickly. I never played long enough to do all that well on Hard though.
Eh @ May 12th 2009 9:44PM
That price is laughable. So are they being charged a percentage for licenses on these damn controllers? Or is Logitech just insane?
You can get a decent acoustic or name brand electric guitar for that much, the construction of this looks even cheaper than the electric $60 pieces of shit from walmart.
TimeDoctor @ May 12th 2009 9:48PM
"No, even with a gorgeous guitar like this we find ourselves curiously ... unmoved. It's puzzling, but it could be because our den already looks like the rehearsal space for a dwarf version of the Polyphonic Spree. It's hard to say."
This is the only flavor text I've ever read on joystiq which has made me genuinely laugh out loud.
Justin McElroy @ May 13th 2009 8:26AM
Well, aren't you sweeter than shoo-fly pie in August?
BlaqueBeird @ May 12th 2009 10:02PM
You can get an El Degas replica Les Paul for $50 less new. I'll stick with my real stuff over toys at this price.
Yourself @ May 12th 2009 10:07PM
I truly don't understand this product. I just can't get into the mindset of someone who would want to buy it, or the marketers that came up with the idea. It's not even about the price; it's the borderline insane idea that someone would want a video game controller that looks like a slightly nicer cheap imitation of an instrument over a cheap imitation of an instrument. Like, are you supposed to show it off to your buddies? "Check out this sweet... Rock Band controller.... Doesn't it make me look cool?"
Michelobius @ May 12th 2009 10:52PM
Let's back up a minute and look at performance. I'm not sure the $200 price tag is just for its looks. I would wager a good amount (though certainly not $200) that this is a high quality, high performance model which is not shit like many of the guitars that have been released with the games.
Higher end players care so that they never have to blame a missed note, whammy, or squeeze on their instrument.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 13th 2009 1:04AM
"Higher end players care so that they never have to blame a missed note, whammy, or squeeze on their instrument."
heh heh HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!
Oh you're being serious.

"Higher end players care so that they never have to blame a missed note, whammy, or squeeze on their instrument."
...That's what he said?
Tegolin @ May 12th 2009 10:13PM
That looks odd.
Whats with the fake pickup, and the frets near the top?
....Why?

Toop @ May 12th 2009 10:41PM
It would be sweet if they did the buttons like the Rock Band controllers (full width, not coloured on the face) with all 10 and included the touch strip. If this guitar pulled out all of the stops they might have been able to pick up people who don't have the games yet since you would get all of the features. Plus it would look even more awesome without the current buttons. That might be worth it.
I don't think I can allow myself to buy any more peripherals though.
Travis @ May 12th 2009 11:12PM
I think I'm going to go with the Beatles guitars instead, thank you very much.
ryanpaulmcgowan @ May 12th 2009 11:06PM
That is the ugliest guitar peripheral I have ever seen. The pickup looks terrible and out of place, the rosewood fretboard has been raped by the colored buttons and the terrible 'rosewood' colored stickers they used as well as the terrrrrrrrrrrrrrible looking slidebar. There's also the eyesore that is the twelth fret. There's also the fact that the frets start at the twelth fret.
The color choice is tacky with a finish that looks more like a black plastic than a wood that is painted black and the white outline of the black pickguard throws the entire thing off balance.
The thing isn't even shaped like a real guitar. The big fat back that doesn't slant near the end makes it look fake and unneededly bulky.
The headstock is ugly as well. The shape and the terribly ugly logo. Egh.
Nothing is good about this at all.
Michael T @ May 12th 2009 11:13PM
"No complaints here, not even with the $199.99 price tag, which is pricey, but not outrageous."
No. Sorry, McElroy, but you are incorrect. If ONE peripheral costs more than the game plus a full set of all the other peripherals, then it's outrageous..
hvianna @ May 12th 2009 11:13PM
too bad the fret buttons ruin it
Saria the Cat @ May 12th 2009 11:13PM
But...does it make toast?
sonicspike41 @ May 13th 2009 9:08AM
It makes Jesus Toast.
Rumor has it they are working on a God Toast-making version, but that it will cost $599.
pumkin54 @ May 13th 2009 12:12AM
For that price, you could buy a real guitar.
