Modern Warfare 2 intel captured in latest Game Informer
As per this month's Modern Warfare 2 cover story in Game Informer, details of the piece have surfaced over at GiantBomb. A smattering of new revelations are covered, including the flat-out refusal of co-op play in story mode (said to break the narrative experience). Additionally, Captain "Soap" MacTavish returns, bringing with him distinctly more open-ended gameplay, and a significantly fleshed out "special forces" mode (one that will mimic and expand upon the final "Mile High Club" airplane battle in CoD4).
If you want more, you're just going to have to snag a copy of this month's GI. We'll be honest with you, though -- at this point, we expect greatness from the veteran development team at Infinity Ward. Luckily, from the looks of things, the game's release on November 10 will bring ever-widening smiles to the faces of existing fans and reignite our already burnin' love for the series.
[Thanks, Sage]

I'm getting so sick of cod games.
SteveUK @ May 12th 2009 9:29AM
Such a shame this isn't a COD game.
Geist @ May 12th 2009 9:30AM
Does it have enemy boxes that spawn badguys until you cross a magic line? Does it have AI that doesn't do a damn thing until you run forward? Is the enemy AI going to be utter crap? Then it'll be a Call of Duty game.
xFenixKnightx @ May 12th 2009 9:31AM
Who cares, I'm not! :)
MOAR MW2 NEWS!!!!!!
DarkMan8 @ May 12th 2009 9:36AM
Technically not a cod game it dropped the cod part and if your getting sick of the series ignore the posts about the games themselves and your problem is solved. While the fans of the game enjoy any new info we can get.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 12th 2009 9:41AM
But technically it's still a CoD game since it's a sequal to CoD: Modern Warfare. Therefore making it a CoD game.
Temidien @ May 12th 2009 9:49AM
No one's making you play it, dude. If you don't like the series, just ignore it.
The day you see CoD plastered on cereal boxes and billboards every twenty feet is the day you have a legitimate excuse to be "sick" of something you don't come into contact with.
LegendaryRedass @ May 12th 2009 9:58AM
Alright Infinity Ward, no more CoD games because Jerk is sick of them. I'm so tired of people that whine about something they don't want to play anyway. It's simple don't play it, shut your yap, and move on.
ChewyDogg @ May 12th 2009 10:35AM
It's no longer CoD. It's the new shit, Modern Warfare. Be sick of that instead. :/
The Dark Wayne @ May 12th 2009 10:42AM
"dont buy it blah blah blah" the problem isn't that we're being forced to buy it, it's that we dont want to buy it. That might sound stupid but let me explain. I used to love CoD, i bought and beat everyone, even 3, I had a kd ratio of 2.74 after several thousand kills in 4, and I have 1000/1000 on 5. But with each game, it's more of the same, and I'm getting sick of it. The flat out refusal to include co op is just bullshit, I want to buy and like this game, but they aren't making it easy with shit like this. And you know, we are being forced to buy it, because since it's so popular, every other FPS tries to be like it, even the shitty parts.
ChewyDogg @ May 12th 2009 10:47AM
That made no sense, Dark Wayne. Stop contradicting yourself. And no, you are NOT being forced to buy it.
rooshma @ May 12th 2009 11:02AM
@Geist
From the article in question:
"The developer is addressing the infinite spawn issue. 'We are aware of it and we're actively trying to eliminate it [...] I think we agree that it's not good.'"
Guess it's not one then huh?
Jerkamie @ May 12th 2009 9:24PM
I won't be buying this one, its the same crap again and again run around shoot people people shoot you different maps a few different guns, end up getting sick of them all.
Then they come out with a map pack that annoys you into buying it, and if you do it's instantly skipped.
BUGz @ May 12th 2009 10:45PM
The Dark Wayne Finally down voted...even tho His Paragraph Made sense
Geist @ May 12th 2009 9:29AM
No coop? No purchase.
RiccochetJ @ May 12th 2009 9:43AM
Same here. Unfortunately it looks like I'll be renting because of this fact.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 12th 2009 9:48AM
So even if it has a great campaign and a great online portion you still won't buy it because of no co-op?
That's just lame.
DisturbedSpartan666 @ May 12th 2009 9:49AM
The original MW didn't have Coop and still was a great game. I wanted coop as well but it's not a deal breaker. Given the fact you still get a online muitiplayer which most likely have lots of improvements and new features that build off the first game's success should help tho.
Puffles @ May 12th 2009 9:58AM
The new Special Forces mode will have co-op.
Temidien @ May 12th 2009 9:57AM
Thank Jeebus co-op isn't necessary for a game to be worth purchasing, otherwise the following franchises would've failed at conception:
The Mario Bros. Franchise
The Legend of Zelda
Halo
Pac-man
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (had to put that in there XD)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Grand Theft Auto
Metal Gear Solid
Madden NFL
Tetris
Megaman
Final Fantasy
Metroid
Star Fox
Pokemon
Frogger
Tomb Raider
You're telling me you're not satisfied having purchased a game from any of these franchises?
Vidikron @ May 12th 2009 10:05AM
@Temidien
Why are Halo and Madden listed? Halo 1-3 all had co-op and Madden has had co-op many times (not sure if it currently does).
Jtenma @ May 12th 2009 10:05AM
@Temidien
Now I don't like to argue...but you couldn't be more wrong with the games you just listed.
I COULD and SHOULD tear apart your post little by little...
But I'm sure someone else will do it for me.
RiccochetJ @ May 12th 2009 10:07AM
A lot of you guys keep on mentioning multiplayer. I don't care for multiplayer. Therefore it will most likely be a 8 - 10 hr single player campaign for me which means I will be renting.
Temidien @ May 12th 2009 11:36AM
@Vidikron
Read my post, I said the game franchises didn't have co-op at [conception], not that they haven't since added it. And you're right about Halo, that was my mistake (forgot the first had co-op, I personally never played it).
@Jtenma
We're talking about co-op, not cop-outs. If you wanna tear my post a new ass, go for it.
Mr Khan @ May 12th 2009 11:49AM
There seems to be a great preoccupation with co-op these days, one which i've never understood.
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 12th 2009 12:11PM
@Mr. Khan
Exactly. I don't really understand how co-op can be a deal breaker for some people. It's ridiculous.
TheLionOfAzzalle @ May 12th 2009 12:30PM
Sorry but no co-op = no buy from me either...
That's just plain retarded.
I'm not saying I've never played LoZ b4 but that's a whole nother series and a whole different genre of gaming. Co-op isn't a requirement/expectation so not having it isn't worth a penny.
But this is CoD we're talking about. To not have co-op in this game is just ridiculous.
This just went into the rental pile...
Vidikron @ May 12th 2009 12:47PM
@Temidien
"Read my post, I said the game franchises didn't have co-op at [conception], not that they haven't since added it. And you're right about Halo, that was my mistake (forgot the first had co-op, I personally never played it)."
Yes, I noticed you said that, but then you ended with:
"You're telling me you're not satisfied having purchased a game from any of these franchises?"
That made is sound like you were referring to the entire series of games from any of the franchises.
Jtenma @ May 12th 2009 12:52PM
Thank you Liion.
InFaMoUs1- @ May 12th 2009 12:57PM
Co-op is for pussies who need their friends to hold their hand while playing a game!
j/k but seriously sftu about co-op, it's getting fucking stupid, with every announcement of a game there is always one or two dumb kids who have to say "no co-op means no buy"". Seriously just go shoot yourself then if Co-Op is the only reason you buy a game in the first place.
/end rant
It just had to be said if I read one more comment saying "no co-op means no buy".
*sigh*
Jason Statham (Aka Vegeta) @ May 12th 2009 12:58PM
@Lion
Your explaination for why CoD should have co-op doesn't really explain anything. And no just saying, BECAUSE IT'S COD, isn't a good answer.
Vidikron @ May 12th 2009 1:30PM
"Seriously just go shoot yourself then if Co-Op is the only reason you buy a game in the first place."
Isn't that why most people bought L4D?
Geist @ May 12th 2009 11:01PM
In all those games listed, the only FPS was Halo, and that did have co-op. And I didn't like the game anyway. Anyway, co-op is a must for an FPS for me generally because I'm not a fan of online play, and single player experiences are generally inadequate. COD4's SP was pretty good, but I would've preferred it with another.
JXCgunrunna @ May 13th 2009 4:54PM
MW2 will have co-op
carterk88 @ May 12th 2009 9:36AM
I really want to see this game actually deserve the title of Modern Warfare 2 and not just be Call of Duty 4.5
InFaMoUs1- @ May 12th 2009 9:41AM
but that's what it basically is CoD 4.5
WRE @ May 12th 2009 10:47AM
Every sequel is just Fill-in-the-blanks-.5. I dare you to name a sequel that isn't.
InFaMoUs1- @ May 12th 2009 11:16AM
but does this game introduce anything new to the series? CoD:WAW at the most had new game modes and features that added to the game.
amart @ May 12th 2009 11:27AM
guess you'll just have to wait and see. Calling it cod 4.5 before you know anything about it... is just pointless.
amart @ May 12th 2009 11:28AM
(directed at infamous)
uncle jesse @ May 12th 2009 12:00PM
@WRE:
a sequel that isn't a '.5'? Die Hard 4.0
it clearly says 4.0, not 4.5 :P
gpdrummr @ May 13th 2009 1:29PM
@WRE far cry 2.
Rodrigo (revenge of the ps3) @ May 12th 2009 10:57AM
i loved the 1st one and ill be picking this up on day one... it better be good and it better have better graphics than killzone 2
xFenixKnightx @ May 12th 2009 12:19PM
Framerate, controls, music, gun soundeffects will all be better than KZ2. But it won't look prettier unfortunately. I can't wait to see what IW will do with a new engine on next gen consoles. :)
Brian @ May 12th 2009 9:47AM
I am holding out for COD 1812. You know, the one where you arrive in a valley, line up with 1000 players online.
The play goes something like this,
Hit the reload button, wait 15-25 seconds (for reload), take a single shot, move forward, repeat,....
...and hope you don't get plastered along the way.
LOL!
Cloaker @ May 12th 2009 9:54AM
Laugh if you would, but I would play that. Use cover, throw in a bayonet option for close quarters, have cannons that you can strategically place, character build armies for either fast (harder to hit but a bit less health) strong (more melee damage but aim not as good), or tough (take extra damage but move a bit slower) and some smoke grenades and yeah, I would play the hell out of that.
Just saying.
veesofnaught @ May 12th 2009 10:13AM
...and have Iron Maiden playing "Trooper" in the background. I'd play it. :)
prodigy69 @ May 12th 2009 10:26AM
I'm waiting for COD: Braveheart so I can bare my arse at the English
WRE @ May 12th 2009 10:49AM
I live in Southern California, so we just go down to Wee Britain whenever we have a hankerin' to bare our asses at some British.
Neuromancer @ May 12th 2009 10:59AM
I'd buy it
